Precap: Arnav has a bad nightmare about his past and in a fit of anger decides to make Payal leave RM. Aakash is unable to say anything. The Raizada family decide to go to Lucknow for Arnav's parents Shradh rituals. Khushi comes to know about the decision and has a big fight with both Aakash and Arnav about the same.

Ab aage 😊

CHAPTER 5 THE DOMINO EFFECT

Scene 1

[Cut to outside AR designs office]

Khushi rushes out of the office, tears streaming down her face. She tries to summon an autorickshaw so that she can go home to her sister as soon as possible. She feels emotionally drained and exhausted from the fight she just had. A myriad of thoughts are running in her mind; helplessness at not being able to do anything for her sister, anger at Aakash's inability to stand for his own wife and lastly, a lingering pain thinking about the true motive behind Arnav's decision.

She closes her eyes tightly, her mind playing back the scenes that took place in the not so distant past: a playful Arnav trying to kiss her, his naughty ploy to get a back massage, his protective stance in front of his Dadi, his unebbing support for her, the confession of his feelings in his angry outburst "I love you damnit!" Khushi's eyes snap open. This is the man who loves me; who made no two-ways about his decision to have me in his life; who told me clearly that he wants to remarry me so that I never leave him ever again. And yet... He deliberately did something to hurt her. Why did he do that? Khushi holds her head in her hands in despair. How can a man who claimed to love her so much do something so extreme, something that he knew would cause her pain? Why do you always hurt me Arnavji? She slowly wipes away her tears.

[Gupta House]

Payal is in her room. She is visibly upset and trying to distract herself by doing some chores. But her heart isn't in it. Suddenly her mobile rings. It is Aakash! She quickly picks it up.

"Hello Aakash?" she says in relief.

"Payal..." Aakash's voice pauses, he sounds unsure of himself. "Payal, I'm really sorry!" Payal grasps the phone tightly in her hands but doesn't say anything.

"I know jo kuch bhi hua, uske wajah se tumhe bahut dukh pahuncha hai," Aakash continues in a rush. He knows if he won't say everything now, he won't be able to later. "I'm sorry ki aise time pe main tumhare saath nahin hun." Payal starts sobbing. "Nai! Please ro mat Payal!" Aakash begs. Payal continues to sob softly, but still remains silent. "Ye decision mera nahin tha Payal, tum janti ho na?" Aakash asks her imploringly. It is important that she knows he could never think this way.

"Hum jaante hain Aakash," Payal mumbles. Aakash lets out a sigh of relief.

"Main bhai se baat karunga Payal," he assures her. "Main unhe manane ki koshish karunga - "

"Aur woh nahin mane to?" Payal demands. Aakash goes silent. "Aakash woh nahin mane to?" she persists.

[Cut to AR designs office, Arnav's cabin]

Arnav slowly walks to his chair and slumps down heavily on it. It feels to him as if his legs can't support his body weight anymore; why does it feel like he's run a marathon? Because fighting with Khushi always feels that way. She was mad at me. She was yelling and I should have been silently listening to her. Let all of her anger burn out. Why did I react? He sighs and leans back on his chair, his eyes closed, a troubled look on his face.

The scenes play back in his head; his surprise at seeing her in his office, the slowing of his heartbeats as he saw her beautiful face, his amusement at her bossing around, their argument, him holding her arms tightly, him swinging her round and blocking her against his desk with his arms, staring into her eyes, their slow breathing, the heat emanating from her body, the tears in her eyes, and the hauntingly sad question "Kya aap sach mein humse bahut pyaar karte hain, Arnavji?". His eyes snap open.

The one person in the entire world whom he could not bear to see sad; today he had managed to hurt her and brought tears to her eyes. He slams his hand down on his desk in frustration. The one person whom he always swore to protect; today he had managed to leave her all alone. His teeth grit in fury. The only person who he had ever loved with all his heart; today he made her question if that love was ever genuine. He angrily throws the files lying on his desk on to the floor. "Aapne saabit kar diya, ki Arnav Singh Raizada kabhi nahin badal sakta" her parting words echo in his mind. He holds his head dejectedly in his hands.

[Cut to Raizada Mansion, later at night]

Naniji and Mamiji are in the kitchen supervising dinner preparations. Aakash is sitting in the lounge, papers are scattered all over the centre table and he is encircling something on them as if marking his choices to decide something. Arnav dressed in his night clothes, walks down from the stairs and goes in the direction of Anjali's room Aakash looks up from his papers to Arnav and he stands up determined.

"Bhai!" Aakash calls loudly and Arnav stops to look at him. "Bhai, aapse kuch baat karni thi..." Arnav glances once towards Anjali's room and then walks to Aakash.

"Haan bolo, Aakash," Arnav says. Aakash looks towards the sofa as if indicating for him to sit down. Arnav understands and sits down.

"Actually, mujhe aapse aaj subah ke bare mein baat karni hai," Aakash mumbles carefully. Arnav's eyes become alert and his looks become wary.

"Haan bolo," he repeats looking straight into Aakash's eyes which look strangely calm.

"Bhai..." Aakash pauses. He seems momentarily uncertain as to how to go on. "Bhai, aaj tak maine aapki koi baat nahin taali hai. Aapne jo kuch bhi decide kiya maine hamesha maana hai." Arnav looks at him confusedly. He knew this already.

