Geet; Meera you are joking!how can you two be family friends?.you didn't interact with him even once!
Meera; It's because i don't like to talk to him.
Geet; But why?
Meera; long story yaar!
Geet; come,on be prepared to tell me.
Meera; okay,so listen.i know him since high school days.My dad and his dad are partners in business.And u know what, they want us to continue the business (laughs) but that will never ever happen!.there's a huge communication gap between us.At first i tried to talk to him.But he used to just ignore me.then even i thought that if he doesn't wish to talk,i also should keep distance from him.so,in get-together occasions,we were like 'known strangers'.About the other brother,Dev is friendly,so we talk on phone sometimes.
Geet; why didn't you tell me this before ?
Meera;(teasingly) you also didn't tell u liked him
Geet; haan,woh bhi hai.toh what should i do nw?
Meera; i think it's just an infatuation.(with a knowledgable voice)according to some psychological studies,if a crush lasts for more than 4 months,then the person is already in love.so no need to worry as your's is less than 4 months (looks at her for approval)...right??
Geet; Wrong,it's seven months.(looks confused)
Meera; WHAT?? o...kay,,,,,well...sometimes , i mean most of the times...these reports are false.
Geet; again, i ask what do i do NOW?
Meera; haven't you contemplated telling him about it?
Geet; nope,didn't have the courage and anyways it's must be a normal thing for him .girls propose him,he disposes them!.
Meera; Geet,there is a lot of difference between you and those foolish girls. i think you must go and confess it to him
Geet; do you think he will say yes.
Meera; you can try dear.now go! don't waste any time.he might be still in the classroom alone.
Geet; i am feeling nervous
Meera; (like a love guru)pyaar kiya toh darna kya. and yes,come straight to the point.Okay?
Geet; okay...
She went.her mind had many doubts.she felt as if her heart and mind were playin hide n seek...but still there was an urge within to let out everything in front of Maan.
Meera, on the other hand too was worried about Geet.She had told Geet to go and tell maan everything but she feared the consequences.Thinking those things over and over again, she didn't realize she was standing at her doorstep.
Meera was surprised to see dadima at her house waiting for her.
Meera ; Dadima,aap yaha?aapne kyun takleef ki,mujhe bula liya hota.
Dadima ; abhi toh hum jawaan hai bete...
(they both laugh over her dialogue)
Dadima; Meera,hume aapse kuch zaroori baat karni hai.
Meera ; kahiye na dadima.
Dadima; there are only two months left for your board exams to get over. Maan is going to London for his higher studies.Actually he wanted to go soon after his 10th, but i told him to complete his junior college in India and then go abroad.
Meera was shocked.she didn't know how would Geet react to this development.
Meera ;that's...that's indeed...a...good news.
Dadima; so,It would be nice if you accompany him.
Meera was aghast.she was shell shocked.she did not know how to say no to dadima.
Meera; dadima...I??
Dadima;dekho bete,please mana mat kara.
Meera; but dadima,you know we don't get along well.we tend to avoid each other whenever we meet.toh phir hum kaise...
Dadima ; i know bete...but with time everything changes.Even u are ambitious like Maan.and i am sure you both will turn out to be great friends.
"dadima sahi kehe rahi hai Meera" said her dad as he ushered in the room "Anyways, you were planning to go to London,weren't you? so why not go with Maan.hume bhi tumhari kam chinta hogi."
Meera ; does Maan know about it?
Dad; he does.we had talked to him in the morning.he has no qualms.
Meera; (turning towards dadi) dadima,i need time to think over it.it's a big decision for me as i had not thought of going abroad soon after 12th.
Dadima;ok,meera.hope your answer is positive.
Meera nodded.there was a big limo waiting for dadima outside.A bodygaurd opened the door of the car for her and she sat in.The car drove away leaving Meera perplexed.
It was late in the evening.Geet doubted whether Maan would still be in the class.she went upstairs hurriedly.To her relief,she saw Maan in the class completing his notes all alone.She was scared but she knew she had to say it.
She went inside.
Geet; Ma--an
Maan looked up and saw Geet standing in front of him.he did not answer but continued his work.Geet felt more nervous.
"Maan,i...want to talk to you."
There was silence.Maan made no reply.Geet continued.
"Actually,i wanted to tell you something long ago...but couldn't figure out how. I wanted to---- "
She was interrupted in between.Maan got up and glared at geet.
"Listen GEET! stop it! i am not at all interested to talk to you.why can't you understand?just leave me alone.i don't understand why you want to forcefully talk to me always.Because of you people are talking about us but you don't seem to have any sense.but atleast think about me!.everytime my name is joined wih you, and i hate it to the core!we can never become friends!"
saying this he started to go.Geet stood there stunned.she didn't know what to say.While going.
