CHAPTER 5

I took for granted all the times,

That I thought would last somehow,

I hear your laughter, taste the tears,

But I can't get near you know.

Each new day saw an evolving Arnav; the man who hid himself behind piles of paper and people, citing 'work' as reason was gone. He stood there and battled the storm. He was a man with a commitment.

Each day he brought her new things, each day hoping to be greeted by a bright smile, glowing face and her beautiful smile. From cuddly teddy bears, chocolates, balloons, glowing stars, jalebis, clothes, stuffed animals to red roses, everything that Khushi enjoyed.

After a long day at work, he sat besides her discussing his day, with a cuddly and furry white bear, AlooKumar in his lap. He played with her tresses cribbing about his incompetent staff and comparing them with the zeal that Khushi had worked with during her short stint at the office.

He imagined her in a different time, him retuning after a long boring day at office to find Khushi up with her antics again.

Her dancing on the bed with AlooKumar in her arms, A Salman Khan song playing behind her, hip swaying, a crazy twinkle in her eyes, hair flying in the wind and a lovely smile playing on her lips.

He imagined her talking to the bear about her Laad Governor, complaining away oblivious to her surroundings, making faces at the bear, trying to express her dislike.

He pulled down to lay besides her in bed and with a peck on the cheek and a 'good night' he called in a night.

One day she would feel his love and be alive again.

And I will be right her waiting for you,

'Coz, In the End If I am with you,

I'll take the chance.

Khushi felt her surroundings change. For days or years or may be an eternity there had been nothing at all, she had laid still. She had felt nothing, seen nothing and cared for nothing in all this while. Disconnected.

However, today, the first vestiges of pain seared through her body, as she twitched. A force tried to rise her, pull her out of the heaven she had been granted after a long struggle.

There was no happiness,

But there was also no pain.

There were no colors,

But nor was it black.

I hear your voice, on the line

But it doesn't stop the pain.

"humne kaha uska wo matlab yeh nahi hai, ke aap kahi chale jaye.

Hum yeh bhi nahi chahte ke aap apni shakal hamme na dikahye

Hum dil se maafi mangte hai,

App bus ghar ajaye."

Everytime he had wanted to hear her voice, he had played the voice mail over and over again. Replayed how perfect that day had been and the kiss he had planted on her cheeks. He had saved the voice mail, one of the tiny memories he had of her that to any other person may have been insignificant. To him, it meant more than the world. Her voice, laced with concern and love, a feeling he had not been able to distinguish earlier.

"Khushi, AlooKumar is lonely without you. You can wake up or maybe we can go find him a girlfriend."

"There is a new movie of your Salmanji, want to go watch it with me. It's a date."

"Hey how about a new name for your dabba service, KSR rather than KKGSR. You know its quite long. By the way, you partner, Shuklaji was complaining that you don't show up for work. He can't handle all the work alone."

"I think you should come back to the office, Khushi. After all, you still owe me a lot of money. You can repay the debt and I can have a cute secretary." He said, a naughty smirk playing on his face.

"Khushi, good night, sweet dreams."

It went on and on, each day. When Khushi failed at her job, Arnav Singh Raizada took up the job to fill the room and the void in their life with incessant chatter.

Wherever you go,

Whatever you do,

I'll be right here waiting for you.
