WEEK 3 Honeymoon ;) DAY 1
AthensKhushi, Arnav and Payal, Akash walked out of the airport at Athens. The weather was pleasant, a cool breeze swirking around them. They were recieved by a limousine and they were to be taken to a chalet near the nearby port city of Piraeus overlooking the sea. They chose to stay away from the capital as there were some political hindrance in the city.
The ladies were tired, so Akash suggested they take rest in the chalet while he and Arnav would overlook arrangements for their tour.
Near Piraeus -The chalet was located near to Piraeus and over looked the sea, and was huge. There were two large bedrooms on the first floor. The wall facing the sea was made entirely of glass, leading into a balcony. The chalet was bordered with orange trees. The ground floor had a kitchen and a large living room with a fire place. The plush white sofas were arranged in such a way that the person sitting on them would be facing the TV kept right above the fireplace. A red carpet covered the pale brown wooden floor. The bedrooms were luxurious and beautiful, yet simple and elegant in their own way. Infront of white, netted beds was a black couch. The floor was covered with a sky blue carpet and a french window leading to the balcony. There was one walk-in closet and and a bathroom in each bedroom. To say Payal and Khushi loved, it would be an understatement. They changed and simply plopped down on the bed. Arnav watched satisfied, that Khushi atleast fell asleep even if it was during daytime.
Arnav and Akash strolled down to the nearby Grecia Travel Agency. Akash and Arnav walked down to the travel agency in silence. Akash was looking at the waves and kept quiet. Arnav was tired of his behaviour. "Akash, what is going on?"
Akash looked at Arnav. "No, nothing is. What makes you think something is "going on" Bhai?" Akash said. Arnav pursed his lips and looked ahead. After walking for a few moments he said "You don't lie very well Akash." "You don't hide your feelings very well either Bhai" Akash said, Akash said kicking a pebble. Arnav looked at Akash, bit surprised. "What do you mean?" "You love Khushiji." Akash said as-a-matter-of-factly. Arnav and Akash walked in a few moments of silence, as Arnav tried to think what to say. He was puzzled. That is what he wanted everyone to think... But hadn't he made it clear by marrying her?"Of course I do! I married her." He said finally.
"Have you ever thought of showing it to her?" Akash said, still not looking at Arnav. Arnav got angry now. Just because he broke that radio, did NOT mean Akash could come to conclusions like this. Well, yes. He had never told her but they DID look happy on the outside and why was such a small fight giving Akash such big doubts? "Look here Akash, just because that radio-" Akash stopped as they reached the Travel Agency and held up his hand. "Please Bhai. Stop lying to me AND yourself. You and I know, BOTH know what I am talking about!" With that he walked in through the blue tinted glass doors of Grecian Travel
Anjali gave a fake smile to Shyam Jha, as he inquired about her health and said how much he missed her. Her hand was itching to slap him to death. She was glad that Khushiji and Arnav were away... She was thankful to God that Chhote had married Khushiji. She was proud of her little brother, as she remembered the day Khushiji had assured her that her marriage with Chhote was out of love and because Chhote wanted to protect Khushiji.
"When will they be back from honeymoon Rani Saheba..."
Anjali was disgusted, but decided to have some fun.
"I am not sure Shyamji... Chhote wanted to extend the trip. Apparently they are enjoying themselves..."
She watched a muscle twitch near his temple and resisted laughing and continued. "Maybe our child will get a cousin to play with... That would be nice, hai na Shyamji?" she giggled.
Shyam's face turned purple with rage and he gave a nod to Anjali and excused himself on the pretext of getting 'fresh'.
She smirked at his retreating back... She had gotten over the phase of pain, disbelief, hurt and anger long back... All that remained now was triumph, spite and hate within her for that snake of a husband
Half an Hour Later-
Khushi was sitting infront of the glass wall and staring at the waves, with her head on Payal's shoulder who was sitting right next to her. "Jiji, Jijaji loves you na?" Khushi asked softly.
Payal let out laugh. "Of course Khushi! He loves me more that anyone in the world. I can feel it HERE!" she said, with her hand resting on her heart. Khushi looked at her sister with secret envy and smiled sadly, nodding.
With her head still on Payals shoulder, she gulped and asked "Jiji, what would you do if Jijaji left you?"
She felt her sister stiffen and relax in a moment. "He won't" Payal said confidently. Khushi looked at her sister and moved to sit in front of her, holding her hands she asked again in a pleading tone. "IF Jiji? What would you do IF he does?"
Payal looked down. "Jiji?"
Her sister looked up and smiled sadly. "I would die Khushi."
Khushi paled and her shoulders slumped. "Don't ever say that..." Payal hugged Khushi and Khushi relaxed. She had missed the comforting warmth of her elder sister's care and concern.
In fact, it had been days since she had recieved any love. She remembered how as a child she would hide behind her sister when Buaji was scolding her or find refuge with- No! Khushi don't think of him. They heard someone clearing their throat and turned around to see Akash smiling at the two and Arnav staring intently at Khushi. "Well ladies, we've got our honeymoon plans. There is nothing much in Piraeus except the port. We will have a guided tour of Athens tomorrw. The day after, we can roam about Athens on our own. The next day we get to Piraeus to board a ship." When Payal and Khushi exchanged an apprehensive look at the word 'ship', Arnav explained "Apparently, Grecian Islands are better when approached by ships. I hope neither of you have sea sickness?" Both shrugged. "We'll find out. We have never been on a ship. Me and Khushi always wanted to board a ship. But Khushi changed her mind after-" Payal started with a smile.
