Jenny , how do you do this? Time and time again. I really just got swept into your story. And historically, you're more or less correct- the Movement started with the Khilafat movement in 1920, and started gaining momentum slowly. And Bengal did have several epidemics of cholera, and one was in the early 1920s. Also the characterization- a rich, educated, but feudal Anglophile whose son is also educated, but actually sees the injustices and is patriotic- that was very true of those times. And the way you described Khushi's hands- a girl who wears the symbols of a married woman, yet clutches a doll for solace. Beautiful. Bas now you have to update fast OK?

Sorry I took my time reading this, but I wouldn't have missed it for the world.
It was beyond amazing. You brought the whole pre-independence bengal right before our eyes. When i read TIH, I thought you had to be rajasthani, then i read ALS and thought you had to have anglo-indian connections. Now you seem like you must be bengali. how else could someone write so naturally about the culture, the settings and language everything!

And I am already loving this story. The child marriage, sad as it is, is such an essential part of Bengal in that age. and You are portraying Arnav so well as the rich kid unhappy with his circumstances.

With your writing skills this story has so much potential. Can't wait to see the interactions between Khushi and Arnav.

BTW, even the reference to the medical book couldn't be something simple. for a moment there, i wondered if you are a doctor yourself!

And the Doll. ... I love the doll. that is like adding your personal touch to the story!
