Part 29
The sun had not risen as the sky darkened over with small patches of blue trying to peep though. The heavy clouds hung low, covering the tops of building. Animals ran to take cover as a streak of light hit the ground. Crashing thunder followed that rattled the nearby children. Rain pelted down, against the roof and window panels. There was another burst of lightening, quickly followed by a low rumble, indicating the storm was near.
Jeevika, Viren, Maanvi and Virat were at their cousinshomewhile the storm had started. They wanted to wait it out but the rain bucketed down and ground with extreme force. Maanvi and Virat tried to call Lana to check in Laksh.
"I don't you we shouldn't have left him," Virat insistent as he never wanted to leave Laksh in Alex's care.
"He will be fine, the storm has knocked the phone lines. I just spoke to Lana ten minutes ago. She said Laksh is asleep in his bed." Ignoring her, he continued to dial.
As the rain started to subside, the foursome decided it was time to leave before the weather worsened once again. Both couples brought their respected cars. Maanvi and Virat scurried under her umbrella, while Viren tried to bring the car closer for Jeevika.
"You ok?" Viren questioned a soaked Jeevika as she tried heating herself up.
"Of course," she giggled at her husband worries. He seemed to like to make up scenarios in his head that would complicate matters, especially after their little scare last week. She picked up the iPod and changed his terrible taste in music to something more pleasing.
"I told you the weather was going to get worse. We should have stayed at home."
"Virat please, just focus on the road. We will be home soon." She turned the volume of the radio up, hoping Virat would get the hint. All of a sudden Virat slammed on the brakes. Maanvi jolted forward in surprise.
"Is that?" Virat and Maanvi rushed out of the car. The rain was still pelting down and has not eased up since they had left. They rushed up the car, which was turned on its side. Maanvi tried to open the door but it was locked. Virat moved her out of the way and asked her to call theambulance. He scanned the car to see if there was anyone elsebeforehe smashed the window. Clearing the glass away from the edges,heplaces his hand inside to unlock the door.
"I can't get through!" she shouted as the rain drowned out her voice,
"Keep trying, I can't get him out." After some struggle, he managed to swing the door forward. Alex was collapsed against the steering wheel, he pushed the latch for his belt, but there was no use.
"What's wrong?" Drenched Maanvi looked up as Virat tried to pull the seatbelt.
"It's jammed. I can't get it off him. Did you get through?" She nodded her head, "It's getting worse out here. Plus we are not in the safest place. Go back to the car and wait there!" He pushed Maanvi back and continued to try to free Alex. Glass covered the floor of the car, when Virat noticed the open glove box and saw a Stanley Knife. He slide it up and cut the seat belt. The ambulance was still on its way and with the raging storm; it was taking longer than usual. Grabbing him from under his shoulders, Virat managed to pull Alex out. Laid him into the wet ground, blood trickled from his forehead. As Maanvi looked out, she could just see them beside the car. Suddenly, she heard a roar from behind, turning hoping to see the ambulance. A car whizzed down smashing into the front of Alex's car before zooming off again without a second look. It flipped and fell down the side of the road. She flung the car door open, as she was unable to see Virat, who was inches away from the car before the crash. She rushed to where the car was, where she found Virat over Alex's body. Shaking the water off and lifted, himself up he checkedAlex's pulse as they looked down the road; he saw the neon blue lights flickering towards them.
Virat accompanied Alex while Maanvi told to go home. He passed her the keys and told her to drive carefully before kissing her on the cheek.He watched as she dashed back to the car and keeps an eye on it as she headed down in the opposite direction.
She returned home and as soon as she entered, Lana had already called for a taxi to take her to the hospital. Jeevika and Viren arrived shortly after as they had stopped several times. They where surprised to find Maanvi soaked. She explained what happened and Viren rushed Lana in, as the taxi would take another half an hour.
Maanvi changed out of her damp clothes and found Jeevika in Laksh's room.
"Hey," Jeevika wrapped her free arm around Maanvi. She passed Laksh over who had awoken but content. She gave him a light kiss as he wiggled about. Jeevika and Maanvi lay down as Maanvi placed Laksh on top of her and patted him to sleep. With one hand, he soothed her son and with the other, she reached out to Jeevika. She peered over and rubbed her hand lightly.

Viren caught Jeevika in Maanvi's room. He tried to sneak a peak of his wife as he tries to figure out what she was doing. Quietly, he crept behind her and grabbed her from behind. He placed his hands around her stomach and pulled her close as her initial shock wore off.
"What are you doing?" He snuggled into her shoulder and looked down onto the bed.She patted him off,
"Just looking at some of Laksh's old clothes," she pulled one up, "Can you believe he once fitted into this? I'm sure he would only get his leg in this now." She folded them back up and packed them back to where Maanvi had stored them. As Jeevika put them away Viren pulled the box back out.
Whispering in her ear, "We might need some of these,"
He looked at the pile of clothes. Pulling out each one, one by one and placed it around her.
"Well maybe not this one." He looked at the football top with disgust. He always hated when Virat made Laksh wear it but he knew it was to wind him up. "No child of mine is going to be a Spurs supporter."He laughed and put it back into the box.
"How long has Alex been seeing Lana then?" Virat cleared out the empty milk bottles ready to sterilise.
"Umm about... Over a year. They started dating before I was pregnant, why?" She pulled out the Laksh's clothes from the dryer and began to fold them terribly.
He brushed it aside and thought about all those things relating to Maanvi and Alex and all that he had imagined. Over the last week and the accident, he started to realise that everything he has thought he had created himself. He wondered if he had taken, a different approach then would things have turned out differently. If he would have listened to Alex's views not sidelined them or ignored them. Then maybe he could have salvaged his relationship and he wouldn't be in this limbo.
