*3 months later*
It was around 8:15 when Arnav returned home, however, Khushi was too busy munching on her jalebi's and bawling her eyes out to notice that he was back. Worried, he immediately dropped his laptop bag and rushed to her, wrapping his arms round her in a comforting hug. "What happened Khushi? Are you feeling okay? Did something happen? Khushi damnit stop crying and answer me!"
"How am I supposed to answer if you won't stop talking?" she giggled. "Woh Arnav, I was watching KKHH and at the end Salmanji sacrifices the love of his life and"
"What the - Khushi. It's just some stupid movie. Do you have any idea how worried I was seeing you crying like th-"
"Don't you call my Salmanji stupid", she exclaimed, narrowing her reddened eyes at him
"What the f- I said the movie is stupid Khushi, not "your" Salmanji, he said, rolling his eyes while stressing on the your.
Glaring at him, she left the room. Shocked, he thought about how she could be crying one moment, laughing the next and then angry. Pregnant women and their mood swings, he concluded, was something not even the great ASR could understand, or handle.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Later at night, he saw her eating jalebi's again. He had forgotten to remind her earlier about what the doctor had told them during their previous check-up because she was crying, but now he did not.
"You're not supposed to have so many jalebi's Khushi", he reminded her softly while moving his hand forward to take the plate from his hand, however she moved her hand which was holding the plate away from his grasp. "Khushi", he said firmly but inwardly smiling at her childishness, "you don't want our baby to get diabetes too now, do you?" She shook her head, implying a no, but yet didn't let him take the jalebi's. Cupping her left cheek with his right hand he said, "jaan, the doctor told us that you shouldn't be having too many sweets during your pregnancy. It's not good for you or the baby, Khushi". She opened her mouth to protest but he carried on, "and it's only a question of a few more months. I promise after the baby is born you can have as many jalebi's as you like", he said, trying to strike a deal with her.
It was during these moments that he was thankful to be ASR. His wife made such adorable expressions that he often wanted to laugh and give in to her demands just to see that smile that lit up her face, but he also knew that he couldn't take a chance with the pregnancy. She was anyways so fragile and delicate, always taking care of everyone but herself, hence, he made sure to put on his 'ASR no-nonsense' face and spoke with a firm voice, and it was during these times that she knew better than to argue, knowing her attempts will be futile, but nevertheless she always tried. She was, after all, not Khushi Arnav Singh Raizada for nothing.
Muttering under her breath, she gave him the plate of jalebi's and went to bed to sleep. He sighed, knowing that she was upset. She loved jalebi's, and she absolutely hated it when she wasn't able to eat them when she so badly wanted to. He knew he would have to be patient with her, so he went up to her the side of the bed she was currently trying to sleep on and made her look at him. Before he could say something, she started off with her rant ' "this is all your fault, she told him with accusing eyes. "I have to live without my jalebi's for so many months because of YOU". He tried to, but couldn't hold back the smile, and as soon as she saw the sides of his lips curve up into a smile, she started with a new found anger, "DON'T YOU SMILE AT ME LIKE THAT ARNAV! DON'T YOU DARE", and when that small smile still refused to leave his lips she said something she knew would annoy him. "Arnavji, I'm sleepy, goodnight", the emphasis on the ji and the sweetness in her voice not going unnoticed by Arnav. Making a sulking face, he immediately transported back to the time before their second marriage when he had insisted that she start calling him Arnav.
*flashback*
"Khushi please. Arnavji makes me sound like an old man, and I certainly don't want my wife to call me that", he whined like a child.
"But you are an old man!", she said giggling.
"Khushi", he answered back with a glare and in that threatening tone that would scare anyone but her.
"Okay okay, would you prefer swami then, Arnavji or perhaps laad governor?" She cheekily replied, stressing on both swami and the ji.
"Khushi Kumari Gupta -pause- Singh Raizada, would you like me to call you Khushiji then, or perhaps Sanka Devi", he shot back, mimicking her.
"Arnavji!", she exclaimed.
"Yes Khushiji."
"Stop calling me Khushiji"
"Stop calling me Arnavji"
"But-"
"No buts, Khushi -ji, either you call me Arnav or I call you Khushiji, and trust me calling you feels more than just a little weird. Say my name, Khushi, say it"
"I can't Arnavji, you're my husband."
"Oh, I get it. Why don't you just admit that you're scared Khushi. You don't have the guts to call me Arnav."
"What the - that's not true."
"Really? Go on, prove that it isn't true."
She narrowed her eyes," I'm not going to fall in your trap this time."
He simply shrugged his shoulders and said in a taunting voice, "I thought Khushi Kumari Gupta Singh Raizada could do anything, guess I was wrong." He saw determination in her eyes and he knew he had succeeded. Their personality may be poles apart but the one thing that was common between both of them was that they hated to lose. Often, challenges were their weakness, because they would just accepted them, making it easier for the other to get things done, much like how Arnav got Khushi to drop the 'ji' from his name.
"Ar..Arnav", she finally said.
He smiled, "how difficult was that Khushi?"
*end of flashback*
Ever since then, it was almost like an unspoken thing between them. Khushi would call him, Swami or Arnavji.. Laad Governor was still quite a common occurrence though, and he would call her Khushiji or Sanka Devi whenever they wanted to tease the other, knowing those names riled up the other.
Smiling at the memory, he pecked her forehead, and replied with a goodnight Khushiji, which did nothing but annoy her further. Gently, he kissed her only slightly bloated stomach softly, whispering a goodnight to the baby that resided inside his wife. Soon, he slipped into the bed beside her, putting his arms around her waist. She smiled unconsciously in her sleep and sought for a comfortable position in the warmth of her husband's protective hold as they both went deep into a peaceful slumber.
