Part 31

Shakti- yahan nahi, bhaiya…. Wahan rakh dijiye.

Amar saw her instructing a servant carrying a table….. he looked around…. The place looked like it was under some kind of construction.

Amar- hey….. what's going on?

Shakti turned at the sound of his voice….. and as always her heart skipped a beat….. thank god he had his clothes on….. not that he would have come here without putting something on, but she was still apprehensive….. she couldn't trust this guy….. and especially not her feelings when it comes to Amar.

He was waiting for her to say something.

Shakti- Well, I'm doing arrangements for a romantic dinner for two.

She looked around proudly at her work, which was still in progress….. She missed the surprise expression in Amar's eyes.

Amar- uh…. you dint have to, Shaks….. we could have gone out for dinner.

Shakti- (frowned) what?

She looked at him….. he looked totally lost….. Realizing what he had misinterpreted, she blinked and her eyes widened too.

Shakti- oh!….. I dint mean it for us.

He frowned….. he gave her a weird look, that she couldn't understand.

Amar- then?... who's your date?

She would have laughed, if it wasn't for his serious expression….. he looked so cute with that pout….. she decided to tease him a little while longer.

She smiled and turned around to help the servant with the table cloth.

He walked up to her.

Amar- (irritated) kaun hai?... that Duffer, Yash?... did you ask him out?

She bit back a chuckle and walked to the terrace railing to put on some drapes.

Amar followed her….. yanked her by the arm and turned her to face him.

Amar- bolo!!

She looked up at his glaring eyes….. she wanted to hold his face and soothe those worry lines on his forehead with a kiss….. she shuddered with just the thought of her lips on his skin.

The servant cleared his throat.

Servant- umm…. Madam, yeh ho gaya….. aur khuch chahiye?

She blinked and moved away from Amar.

Shakti- nahi…. Yeh thik hai….. thank you.

The servant left and she went back to do her work.

She sat on the floor, sorting out some decorating lights….. he came and stood in front of her…. she dint bother to look up….. continued to untangle the strings of the lights…. He kneeled down and he snatched the lights from her hands.

Amar- answer me dammit!!

She blinked and kept staring at him with an indifferent expression….. this irritated him further…. And he almost growled.

Shakti- what's your problem Kunwar?... let me do my work.

She snatched the lights back from his hand….. his fingers scraped on the strings with the sudden pull…..

Amar- oouuu!!!

Shakti- shit!!

She took his hand in hers to have a look….. but before she could see anything, he pulled his hand back and got up….. she got up as well….. and she dragged his hand back in hers….. he tried to resist but she was stronger….. she dint let go this time….. she saw that his finger bleeding….. she bent down and took it in her mouth….. trying to stop the bleeding.

As soon as her lips touched his hand, he stiffened….. he watched her suck on the finger….. oh dear heavens, that was so arousing!!….. he groaned.

She stopped and looked up.

Shakti- does it hurt?

Hell no!!!... that felt good….. real good!!... he just shook his head.

She examined the finger that had now stopped bleeding….. he wished it hadn't stopped so soon….. he took his hand back….. and blinked, realizing she still hadn't answered his question.

Amar- who are you doing this for?

Ok that was enough….. she had her fun….. she opened her mouth to answer him but the shrilling sound of her phone interrupted her…. She removed the phone from her back pocket….. saw the caller id and gasped….. Amar followed her gaze and saw Yash's name flash on the screen….. he looked up and their eyes met….. he swiftly turned around and moved away trying to get some distance between them, before he threw her phone away….. he went and stood at the railing, gripping it fiercely….. at that moment, he dint care if his hand hurt.

Shakti answered the phone.

Shakti- hello?

Yash- hi beautiful.

Shakti- yes Yash?….. I'm busy….. what is it?

Yash- Vivek just told me that you might need some help with tonight's dinner arrangements for Pankti and him.

Shakti- no that's ok….. we have finished most of it.

Yash- we?

Shakti looked up at where Amar was standing facing his back to her….. his shoulders tensed and his back stiff.

Yash- hey, you there?

Shakti- ya….. but I have to go….. I'll talk to you later.

Yash- alright….. call me.

She cut the call without answering.

She walked up to Amar and stood behind him.

Shakti- Kunwar, it's not what you think.

When he dint answer nor did he turn back, she continued….

Shakti- Vivek had asked me to arrange this dinner date for Pankti….. today they would complete 2 years of their relationship, from the time he proposed….. and since it's just one day before their marriage, they are not officially suppose to meet….. so he requested me to make the arrangements, without anyone knowing….. and I couldn't do this by myself, so I wanted you to help me.

He turned and looked in her eyes for a long while….. probably still digesting what she had told him.

Amar- aur Yash?

Shakti- that champu called to inquire about the arrangements…. Vivek must have asked him to.

Amar- oh

He looked down and after a while back at her.

Amar- I'm sorry.

Shakti laughed….. it was laugh of relief….. he joined her.

Shakti- pagal

She shook her head and turned back to watch the terrace and sighed….. still a lot to do.

Shakti went over to the table and started arranging the candles….. she looked over her shoulder.

Shakti- ab wahi bhoot banke khade rahoge, ya khuch kaam bhi karoge?

Amar blinked and got out of his trance.

Amar- kya karna hai?

Shakti- woh lights laga do please.

And they both silently got back to work.

After almost an hour they stood back watching at their work….. they grinned at each other, proud of what they had done….. A table set in the center with candles, flowers, balloons around….. drapes and pretty lights fencing the railing, making it all the more appealing….. everything in the shade of white and red….. it felt like a romantic hindi serial set….. they even joked about it….. saying that since Pankti was a sister of the famous creative head from the small screen industry, this arrangement was apt for her.

Shakti checked her watch….. it was past 7.

Shakti- uff….. finally done….. and it's lovely….. we make a great team…. Hai na?

Amar- always

She turned to look at him….. he was staring at her….. with those deadly eyes, that made her insides melt.

Shakti- umm….. we should go….. they should be here any minute... I have told the caterer to send them their food and drinks in a while.

Amar- that's perfect.

His eyes never leaving her face….. the intense look making her uncomfortable….. she turned around to leave….. Amar smiled….. shook his head and followed her out.

He caught up to her.

Amar- toh ab?

Shakti- ab kya?

Amar- ab hum kya karein?

Shakti shrugged.

Amar- I don't know about you, but I'm starving.

Shakti laughed.

Shakti- now that you remind me….. me too. (wink)

Amar- toh chale?

Shakti- (frowned) kahan?

Amar- dinner pe.

Shakti- thik hai tum chalo….. main baaki sabko dining room main leke aati hun.

Amar hesitated.

Shakti- kya?

Amar- kahin bahar chale?

She blinked back the surprise.

Shakti- bahar?

Amar- it'll be great….. I saw this place while sightseeing the other day….. the ambience is superb….. typical Rajasthani style….. it's gonna be my treat….. what say?

He looked so excited, she dint have the heart to say no….. plus she wanted to go too.

Shakti- uhh….. shouldn't we ask the others?

Amar- ab sab ke liye mere paas paise nahi hai.

Shakti- oh well, ya I shouldn't waste my opportunity for this generous offer of your treat, right? (wink)

He laughed.

Shakti- I'll just get ready….. gimme 15 mins.

Amar- sure….. where should I meet you?

Shakti- we'll meet in the parking lot.

Amar- cool….. don't make this nanhi si jaan wait for too long. (puppy look)

Shakti rolled her eyes….. giggled and left for her room.
