PART III
Khushi woke up, feeling groggy and dazed. She could see the blurred forms of Di and Nani, looking at her anxiously. But...But where was he? She needed him right now...! She tried to get up, but was unable to... She felt nausea hit her, and as her hand flew to her mouth, Anjali was already holding a mug infront of her mouth...Forgetting her surroundings, Khushi puked her guts out. As her vision grew clearer, she realized she was in the hospital... Her eyes searched again... "A-Arnavji?" she called.
Arnav had already entered the ward and was hugging her, filled with joy and happiness...His eyes were brimmed with tears... He whispered into Khushi's ears, very softly. "Congrats Jaan... We are going to become Mamma and Papa..." Khushi's mind took time to register what he said...When she realized, she forgot EVERYTHING and began crying with joy onto Arnav's shoulder. Arnav hugged her, thanking God that she did not remember...
Anjali looked at her brother happily...She was going to become a Bua... She thought, but what Dadi had said still haunted her mind. Khushi looked at Anjali's face, and she remembered it suddenly.
"The truth.THAT KHUSHI's MAUSI GARIMA!SHE is the reason my son and his wife are dead!"
She cried out again, and Arnav could sense the change in her mood. "Khushi?" he asked anxiously.
"Arnavji, Dadi was saying...Amma and-"
Nani and Anjali exchanged a worried glance. Arnav told Khushi to calm down.
"No! I cannot...She is lying isn't she? PLease tell me she is lying..." she sobbed.
"Yes Khushi. She just misunderstood. Relax and go to sleep. In your condition, don't strain yourself too much."
Khushi lay back on her pillow, sniffling; still looking at Arnav; his face was an emotionless, and Khushi knew something was wrong...That he was hiding the truth...She didn't want to know the truth, she decided. Saying nothing, she fell asleep.
Then he gestured his family to come out.
"Chhotey, is Sumi saying the truth...?" Nani asked hesitantly.
"I don't know Nani. I don't care either... Whatever happened, Khushi was not to blame...' Arnav said.
Both ANJALI and Nani were surprised. Chhotey had taken such a big news so calmly? But they nodded in assent to his decision.
"Yes. Whatever happened, was in the past." Anjali murmured.
Well, well, well. This was just the beginning, thought Dadi. Garima would have to pay for it, she thought as she saw GH approaching. She knew her grandson well enough to know that though he was keeping his calm now, he would snap at the sight of Garima. She smiled. She got down from the taxi, and started walking towards the house, when she heard two women take Khushi's name. She stopped to listen.
"I am so happy for Khushi bitiya...Fate had played a cruel game on her, but now she is so happy with her husband..." said a woman, as she shopped for vegetables.
"True. Her first relation was broken for a very terrible reason..." agreed another woman.
Dadi smirked. First relation? She wondered amusedly which man had broken relations with her... But the smile was wiped off soon.
"Yes...Madhumatiji told me that he was already married. You remember that man? Who lived as a paying guest in their house?" the Vegetable-Lady asked, as she inspected tomatoes.
"Oh Yes...He was lawyer...Kya naam tha uska {What was his name?} oh yes...Shyam..."
Dadi was stunned. What?! A lawyer called SHYAM? That was too much of a coinicidence... She walked to the two ladies...
"Excuse me, but which Shyam are you talking about?" she asked the ladies.
Both of them turned, and stared at her. "Aapse matlab?"
"Actually, my grand daughter's husband is also a lawyer called Shyam..." Dadi said, hesitantly.
The ladies exchanged a glance. "Are you ARNAV bitua's grandmother."
A mute Dadi nodded once.
