Like/Dislike/Neutral Week 6
CHAPTER 2
And.. Akki aka Devils aka You-Know-Who! Here is it. 🤢 Kill me now 🥱
London eye seemed a neutral affair for him. He had been there twice a times. About her experience he could only guess with horror and unease clouding her expressive eyes, wasn't as good as he anticipated.
London's eye is the one of the most prominent element of London's skyline. A Ferris wheel that takes its occupants to height of 135m, giving them exquisite view of London city's famous landmarks, many in one glance, as much as up to 40 km radius on clear sky day. She kept remembering as much of facts as she knew about the horror ride she was taking. She had mild batophobia- fear of heights. Mild enough to let her tour mountain terrains but not, as she figured out quite recently- 10th minutes ago to be precise, to let her relax when she is hanging in mid air with Mayank sharma and one more couple, in a cabin huge enough to occupy 20 more people. The total weight of the wheel and capsules is 2,100 tonnes - or as much as 1,272 London black cabs. She wondered if it ever had broken down. Each rotation takes about 30 minutes, meaning a capsule travels at a stately 26cm per second, or 0.9km (0.6 miles) per hour - twice as fast as a tortoise sprinting; allowing passengers to step on and off without the wheel having to stop. She glanced at him and caught him looking intently at her, this time it didn't made her blush alike older times, whenever he starred at her. The 32 capsules on the London Eye are representative of the 32 London boroughs, and each one weighs as much as 1,052,631 pound coins. Despite there only being 32 capsules, for superstitious reasons they are numbered 1 ' 33. For good luck number 13 is left out. She wondered if her birth date- 13, December had anything to do with this fact. Maybe she should tell him beforehand, in case she faints or worse throws up.
"Nupur are you alright?"
She stared for a moment and shook her head. "My head is spinning". He stared at her. "I feel dizzy and..", gulping the last knot of hesitation she said "I have phobia of being on heights"
It took him 2 seconds to widen his eyes and say "oh!"
"I feel sick."
"Oh."
"I am sorry" she said looking at her hands embarrassed.
"Oh." He thought she must thinking of him as an insensitive jerk who couldn't speak any other word." No! No! No needs to be sorry"
He looked around as if searching for something. Maybe an emergency exit to throw her out. She thought.
"Okay. Just relax. No need to panic. We'll do something." He said more to himself then to her. "Just. Just don't look outside, close your eyes and lay your head back."
She cursed herself. Maybe she shouldn't have ruined his mood. She wanted to tell him she was ok and he needn't worry, but couldn't. The circumference of the wheel is 424m (1.392ft) - meaning that if it were unravelled, it would be 1.75 times longer than the UK's tallest building - One Canada Square in Canary Wharf.
He smacked his head virtually. He could have asked her first, if she wanted to come here at all. But he wanted to make her trip memorable, like she would now ever forget how he put her through this misery. He chided himself. He must do something to put her at ease, or maybe divert her mind from feeling sick. He had an idea, but wasn't sure if it should be executed or not.
Nupur did as he said, laying her head on headrest, she took deep breaths, trying to calm down. If she could control this in earlier times, then she could do that now too. The London Eye can carry 800 people.. She felt something. Not the bubbling in her stomach, but a feathery touch. She froze. It was soft, warm, hesitant yet daring. His fingers sent a jolt through the body, right from the spot where his finger-tips rested on back of her hand to very end of her toes.
His hand moved, cautiously covering her small one with his relatively huge. He squeezed her hand, letting her know he was there, with her, by her side. The movement of her eyes didn't go unnoticed by him, even under her eyelids. Her eyes squeezed rhythmically with increasing movement of his hand. Her trembling eyelids spoke of her dilemma whether to open her eyes or not. He hoped she wouldn't or he may not be able to continue. His hand moved further to turn her hand in her lap, palm facing upwards, this time grazing his fingers on her palm in random patterns. She seemed a bit relaxed now, maybe she fell asleep, for the lines on her forehead had vanished and face no longer held any expression, that gave away her easiness or discomfort. He traced the lines of the natural criss-cross of her hand, darker ones first then moving on to lighter ones. Soon after he ran out of lines to trace, he started etching alphabets, because he still didn't felt like letting go of her hand, now that he had been able to hold it for once.
"N" she said in her head. "U" she was liking this new sensation of playing the old game of 'read-the-touch' with him. "P" She guessed the following already. "U". "R" she felt victorious in that little moment, before he started etching some more. "M". "A". "Y" she knew it again. "A". "N". "K". Again, she won. He went on "S". "H". "A". "R". "M". "A". "Nupur Mayank sharma" She couldn't help but smile on his little tryst.
He thought she had slept, but then she had this beautiful smile on her face and her eyes opened the other instant. He noticed her face had the same tint of colour he knew when she was scared of him, but this time she didn't look horrified or even offended. It was confusing, but he was happy that he was successful in diverting her mind off her fears. Dude, She even smiled at you. He smiled back at her, feeling a flutter in his body. Butterflies? Yuck! That was a girl thing. Oh maybe he was hungry, yes he must be hungry. But he didn't feel hungry. Ok, this was not good. Confusion in head is not good for a man with a working chunk of brains.
"Are you feeling any better now?" he remembered, it was least naturally human thing he could ask.
"Yes." She said looking down, remembering how he went out of his way to do 'non-Mayank- sharma' things to make her feel 'better'. Only she knew what all that made her feel.
"We almost reached back down. There isn't much height after this point." He stated in matter-of-factly way. He hadn't pre-planned or thought upon such situations, or worked out the reactions that he must give in these situations. What to do when you just doodled a world on your wife's hand and don't know what to say the next moment.
