Geet sat to do some math sums but her mind was elsewhere.she was very sad that the day was a holiday.she wanted those regular classes, she wanted to see Maan,but now that was not the case.she was in a delima about how she was going to spend an entire day
her phone rang.
Geet; Yes Meera,tell.
Meera; hey,u remember we had missed one maths lecture? actually most of them had not come that day.so sir is taking that chapter once again.are you coming?
Geet ; (thinking about maan) tell me na who all are coming?
Meera; well.i am there,Mona,Natasha,Pooja n five-six more are cuming and...
Geet; and...??
Meera ; and among the boys i think Jason,Gaurav and Maan are cuming.Actually...
(Geet interupts her in between.a smile on her face.After all,that's what she wanted to hear)
Geet ; okay,okay...fine...i am coming.(disconnectes the phone).
There was thrill,enjoyment,happiness in her.she never felt so lucky before.The mixed emotions could be seen on her face which were very natural for a person who fell a romantic love for the first time.She concluded that she didn't know whether falling in love was right or wrong but whatever it was,it was the best feeling that she has ever had.
Geet ;(packing her bag hastily) Mom,going to college.i had missed one chapter before so attending it now
Mom ;But Geet, you told me that it was quiet easy and that u had managed it alone.
Geet ; oh! Actually mom...I...yes..., woh kya hai na i have some minor doubts so was just thinking to get it clarified.anyways,see you later,bye..
She raced down the stairs.she didn't want to miss the bus.There was thrill n there was excitement in her breath .she dashed Yash on her way but didn't stop to answer his enquiries.
No sooner did Geet push open the door of the classroom,she saw Maan with his friends.Her joy was endless,her eyes sparkled.maan looked at her direction but hardly paid attention.Geet cheerfully went and sat on her desk.She wanted to talk to Maan.but how?.she did not consider herself to be bold enough to go straight to Maan and tell him her 'dil ki baat'.
The sums were being taught but Geet paid no heed.Just then the office boy came in and asked for Geet.There was call for her from home.The teacher let her go but told her to come soon
She went outside to attend to the call.While returning she saw Maan at the corridor.Perhaps,he was removed from the class.She considered herself second time lucky as here was the chance she had been waiting for.there was nervousness but she couldn't afford to miss it!
Geet; you were inside right?
Maan saw her looking at him with some interest.She had beauty, he thought.he considered her for a moment and then replied
"yes,but now i am outside!"
"achcha,...i am Geet"
"i know that, Ms Handa"
Geet was happy to know that Maan knew her full name.she wanted to bring him in a conversation mood but she was aware that that was not the right place to have one.
"well,Mr Khurana,did sir put you out of the classroom?"
"you can put it that way!"
"hmm...so...a...the corridors are nice,aren't they?"
"dunno,i didn't notice them."
"are you staying here in this hostel"
"may be.but you seem too interested in my business"
"no no, nothing like that.we are classmates so..we all must know about each other"
"Don't you think , it's 'too early' for knowing each other?.we have only few months left in this college."
"Ye-s but--Better late than never!"
" Aren't you are forgetting something?"
"what?,your birthday?".
To this reply Maan culdn't help smiling.For the first time in their 'conversation' he smiled.
"i think you have a class to attend."
(She pretends to be worried.she moves one step closer to Maan but he moves one step backward)
"Really?but now there is hardly any time left...hei babaji,ab mein kya karu?sir ko kya jawaab do!"
Maan was a little taken aback.Here was a girl who was,a few seconds ago calmly 'talking' to him and now suddenly she looked as though she had missed a chance to land on Moon!.Girls!(actually Geet),he could never understand them.
"anyways,can't go now.I am going to the canteen" she paused and then asked "will you come?"
"well,according to you i am punished so i m not supposed to move from here..."
Geet interupted him,"okay,okay...thik hai,i will go then"
She started to go.she looked behind for once but Maan was not looking at her."nice talking to you Mr Khurana", she mumbled under her breath.
It was late.there was only fifteen mins for the lec to get over.She decided to wait for Meera in the canteen.She looked different.she was happy that she had talked to Maan for the first time in two years and that she took it as an achievment.
When meera saw her,she was surprised to see a cheerful n bubbly Geet.she noticed a sudden change in her.
Meera (taking a chair) ; did you win a lottery?
Geet; (surprised) no...why do u ask?
Meera; woh phone call kiska tha?
Geet; oh...that! actually,i left my cell at home in a rush.mom had to go out n yash is also not at home.so she told me to take the keys from our neighbour.
Meera; O...kay so did you go all the way back home to check whether the keys are really there?
Geet;(laughs).tum bhi na meera, so queer you talk
Meera; so where were you for 40 mins?(looks at her keenly)koi chakkar toh...nahi hai na?
Geet; N...Nooo.(pretends)oh! i forgot ! i need to rush!...seee u later. take care.Bye..
Meera; but ...Geet...WAIT!
but she was gone.
Geet quoted that that day was one of the best days of her life.she dreamt that they would soon become friends,walking hand in hand and eventually Maan will fall for her.she dreamt of every possible things like them having study dates,having gol gappe with him, drenching in the rain and what not!
The months flew by.Maan and Geet talked ,but not often.nothing had turned out the way she had thought it to be.But still,every little talk with him brought great pleasure to her.It seemed to her that destiny too wanted them to bring together.She could't say that they were friends but she also cudn't say that they were not friends.they were somewhere in between. Maan, on the other hand, considered her a bother and often wondered why Geet now-a-days wanted to talk to him.it was not new for him that a girl was showering attention on him.Girls were always after him.After all,he was the most good-looking guy,the college had ever had.But he was not in the good books of serious girls like Geet.
Soon,other students also noticed the change in Geet.the happiness in her eyes when she saw Maan was visible to one and all.she couldn't cover her emotions anymore.So everyone started gossiping about Maan n Geet .Maan's friends teased him saying that Geet liked him a lot.Geet was at a loss for words.But Maan was furious.He was disgusted ,he couldn't take it.It was not that he faced this kind of situation for the first time but this bothered him a lot. he didn't know why he was reacting so much.He decided to avoid her henceforth.

It was the day of the Parent-Teacher Meeting as the terminal exam results were out.Maan was very happy that dadi was coming from Delhi. He had not seen her from the past one year.Dev was coming too.
Geet was not happy as she knew her exams were not that good.Her parents would surely question her in that matter.She was pacing up and down the staircase when suddenly she saw Meera talking to an old lady who looked royal .
Geet; hey, Meera,who was that lady whom you were talking to.You seem to know her from long time.
Meera; yes ofcourse,she is Maan's dadi Mrs Savitridevi Khurana!
Geet;(taken aback)what!! You know her!
Meera; yes,i not only know her but Maan's entire family, his dad n also his brother Dev
Geet; (with wide eyes)bu--t how??