"Par aaj subah aapne jo kuch bhi decide kiya..." Aakash pauses again, trying to judge Arnav's reaction but to no success. Arnav's face was deadpan, not giving away any emotion. "Bhai, kya woh decision... badal nahin sakta?" he finishes lamely. Arnav stares at him.

[Cut to Gupta House, Khushi's room]

"Hum sach batayein Jeeji, ye mard zaat hi kharab hai!" Khushi is sitting cross legged on the bed and eating chane.

"Khushi Baba ka gyaan fir se shuru ho gaya?" Payal smiles at her.

"Aur nahin to kya Jeeji? Bura na maano, par Aakash ji ko dekho. Itne bhole bhale, itne ache hain par koi bhi unhe dhamka deta hai aur woh chup chap sun lete hain." Khushi says. Payal slaps her playfully on her back.

"Haan Khushi. Tumhari dhamki se darr ke abhi bhi kaamp rahe honge," Payal laughs.

"Arre Jeeji, hum apni dhamaki ki nahin, uss Laad Governer ki dhamki ki baat kar rahe hain!" Khushi angrily exclaims. Payal stops in her tracks and stares at Khushi. It's been a long time since she has heard that nick name. And Payal knows Khushi calls Arnav by that nick name only when she is mad at him.

"Uss Laad Governer ki himmat to dekho! Humare jeejaji ko dhamkaya!" Khushi continues heatedly. Payal doesn't say anything. Khushi notices her silence. "Tum chinta na karo jeeji. Hum uss Laad Governer ko bhi ache se sunake aaye hain."

"Kya?" Payal is shocked to hear that. "Tum unse kyun lad padi?"

Khushi looks furious. "Kyun lad padi matlab? Woh insaan kuch bhi kehta rahega aur hum chup chap sun lenge? Woh khud ko samajhte kya hain?"

"Khushi...?" Payal stares at Khushi in surprise. Ye wohi Khushi hai jo kuch din pehle tak humein batati thi ki woh Arnavji ko kitna chahti hai? Achanak ise kya ho gaya? "What happened Khushi?"

Khushi brushed it aside with a "Nothing jeeji!" Payal decides to distract Khushi. "Acha suno. Pata hai, aaj Aakash ne phone kiya tha," she mumbles and it gets Khushi's instant attention.

"Arre wah!" Khushi exclaims happily while thinking to herself lagta hai humari daant sach mein rang lai. "Kya kaha jeejaji ne?"

"And if he doesn't listen then?" Payal demands. Aakash goes silent. "Aakash what if he doesn't listen?" she persists.

"Actually, I want to talk to you about today morning's incident," Aakash mumbles carefully. Arnav's eyes become alert and his looks become wary.

"Yes?" he repeats looking straight into Aakash's eyes which look strangely calm.

"Bhai..." Aakash pauses. He seems momentarily uncertain as to how to go on. "Bhai, all these years, I've never said no to anything you said. Whatever you have decided, I've always accepted it." Arnav looks at him confusedly. He knew this already.

"But today morning whatever you decided..." Aakash pauses again, trying to judge Arnav's reaction but to no success. Arnav's face was deadpan, not giving away any emotion. "Bhai, that decision... can't it change?" he finishes lamely. Arnav stares at him.

[Cut to Gupta House, Khushi's room]

"Truth be told Jeeji, the entire clan of man is damnable!" Khushi is sitting cross legged on the bed and eating chane.

"Khushi Baba's pearls of wisdom starting again huh?" Payal smiles at her.

"Of course Jeeji. Don't mind me saying, but take Aakash ji for instance. He's such a nice guy at heart, so simple and straightforward that anyone can intimidate him and get away with it." Khushi says. Payal slaps her playfully on her back.

"Yeah Khushi. I'm sure he must be still shivering from your scolding," Payal laughs.

"Arre Jeeji, I'm not talking about my scolding, I'm referring to that Laad Governer's scolding!" Khushi angrily exclaims. Payal stops in her tracks and stares at Khushi. It's been a long time since she has heard that nick name. And Payal knows Khushi calls Arnav by that nick name only when she is mad at him.

"Look at that Laad Governer's guts! He dared to intimidate my jeejaji!" Khushi continues heatedly. Payal doesn't say anything. Khushi notices her silence. "Don't you worry, jeeji. I've made sure that the Laad Governer was also at the receiving end today."

"What?" Payal is shocked to hear that. "Why did you end up fighting with him?"

Khushi looks furious. "What do you mean why? That man will dictate his terms to everyone and no one dare say a word? What does he think of himself?"

"Khushi...?" Payal stares at Khushi in surprise. Is this the same Khushi who used to tell me how much she adores Arnavji up until just a few days ago? What's gotten into her suddenly? "What happened Khushi?"

Khushi brushed it aside with a "Nothing jeeji!" Payal decides to distract Khushi. "Listen. Do you know, Aakash called me today," she mumbles and it gets Khushi's instant attention.

"Ohh wonderful!" Khushi exclaims happily while thinking to herself I guess my scolding did bring the desired effect. "What did jeeja ji say?"

"Bhai!" Aakash calls loudly and Arnav stops to look at him. "Bhai, I need to speak with you..." Arnav glances once towards Anjali's room and then walks to Aakash.

"What is it Aakash?" Arnav says. Aakash looks towards the sofa as if indicating for him to sit down. Arnav understands and sits down.

"Tum chinta na karo jeeji. Hum uss Laad Governer ko bhi ache se sunake aaye hain."