"Honey, that is such a cute couple!" A woman in her early forties exclaimed looking and them, all the while nudging a man next to her in ribs. "Have you ever taken care of me with so must sincerity when I am down? All you do is ask me to stop whining and leave you in peace!" She pouted, complaining.
Nupur looked up to find him looking down at her. She narrowed her eyes on him. "What?"
"She thinks I am cute. What do you say?" he grinned. She cocked her eyebrows teasingly, pout replacing his teethy grin."Okay. I get that"
Cute? It certainly was an understatement. Adorable maybe? She pondered smiling inside.
"Young man, when did you marry this beautiful young lady? For I guess it hadn't been long. Am I correct?" Asked the man next to the lady, probably her husband.
"Positively sir" she noticed him giving his signature smile, that dug dimples on his cheeks. It definitely didn't had any effect on the man, for his face still held hard expressions but didn't left any doubt of affecting the lady, when she cooed whispering "So cute!" with a dreamy eyed look."We got married yesterday only, we are here on honeymoon. How could you guess about the time span so easily?" He was curious. Was it stamped on their forehead that they married recently?
Suddenly the man smiled, he too had dimples. But not as cute as Mayank's, she deduced. "Oh! That was quite simple. A man only cares for his wife when they are newly wedded" he turned to wink at his companion "Moreover you both look so in skinny-love"
"Now what is that you old guy?" Before Mayank could interrogate, Lady snatched his words precisely. Skinny? He was fit but not skinny. And so was Nupur.
"When a person is in love but never admits it, though doesn't hesitates in showing it. That my lady love, would be skinny-love" lady smiled at her man eyeing the newlyweds with a mysterious stare.
" I had a good time today" she turned to emphasise her words with a smile.
They were just back to suite after a whole day of visiting London's few tourist places. London eye followed by Madame Tussauds, Natural History museum, Tate modern. She was thankful for having rather uneventful day after London's eye.
"Of course. At least someone had fun." He rolled his eyes, sarcasm dropping from his words. "So what was your favourite event of all? Time you spent teasing me for sleeping in that 'England- a history' movie or when you got to bore me with all the architectural details of Windsor castle or maybe pointing out differences between national history museum and Tate modren, when they were anything but repeat telecast of each other."
" No Mayank! they were entirely different in information they gave and specimens they had"
" No Nupur they were same. Boring being the similarity"
"As much as I remember I never interfered while you were planning out the places that we were to visit today. You could have did it according to your fondness."
"Yeah sure. Placed all 'my type' places on one day and cease all relief of the second day and succumb to tolerate all your lacklustre places for whole day?" He exclaimed too-dramatically for his 'style'.
She never knew the 'uncle' among the kids she knew from childhood still had a kid trapped inside that grown up body of himself. She was surprised and happy to know something that many didn't. Dia surely wouldn't be aware of her brothers' alter ego. "Okay. You don't have to put up with me in this context again. We can skip science museum and go visit some fun places tomorrow." Of course this is our honey moon not my college trip.
He laughed. "I don't mean it the way I said it Nupur." He laughed again. "It's true I got bored there but then I am not much fond of anything." Shrugging he paused. "Though I do have complains that you have eyes all for specimen and exhibits in places but not a glance for the one beside you" He winked and regretted for going too far too soon. She looked offended. She shuffled on her feet, looking at night lights of London city standing there in balcony with him. He smacked himself mentally. He must control his insane urges to tease, wink or touch her on any possible opportunity. "Nupur, I really do appreciate your vision for catching every possible tiny detail of everything in immediate sight. I mean it." He must remember she is the same girl who maybe thought of him somewhat akin to horrible human-eating monsters. Okay maybe a exaggeration, but she did look uncomfortable and scared and 'closed'. "Maybe we should sleep now, It's quite late."
"Yes. I shall go and sleep then." She left. Yet again leaving a confused Mayank hanging on the things he didn't understand. The worst enemy of Mayank sharma- Confusion, jumbled facts and hidden truths.
Lying on the bed, she was in entirely another world. Still in that London's eye cabin. Her hand in his. His fingers creating mayhem in her mind, body, heart and soul. A touch of lifetime..
Though 'twas smooth,
Yet sparks flew.
Soft and gentle,
Yet passion intact.
Calmness of sea,
Warmth of the sun.
Silence spoke volumes,
Yet no songs heard.
Budding new feelings,
Deep seated emotions.
The touch 'twas
something new, something rare..
Involuntarily her hand caught her other hand trying to feel that touch in the veins of her palm again. She wondered what it meant to him? Anything at all? Or mere a try to avoid being embarrassed in front of any strangers because of her sickness? She was disgusted with herself for even thinking that about Mayank. Of all the things she knew about him, It was last thing to ever be possible.
She opened her eyes, suddenly remembering that they were married. Married as in MARRIED married! Which meant they weren't on a education tour to just visit places and click photographs. It also meant.. She gulped down the bile that rose up to her throat, cursing herself for being so dumb. Sharing a cab, having meals together, roaming around the city together didn't made her realize as much about the facts that this was to approach too. She noticed that sound of shower had died. Closing her eyes she decided she would pretend to sleep when he comes out. Pulling covers furthermore on herself, she tried hiding inside the warm cocoon.
A door clicked. His footsteps fell somewhere towards balcony, a door closed. Maybe he went out to balcony. Still, footsteps were heard inside room, approaching bed-side. A switch clicked, taking way the last of the lights. His weight made the mattress sunk a little towards left side of bed. She closed her eyes tighter, holding her breath in. He too got into covers. To her relief he too stilled after few seconds. Soft sound of stifled snores reached her ears.
