CHAPTER 52. A RAINY MONDAY AND A SWEET TUESDAY!
Place - Outside Khurana Constructions
Arnav sighed as he glanced at his watch. Where are you, Afreen? I am waiting for you. His Afreen was still in the office where Arnav, as usual, had come to pick her up. Soon, Khushi came out of the office and waved at him. He waved back and opened the car door and sat in. Khushi also came over and sat beside him and they drove away. Khushi remained quiet as her yesterday's dream was still haunting her mind and staining her cheek with blush. Arnav remained quiet as he tended to be when he was driving. After a while, rain started pouring in. Khushi put her hand out of the window and felt the raindrops on her fingers. Arnav looked at her and smiled. "Pichli baarish yaad hai?", Arnav asked. Khushi turned to look at him and nodded. How could she forget it? She had danced in the rain as the radio played Rabba Mein Toh Mar Gaya. "Bin mausam barsaat thi woh!", mumbled Khushi and Arnav nodded. "Par is baar baarish bin mausam nahi hai. The rainy season is starting!", Arnav said and Khushi nodded. Soon the drizzle turned into downpour and Arnav stopped the car. Khushi looked at him mischievously and he raised an eyebrow, both remembering the last time. She mock pouted and mumbled, "Gaadi kyon ruka di?" Arnav burst out laughing as she repeated the same words she had spoken when it rained last time. Soon, Khushi's laughter mingled with Arnav. As their laughter stopped, Arnav spoke, "Kya baat hai Khushi, you don't want to dance in this rain?" Khushi replied, "Pehli baat hum Khushi nahi Afreen hai!" Arnav smiled; those were the same words she had said last time. "Aur doosri baat, haan! Humein baarish mein naachna hai!" The moment she stopped speaking, she opened the car door and jumped out. "Arre Khush'Afreen! Suno toh!", Arnav hollered after her but Khushi was in her element. She stood in front of the car enjoying the rain. He remembered her request of putting the radio last time. He smirked and put on the radio. Soon music wafted into the air and Khushi turned to look at him in surprise.

"Yeh baarish ko bhi aaj hi aana! Site pe urgently jaana tha aur ab yeh baarish ke wajah se that's not possible!", Maan growled as he drove into the mansion. As he drove, he noticed a white figure near the outhouse. As the figure was near the outhouse, the person was not visible from the main house but anyone in the driveway could see that person. Maan narrowed his eyes, "Is waqt baarish mein kaun bheeg raha hai?" Maan stopped the car and got out. He walked towards the person slowly. As he neared the figure, he realized that it was none other than his Geet. Maan shook his head. Is ghar mein aur kaun hai jo baarish mein bheegega? Meri Soni ke siva! As he neared her, he saw that she had taken a radio from the house, covered it in a raincoat and placed it in the nearby chair. As it played the songs, she danced and pranced around. Maan leaned on the light pole nearby; Maan Beta, Time to enjoy your personal entertainment system named Geet.

"Hem hem!", Geet and Maan heard someone clear their throat. Geet looked up and her eyes widened. She pushed Maan's head and he looked around. As soon as he saw someone standing in front of him, he stood up. Geet stood up beside him turning red. "Agar aap dono ko romance karna hi hai toh andar kisi kamre mein jaayiye, baahar baarish mein apni tabiyat kyun kharaab kar rahe hai.", spoke Dadima as NT stood behind her holding the umbrella above them. Geet eeped and slapped both her hands on her mouth. Maan fumbled, "A'.woh'.Dadima '..woh'..hum'.woh". NT spoke up, "Haan! Haan! Hum samajhte hain Veerji! Aapke aankh mein kuch gaya hoga aur Geet aapki aankhon mein phoonk maar rahi thi. Haina Geet?" NT looked at Geet and Geet ran away into the house without looking up. Maan was about to stop her but noticing the audience kept quiet. "Haan Maan Bete! Toh aap yahaan kya kar rahe the?", Dadima raised an eyebrow and looked at Maan. "Dadima main abhi aata hoon. Ek important phone call hai!", Maan mumbled and walked away. The moment Maan was out of sight, NT and Dadima broke into giggles. "Lagta hai Dadima time aagaya hai sab kuch Official karne ka!", NT said and Dadima nodded and they walked off to the house.