"Jijiii!" Khushi wailed, elbowing Payal hard.
"Ow! Khushi, it is okay! He is your husband, not some outsider!" Payal said amidst giggled
"What, not after what?" Arnav asked curiously, looking at the sisters.
Khushi looked away sheepishly as Payal said "Not after Khushi saw Titanic. She did not want to board the plane either after watching Die Hard 2 or was it 3?" laughing as Khushi stuck out her tongue at her.
"Oh, does not going to Goa also have some silly reason like this?" Arnav asked sceptically, bit amused. Both their laughters instantly died down. Khushi had paled and Payal was looking at Khushi worriedly. "No, Arnavji. Wo actually..."
"Actually it is nothing. Jijaji, continue with the plan" Khushi interrupted, making Arnav frown and Payal confused. Akash exchanged a 'You better tell me later' look at Payal and continued "We will be visiting four out of the thousands of islands."
"What about today?" Khushi asked, suddenly over enthusiastic about the trip.
" Today we relax, tomorrow we see Athens and visit Cape Sounion to see Poseidon's Temple." Arnav replied.
Akash continued. " Then We come back here to this chalet and then go to the port next morning. That will leave us with twelve days for the cruise. Four islands, so three days on each island. The liner will be docked to the nearest port."
It was evening. Akash and Payal left for a walk down the beach. Khushi stood in the large balcony and stared at the silhouettes of her Jiji and Jijaji, walking hand in hand on the beach. Her eyes filled up.
*Flashback*
Eight year old Khushi peeped through the window of the chalet they were living in by the beach at Goa. She saw her Mamma and Papa walking on the beach, hand in hand and next to them, were her Garima Mausi and Shashi Chachu, walking hand in hand as well. She blinked, smiling stupidly. "Kuku, what are you smiling at?" Khushi turned to look at her brother. "Ashu Bhaiyya, when I grow up, I will marry some handsome and nice prince. We will walk everywhere just like that..." she said pointing at the silhouettes of her mother and Papa walking down the beach.
"Me too Bhaiyya!" said Payal, looking up from the Cinderella book she was reading.
Ashu laughed. "Before that, you both have to show your husband to me," he said. "Why?" Payal asked puzzled.
"Why should YOU see OUR husbands! you won't marry him na?" Khushi asked. "So that I can see whether he is good for you or not" he said. "Hmph! All princes are nice and handsome!" Payal said kiddishly while Khushi nodded vigorously in agreement."Well, if so he better be careful because if he hurts you I will punch his face and make him ugly!" With that he pounced on Khushi and started tickling her. She began to laugh and Payal, the quieter of the two, shook her head at them. "I love you Bhaiyya!" Khushi said, hugging him suddenly. "Me too Kuku. I will always be there for you"
*end*
"Liar!" she said loudly. It was more than ten years back...She remembered it vividly though. It was their last happy memory together... Bhaiyya, Jiji, Mamma, Papa along with Amma and Babuji had gone on vacation to Goa, the place where she had suffered loss for the first time. She clamped her hand over her mouth to control a sob. She felt a hand on her shoulder and turned to look at Arnav.
Arnav started to search for Khushi and saw her in the balcony, bathed in evening rays. Her hair billowing against the breeze. She was staring at something on the beach. He went closer and heard her say "Liar!" brokenly. He couldn't resist when he saw her hand move to cover her face and saw her shoulders shaking. He put a hand on her shoulder and when she turned around, he saw in her eyes what he had been missing for a month. That vulnerability...That innocence was back. She did not flinch, she did not move. She just stood there, staring at his face. "Tum theek ho? What happened?" he asked. Her eyes flew open. How long had it been since she heard it? Her eyes filled with tears.
"Mamma and Papa used to walk just like that everywhere!
Suddenly she turned to him.
"Why are you doing this to me?" she asked helplessly. "What?" he asked, confused.
"Why do you keep making spill tears and then come back and wipe them?" she asked .
Arnav came back to his senses and snapped out of the daze. "Because when I make you cry, I am in my full senses and when I wipe them, I am being naive fool!" he bit out harshly. He saw her eyes hardening again and her mask was back. "Sorry I asked Mr Raizada." With that she walked back inside and sat on the bed in their room staring at the water.
When Akash and Payal came back, they had their dinner and went to bed early. After all, they had a lot to do the next day...!
Khushi, as usual, lay awake and stared at the black crashing waves she could see by lying down on the couch in their room.
Arnav stared at her sleeping form, thinking of what Khushi had said about her 'mamma' and 'papa' and not Amma and Babuji, he noticed. He also realised that Goa held some memories for Khushi...
Well, so yeah. I am a Greek Freak! I have been to Greece for just three days so though the names of places I mentioned DO exist, a lot of it is a pigment of my imagination. The places they visit will be what I have visited myself, though for a day only and even I visited by ship. So yeahh... Oh and I was in Piraeus for like two hours or something, so I am not really sure if there are chalets on top of beaches and all? And the politics part is true. Me and my family got stuck in a riot in Athens ;P I am gonna write it next update. You'll like it ;) (I hope) Did I mention I am obssessed with Greece and ita history?