" Ms Handa,Make sure that this is the last talk we are having.Our routes are different.so it would be better if u go your way and i go mine".
He went.Geet was glued to the ground.she didn't know how to react.her dreams had been crushed.In all these months,she had been in dreamland and then suddenly she was there facing the dark reality.her heart cried.for the first time,she had felt something for someone,and that person did not even consider her.
the sun had set.It was dark.She wondered how will days be from tomorrow.All was over.the glass of illusion had broken into pieces.She wanted to forget everything about that day,about Maan.but she doubted whether she will be successful.Then she thought that time heals everything...and she will be fine soon...
Meera tried to call Geet but her cell was switched off.she knew what the matter was.jiska dar tha wahi hua...now how will she face Geet the next day.
The next morning dawned as usual.Geet's eyes were still red.she had been crying the previous night.Maan's rudeness was yet to soak in her heart.she saw Yash standing by the door but he had a serious look on his face.
Geet ; yash I...
Yash; Geet,please listen to me.I don't know what has happened to you.perhaps...i know but i won't force you to tell me if you don't want to.yestarday your face was expressionless as if you were in for a rude shock.
Geet; there nothing like that bhai...
Yash; please don't lie to me.i just want to say that.this is not the end of everything.you have a long way to go..if you really love someone,then the person will surely come to you.time heals everything...but you have to have trust and faith (pauses).Anyways,Meera is waiting for you in the hall n don't worry i will not be there to hear your conversation..
Geet felt better.she knew that this was not the end.she wanted someone to say that to her n yash did so.Calm n composed she went to meet Meera.when she saw Geet,she didn't know from where to start n where to end.
Geet; hello...Meera.
Meera; hi...
they stood there looking at each other.then Meera said,
"I am really sorry Geet.it's all because of me.if i hadn't prompted then..."
"no Meera,why are you saying sorry. Because of you atleast i faced reality.otherwise i would have continued making castles in the air."
"I wanted to tell you something..."
"yes tell na"
"Maan is going to London for higher studies after our finals and..."
Geet digested the words as they came.So Maan was going away.with a heavy voice she said,
"and...?"
"and his dadima told me to accompany him..."
There was again a deep silence.
"So...what's your decision?"
"I don't know.i just don't know."
"Meera! what do you mean by 'i don't know'.it's such a wonderful opportunity!.you surely must go.any fool will only let go of this chance."
"so u don't have any objections?"
"why would i have any problems?Time heals everything...and m sure you and Maan will turn out to be great friends"
Meera was surprised.she had never expected such an answer from Geet.anyways she was relieved from a burden.
The two months passed like two days.there were hurried preparations for the finals.Geet refrained from attending college.She tried her best to forget Maan and concentrate on her studies.To some extent she did succeed, but still maan will surely occupy even a small corner in her heart,she thought.
Maan,on the other hand was wondering that so much over-reaction was not at all necessary.He couldn't understand why he over did it.The gossips had died down.That was all he wanted but somewhere he felt the need to apologise.the thought of Geet trickled him sometimes,
The final day had arrived.Maan was declared the topper followed by Meera n then by Geet.it was also the day of Meera and Maan's departure.Meera had come to pay a last visit to Geet.
Meera ; Geet...
Geet;(controlling her tears) hey Meera,why are you here.you should be packing your bags.
Meera; you were the best friend i have ever had.it feels really queer to think that tommorrow i won't see you.the decision was taken in such a jiffy that i couldn't sit back and think.
Geet; Are u planning to make me cry?go away otherwise u have to run with buckets for me.I hate these emotional moments! and one thing you make clear,we will meet again,understand? now GO!.
Meera had nothing else to say.with a big hug they parted.Meera started to go when geet said to her,
"Meera,there's a request.Please don't tell Maan anything about my feelings."
Meera kept silent.they had nothing else to say.Waving at Geet,Meera had departed.
AT the Airport-
Dadi ; Meera,Maan take care of your self.All the best to both of you.aur haan,wahan pahuchte he,hume call zaroor karna.
Maan was happy that finally he was going to London.though he planned going alone,still it was fine.
As expected his Dad didn't turn up.
The announcements were being made.The plane was about to take off.And then unexpectedly the tthought of Geet crossed Maan's mind.He was a little shaken by it.Why on earth did he think of Geet at this minute?.He softly mumbled her name which was surely heard by Meera.
Meera; Any problem,Maan?
Maan; No Problem.
He said firmly and the plane took off...