Place - Outside Khurana Constructions
Khushi eagerly jumped into Arnav's car and he started driving. It was Tuesday and Arnav was there to pick her up. Arnav glanced at her; she seems to be smiling excitedly today. "Kya baat hai? Badi khush nazar aa rahi ho." Khushi looked at him eagerly. "Humaari khushi ki do wajah hai! Ek wajah yeh hai ki aapko yaad hai kuch din pehle aap ek attack hua tha aap pe? Ek college mein?" Arnav rolled his eyes, "Woh attack mujh par nahi tha. Woh Maan ki Soni par tha." "Bhabhi par tha par aap ki bhi toh jaan jaa sakti thi na?", Khushi replied. Arnav looked at her with a raised eyebrow, "Bhabhi?", he exclaimed with a teasing tone. Khushi narrowed her eyes, "Topic ko mat change kijiye. Yeh mat bhooliye ki aapko bhi chot lag sakti thi us din!" Arnav rolled his eyes, "Toh? Why are you talking about that day today?" Khushi huffed, "Hum us din itne dar gaye the ki humein toh kuch samajh hi nahi aa raha tha. Phir humein ek idea aaya. Aur humne yeh aapke liye khaas Lucknow se mangaaya hai.", she pointed a finger at a gift on the dashboard. What the? Arnav stopped the car sideways and picked up the gift. As he unwrapped it, his surprise turned into shock. "Ek murti?", he mumbled. In his hand was Devi Maiyya's small idol. Arnav looked at Khushi in confusion. Khushi looked back eagerly. "Haan Arnavji! Devi Maiyya ki murti! Woh aapki raksha karengi! Jab tak yeh aapke paas hai tab tak humein aapki koi chinta nahi hogi. Humaara mann darna bandh toh nahi karega par thoda darr toh kam ho hi jaayega!" Arnav shook his head. "Khushi, you know I don't believe in God. How many times do I have to tell you that?" Khushi frowned and thought, Humein pata hai aapko Devi Maiyya pe yakeen hai. Bas aap unse naaraaz ho kyunki unhonein aapki amma ki jaan nahi bachaayi; but she did not tell that openly. "Arnavji par yeh toh bhagwaan hai, inhein manaa nahi karte." Arnav placed the idol in her lap and hissed, "This is ridiculous!" He looked away and Khushi sighed. Ab inhein Devi Maiyya ko lene ke liye manaayein kaise! Suddenly, an idea popped in her head. "Arnavji kya aapki life mein humaari koi value nahi hai?", her voice was very sweet and innocence filled. Arnav jerked towards her, "What the! How can you say that?", he hissed angrily. Khushi remained unfazed and continued in her sweet voice, "Toh agar hum aapki life mein important hain toh aapko humaara khayaal rakhna chaahiye na?" Arnav raised an eyebrow. Where was this conversation leading to? Khushi continued, "Toh agar humein tension hoga toh humaari tabiyat bhi kharaab ho sakti haina?" Arnav nodded cautiously. Khushi continued, "Toh aapko humein tension se door rakhna chaahiye na?" Arnav snapped at her, "Get to the point, Dammit!" Khushi turned towards the front and took a deep breath, "Agar yeh Maiyya aapke saath nahi hogi toh humein aapki bahut fikar hogi. Aur phir tension mein hum bimaar pad jaayenge! Toh agar aap chaahte hain ki hum sahi salaamat rahe toh yeh murti'." Arnav snarled, "Fine! Dammit! Fine! I will keep your Damn murti!" He grabbed the murti from her hand and placed it on the dashboard. Khushi grinned smugly. Arnav took one look at her smug face and mumbled, "Damn these woman and their emotional blackmail", and started the car.
