Time almost slows down when reading your updates...resembling a state of meditation when one is really conscious of their surroundings. You can connect with the characters and the situations surrounding them.
After being controlled her whole life, and moulded into what her parents and others sought her to become...she is finally falling free, and morphing into her own being.
The teenage years of our lives are definitely the most exhilarating, a time when we rebel and break free. We experience our first crushes and the wild butterflies in our stomachs. We smile at the oddest moments and go through all the emotional drama that comes with gaining responsibility and freedom.
These things have most definitely come late into Geet's life...but you know what they say, better late than never!

She didn't know if she needed a short one or a stout one. Would a taller one with a wide base be easier to decorate? She couldn't be bothered with the details when a Christmas tree was only a sane sounding reason of the few she could come up with. Although, she figured, that it was the only idea she could think of, to keep him longer at home. He could help her decorate and she didn't think he needed convincing that decorating a Christmas tree was degrading his machismo by any means. That was settled then and they went off walking the festive and breezy streets of SF, shopping for the tree ornaments and the lights and the star. When they were done shopping for the trinkets, she steered him off to the far end of the downtown where the trees were on sale.
He held her by both her shoulders and had her walk around a puddle on the ground, navigating their way around the Christmas tree lot. She looked back and smiled at him, just as he cautioned her in a rising tone that tinged with concern.
"Watch out for the platform" The bags that he was holding, danced to the sides of her upper arms as he continued to have his palms on her shoulders, as if she was leading him into the land of the evergreen, towards the back of the grounds.
It was the first time she was shopping for a tree, but the instincts - a vision of tiny pearl lights go on inside her - where unmistakable when he swept past a tree that was slightly taller than he was and right that same instant she felt she'd found the one she was taking home with her. The seller wrapped the tree in a net and they hailed a cab to go back home. It was strange. With a tree on the top of the cab and both of them huddled against each other, surrounded by bags of ornaments shaking from the uneven road like white jelly fish, she felt she was coming down with something. The symptoms were sharp in their presenting: a head rush, cold hands coated with sweat accompanied by an acute awareness that made her heart beats sound as African drums going off in her ears; the thuds made her nervous than her nearness to him. She was going to faint any second and so before she could embarrass herself, she managed an uneasy difficult smile and leaned her head on his shoulder.
He held her taking his arm behind her back and her body inched in on its own. She was so consumed by the present that all of her being seemed weighed down by the precise details of what made up her moment - the color of the buildings that raced past her window, his breath that occasionally caressed her forehead, his chin that rustled her hair, his fingers stoking her arm in small finite movements which were so defined in their touch that she couldn't help but imagine he was aware of her internal state of tension. And this made her perceive her past as no more than a speck in the luminous, blinding light of the present day.
Once they reached the sidewalk of her building, they got off the cab and the driver helped move the tree to the curb side. It was a sight - she would later recollect - watching him lift the tree onto his shoulders - as if it weighed nothing at all - and walk past the hallways unto the elevator lobby. The elevator eased his burden for a few brief minutes and then they were at her door. She was walking behind him and so she hurried now to get to his side and unlock the door to her apartment. Her hands fumbled, failing to find the key in the crowded bunch and when she finally placed her hand on the knob to twist open and unhinge the door, she felt his hand on her shoulder again. She turned to find the Christmas tree leaning against the length of his body and his face held a curious, contemplative look that held traces of a dissolving smile.
He drew his hand back, but kept his measuring eyes on her and asked, "You have never gotten a Christmas tree...have you?"
