I'm loving the start of this SS...Swayam hurt, can't dance and has basically snapped all ties with his world...That's so not Swayam and Sharon wanting to get him back...This is so exciting...Do update soon,Pree !!!
She would've missed him getting out of the building if she hadn't been looking at every person going in and out of the building with minute details. She had been sitting on the bench across his building since two hours chewing on her fourth packet of chips, to hell with the extra calories she'll put on, she was nervous beyond wits. It was his bag that gave him away. It was the same bag that Vicky and Nil had complained of being too being too plain and had decorated every inch of it with a permanent marker. She would've wondered why he was still using that bag if he wanted to cut himself off his friends but she was too busy staring at him with an open mouth as she saw him now – limping on a crutch, a dark hoodie covering his face, looking down so that no one saw his face.
As soon as she found her brains again she clamped her mouth shut and followed him. She couldn't help but chuckle at the fact that now she was the stalker – a false accusation she had charged him of long ago. She saw him walking into the nearby park, thinking of it to be the best time to make her first move. She knew he was not going to listen to her and come back the first time itself, he was too stubborn for that. That was the reason she had rented a flat nearby. She didn't care how long it took. All she knew was that she was going to get the old Swayam back.
She stopped dead in her tracks as Swayam stopped, a kid's football hitting him in his chest, making his hood fall with the impact. The kid came running to him for his ball chanting a string of sorry. But the air seemed to have been sucked out of both of their lungs when they saw his face – the right side an abstract image with all the stitches that ran from everywhere to everywhere. She remembered Taani telling Rey that his face had been almost close to destroyed, but Sharon thought she was just exaggerating, unfortunately, not much.
She staggered, unable to move further. She tried hard but she couldn't walk to him as she saw him pull up his hood and walk away from there. She walked back to her flat in a daze, images of his face before the accident whizzing in her mind. All she could think of was the cruelty of fate as she fell down on her bed and began sobbing uncontrollably.
The doorbell rang waking her up with a start. She tried to move her neck, it pained because of the awkward position she had fallen asleep in. the clock on the bedside table beeped indicating the strike of an hour and she saw it showing 6 pm, it was almost getting dark outside. She wondered who was at the door.
"Fell asleep?" Rey asked with a smile as she crushed her into a rib cracking hug.
"Ow!" She said her hand automatically grasping her neck.
"Bad position?" Rey chuckled.
"Pretty bad…" She said as she moved aside to let him in.
"So…" Rey asked looking at her massaging her shoulder.
"Want some coffee?" She asked as she exercised her neck. As he nodded she moved towards the small kitchen of her one room flat, switching on the coffee machine. "Did you try Swayam's phone?" She asked not meeting his gaze as he entered the kitchen behind her.
"I do that every half an hour Sharon, all of us do." He said taking the coffee mug that Sharon gave to him. "Did meet him? Did you try taking to him?"
"I… I couldn't…" She said defeated.
"You couldn't? What the hell are you saying Sharon??" Rey couldn't believe it was his best friend saying that. He couldn't remember when the last time she accepted defeat in something was.
"I… I…" Sharon couldn't muster the courage to tell him the truth and went back to her bedroom. "I saw his condition today. He's walking with a crutch. His face is destroyed… I…" Sharon fell down on the bed.
"That's it?" Rey shouted losing his control. Sharon was startled; she just wasn't used to a screaming Rey. "You saw his battered face and you got scared. It's just the looks of the person to you?"
"Shut up Rey!" Sharon got up, furious. "Out of everyone who knows me, you know me the best. And you think it's all about looks for me? You think I'm so shallow that I'll not talk to my friend just because he has some bruises in his face. The fact that he is injured inside, right here…" She said putting a hand on her chest. "… won't matter to me in front of his looks!"
"Sharon…" Rey tried to reason out with her, trying to tell her she had got him all wrong.
"No Rey! And here I was cursing fate for doing that to him. Wondering what I'd be saying to him now. I can't tell him I understand. Because I honestly don't. I don't know the physical pain and mental agony he's going through. And dance… I was thinking I'll use it as his weak point. But looking at him I wonder if he'll even be able to dance again." Sharon was facing his back towards him now trying to channelize her anger. She wondered if she was truly angry at Rey for misunderstanding or herself for being a coward today and running away from there.
"Sharon…" Rey held her by her shoulders and turned her around engulfing her into a tight hug. Sharon buried her face into his chest, sobbing at the pain of Swayam. "Get him back for us. For yourself. We know you can." Rey kept on repeating in her ear in a low tone.