Place - Khurana Mansion
Dadima looked at everybody sternly from her place on the bed. She had asked the whole family to assemble in her room immediately to talk about something important. Geet stood near Dadima, her cheeks tinged with red as she was still embarrassed due to yesterday's evening. She felt that Dadima had called her to scold her and Maan. NT stood by Geet anticipation running through her whole body. She knew that Dadima had spoken to family Pandit few hours ago and she was eager to hear Dadima's announcement. Maan stood by the foot of the bed, his arms folded, his face stern as if he was ready to defend himself if Dadina said even a word about yesterdy's events. Dev stood by his Bro with a clueless expression. He was the only one who was neither excited nor scared and also the only one thinking about Parathas which, NT told him, had been prepared for the night's dinner. Dadima looked at each one of them and took a deep breath. "Kal jo hua uske baad hum poori raat soch mein doobe the'" Dev cut her off with, "Kal kya hua tha Daadima?" Maan glared at Dev, Geet squeezed her eyes shut and NT giggled. Maan turned back at Dadima and mumbled, "Par Daadima'" Daadima raised her hand and Maan stopped speaking. Dadima looked at him, "Kal jo humne dekha use madde nazar rakhte hue humne yeh faisla liya hai ki'." Geet looked at Daadima with a scared face; scared that Dadima will throw her out of the house. NT was almost shaking with anticipation while Dev looked confused. Maan looked angry, ready to revolt against any of Dadima's decision. Dadima continued, "ki ek mahine mein Geet aur Maan ki sagaai aur do mahine mein shaadi hogi!" Maan reacted in a second, "YEH NAHI HO SAK'.Kya?", Dadima's words penetrated into his skull. Dadima smiled at him, "Humne Panditji se baat karli hai. Unhonein sagaai aur shaadi ki mahurat nikaal liya hai!" Maan looked at her in wonder while Geet smiled softly. NT and Dev congratulated them. Dadima looked at NT, "NT beta! Kal ki sagaai ke baad hum in dono ki sagaai ki planning shuru karenge!" "Ji Dadima!", NT said with excitement in her voice. Dadima looked at Maan and Geet sternly, "Ab saari romance bachaake rakho. Shaadi ke baad apne kamre mein jitna Romance karna hai karlena!" Geet looked at Maan who winked at her and Geet blushed and looked away. The family turned to walk out of the room when Dev piped up, "Par koi mujhe yeh toh bataaye ki kal hua kya tha?" Geet blushed and ran off. Maan rolled his eyes and stalked away. NT slapped her forehead and pushed Dev out of the room. She was about to walk away when she noticed the sadness and worry on Dadima's face. She walked back to Dadima and sat beside her, "Dadima, kya hua? Aap itni pareshaan kyun lag rahi hai?" Dadima looked at her, "Panditji se jab baat hui toh unhonein ko kuch aisa bataaya ki humein bahut ghabraahat ho rahi hai!" NT gripped Dadima's hand, "Par unhonein aisa kya kahaa?" Dadima sighed, "Woh bole ki agle kuch din Maan ki zindagi ke liye bahut ahem hain. In dino mein jo hoga woh uski kismet ka faisla karega. Agar sab theek hua toh Maan zindagi mein kabhi dukh nahi aayega. Par.." NT looked at Dadima with apprehension, "Par?" Dadima looked down, "Par agar in dino mein kuch bhi mushkil aayi toh Maan ke naseeb mein ek saal ke liye sirf dard hoga. NT mere Maan ko kuch hoga toh nahi na?" NT was shocked by what she heard but put on a happy face for Dadima. "Kuch nahi hoga Dadima. Aur kuch hua tha hum sab hain Maan Veerji ke saath. Aur unhein sambhaalne ke liye Geet unke saath hi hogi. Aap fikar mat kijiye. Sab theek hojaayega." As NT assured Dadima, in her heart she prayed to Babaji that everything will go well for her Veerji. After the difficulties Maan had faced in his life, she wished he would never have sadness touch him.
Later, when NT had gone out of the room, Dadima stood by the window. Sab kuch theek hojaayega agar Geet Maan ko sambhaalne ki liye ho toh. Lekin jis mushkil ki baat Panditji kar rahe us mushkil ne Geet aur Maan ko alag kiya toh Maan ka kya hoga? Dadima had no answers.
Place - Near LaxmiNagar
Khushi was about to get down as the car had reached their regular dropping point when Arnav spoke, "Khushi! Earlier you were saying that you had two reasons to be happy! Ek toh thi yeh murti aur doosra reason kya hai?" Khushi sat back in the car, "Arre Woh kal humaari Jiji ki sagaai hai! Infact, hum toh kal Office bhi nahi aa rahe hain." Arnav remembered his plan, "Kal? It's tomorrow?" He put on a worried face. "Haan! Aapne padha nahi, invitation mein saaf saaf likha tha!" Arnav put on a confused face, "Shaayad'Pata nahi'Oh! Now I remember! Maine use padha hi nahi! I just kept in on my home desk and forgot about it. I thought you would inform me when the day is near!" Khushi frowned, "Achcha! Theek hai! Toh hum ab bata rahe hain. Jiji ki sagaai kal hai! Aayiyega haan!" Arnav put on the most regretful face, "I am sorry, Afreen! I can't come. You see '.. my cousin's getting engaged tomorrow too. I am sorry!" Khushi was upset. She bit her lower lip worriedly but soon her face lit up as an idea entered her head, "Aap baad mein kuch pal ke liye aa sakte haina! Aapke yahaan sagaai hone ke baad aayiyega aur humaare gharwaalon se milke jaayiyega!". She smiled at him sweetly and he felt a pang of guilt for lying to her so blatantly. Arnav bas ek aur din jhoot bol le! Kal sab kuch theek ho jaayega! Arnav convinced himself. "Sorry, Khushi! Mere gharwaale mujhe ek minute bhi nahi chodenge. I can't vanish like that! Sorry Afreen!" Khushi looked totally upset, "Ek taraf Maan Veerji nahi aa rahe aur ek taraf aap. Ab hum kya karein?" She pouted but soon brightened up, "Dekhna Arnavji! Jiji ki shaadi ka card na hum chaar mahine pehle chapwaayenge! Taaki aap aur Maan Veerji ko na aane ka koi bahaana na mile!" She huffed and got out. Arnav smiled softly. Agar mere plan ke hisaab se sab chala toh kuch mahino baad tum humaari shaadi ka card baatogi!" He smirked and drove away.
Place - Living room of Khurana Mansion
"DADIMAAA!", A loud scream filled the room as Anvesha Arjun Rathod alias Annie entered the house running excitedly followed by her husband Arjun, who was carrying all the luggage and swaying hither and thither trying to make sure he did not fall down. Annie ran right towards her Daadi who had got up from their seat and they hugged each other. Maan and Dev helped relieve Arjun of his luggage and all three were caught up in a group hug. NT was the next to get a hug from Annie while Geet stood by her side happy to see the whole family smiling. She could sense that Annie was life of this family and hoped Annie approved of her. Soon, Annie left NT and came over to her while Arjun took Dadi's ashirwaad and hugged his little sister. "Toh aap hain Geet, jinhonien Maan Bro ka dil cheena hai!", Annie spoke as she put her hand on her hip and looked at Geet from toe to face. Geet gulped and looked down while her hand fiddled with her Duppatta. Maan came behind Annie and hugged her. He placed his chin on her shoulder and mumbled, "Toh bataao Annie! Kaise lagi meri pasand?" "Bro pasand toh bahut khoobsurat hai! Par yeh itni chui-mui si aur aap itne garam mizaaz! Nibha paayegi yeh aapke saath?", Annie asked and Maan straightened. "Please Annie iske shakal pe mat jaao! Bahut khatarnaak cheez hai yeh!" Geet's jaw dropped and her eyes popped open. "Haa! Kya kahaa aapne? Phirse kahiye! Phirse kahiye toh!", Geet angrily looked at him and Maan laughed. "Dekha! Yeh dikhne mein chui-mui hai par muh khole toh sherni jaisi dahaadti hai!" Geet huffed and looked away as the family laughed. "Par mujhe Annie ki Bhabhi pasand hai!", Arjun piped up. "Kabse Bro humpe dhos jamaate hain. Chalo koi toh aaya unpe dhos jamaane waala!", he spoke and the family laughed. And this way Geet met the final piece of the family called Khuranas!
