Sorry for the late update.

PART 12

Khushi woke up to find Arnav tucked besides her in her bed in her house and her brain went into overdrive.

"Hai Devi Mayyaa...yeh yaha Kya kar rahe hai? Arnavji..." she shrieked shaking him failing to notice the tired look on his face, the peaceful slumber he was in or the fact that her right hand was entwined with his left.

"What the... Khushi??"
Arnav said startled by the sudden commotion.

"What is wrong?"

"Hai DM... Wrong!!! You are in my room, in my bed and you were here all night? what if someone saw us? Jiji... where is Jiji?"

"Khushi..." he groaned.

"Relax. Don't worry Payal knows, she had called me. Get ready. We are going to the doctor."

"Doctor? Why? I don't want to go to any doctor. I am perfectly fine."

"Khushi don't argue. I will be back in an hour."

Arnav had grabbed meager hours of sleep afraid more than ever, listening to Khushi's constant sleep talk
.

"Its to dark... I cant find my way."

"Arnavji"

"my hand hurts. Arnavji..."

Sometime in between she would sob, call out to her Jiji, her amma and babuji and all this while he held her, comforting her.

With each passing hour her chatter decreased and he assumed she fell into sleep till a few words she uttered made his heart sink.

"Amma, Babuji..." the way she said it was different. Her voice had barely contained yearning, the tone he associated with her birth parents.

"Dont leave me again. I will come with you."

"Please take me with you. I can't live without you."

These simple words made his stomach knot and a pain unbearable shot in his heart. No! He though, she was going nowhere and his breathing became labored. He remembered drawing long breaths like the air surrounding him had turned gel. He clutched her hands in a fierce grip and brought her palm to his heart as if to warm his heart. He needed reassurance that she was there with him as few tears escaped his eyes as he clutched her hand desperately.

"Amma, he is very good. He takes care of me. Arnavji."

That had his heart beating erratically. She dreamt of him, that alleviated his sullen mood.

After that she fell asleep and he watched her face till dreams overtook him aswell.

Khushi stood outside the door to the doctor's cabin pouting adorably as Arnav had a talk with him privately.

"Stupid Laad Governor" she muttered impatiently.

At that point of time a boy ran upto her, tugged at her dupatta and smiled. He must have been four or five years old, angelic, with a lovely smile and naughtiness etched in his face.

Khushi picked him up and made funny faces at him, playing with him unaware of Arnav who stood at the door watching her with an amused look. Khushi twirled the boy around making him giggle and laughing with him.

As he gazed fondly at Khushi and the boy he had an epiphany. The scene was just right. He saw a vision of his family. A future life that he had resisted for so long. A warmth rose in his heart to imagine a similar setting but more personal, maybe with his baby, their baby. A silent tear made down his cheek, it was time to start reliving his life. He smiled as he moved forward to embrace his life.

Arnav rushed to her to steady the pair as Khushi stumbled unsteady from all the spinning.

His hand went around Khushi's waist while the other around the boy, overlapping her hold on the child. His touch wrecked havoc on her senses and their eyes met creating a dream of being a family. They stared at each other oblivious of the world around them gazing fondly into each others eyes.

SMACK!!!!

Arnav felt his cheek sting as the boy slapped him. Hell, nobody slapped ASR and got away with it, Nobody! He glared at the child in Khushi's arms and Khushi giggled, as she recieved the usual ASR glare tucking the child out of harms way.

"Serves him right... khadoos laad governor. Dragging me to the doctor."

She felt like congratulating the kid on his conquest. After all, he had slapped LG nad got away with it. Laughter bubbled inside her but she was pulled back from her reverie by,

SMACK!!!

Her face flushed crimson. Sure it did not hurt but what the... Her eyes widened in response, ready to pop out any moment and the boy laughed. Khushi turned to glare at him and then at Arnav, who had doubled over in laughter.

She had an adorable pout on her face as she glared at the child and then at Arnav laughing.
The boy wriggled in Khushi's hands trying to jump out of Khushi's hands as he saw his mother running towards them. Khushi handed over the kid and continued to glare at Arnav who had an amused expression on his face.

"Lets go Khushi." suppressing laughter.

Getting into the car, Khushi was still dazed over what had happened. Hell, a five year old had slapped her out of a whim and instinctively she raised touched her cheek.

Arnav in a moment removed her hand and placed a soft kiss on her cheek and saw color rise to her cheeks. Her eyes popped in surprise and she felt goosebumps rise on her hands as a current ran down her spine.

Her reaction had Arnav fall again into peels of laughter and she silently reveled in his laughter. Happy to see him happy that he had been in years.

He picked up the phone as they made their way to RM and his face suddenly transformed. The happy smile was replaced with a hard set of his jaw and angry lines erupting on his brow as he heard the person on the other end.

"Hold him there." he barked into the phone and disconnected.

"Khushi I will drop you home. I have some urgent work" he added his voice still reflecting anger.

"Arnavji, is everything..."

"Yes, you don't worry." he interrupted her inquiry.

He stormed into his cabin and roughly settled himself in his chair before he barked into the intercom,

"Get him in."
He closed his eyes trying to gain composure before he met the good-for-nothing lawyer.

"Mr. Raizada..." Mr. Joshi's voice floated into his cabin.

"You are supposed to be the best lawyer. You are the one supposed to find a way." ASR started as the old lawyer seated himself opposite him.

"I am a lawyer. I cannot change the law or write one according to my client's convenience" he retorted.

"What is the problem?"

"We cannot detain him any longer without a trial. If the next date set is missed he will be granted bail."

"That cannot happen. He is mad."

"He may be but he is a lawyer and he knows the rules. He also knows how to pull the strings to suit himself."

"You are supposed to find a way. When is the next date?"

"I cannot. We had cited the Ms. Gupta's health and now she is fine. She has to be present in court. Her words and testimony is important. I would like to speak to her if possible."

"No, you cannot speak with her. She is not well and I cannot risk her life." A no argument tone in his voice.

"I need to explain to her the statement she needs to present."

"I need time."

"Try to pull strings money is no issue
."

"It is no possible to change dates like that now. Its on paper."

" Buy the judge
."

"She is too self righteous. If we even try that the case may tip in his favor and you may end up in jail or worse Ms. Gupta. For it is her case" he added at the confused look on his client's face.

"Shit" he never lost composure but he was desperate. Everything was moving against him. After last night he knew the pain was more than just bruises and he could not stand to see her like that. The problem was the courts did not account for emotions. Physically and in a way mentally she was fine.

"Fine. How many days do I have to the maximum?"

"Twenty."

"What about the bas***d signing the divorce papers?" the lawyer just shook his head in a negative.

"Make him sign it."

"Your civil lawyer will look into it. Also, I will require the Ms. Gupta's medical report. It needs to be submitted in court."

"Fine, I will have it sent to your office. Try to get as much time as possible."

The old lawyer just shook his head and left.

He recollected the conversation he had with the doctor just a few hours ago.

He never dwelt on Shyam and tried to avoid the topic or topics even remotely associated with that topic after the new years night. The ease with which Khushi had settled back into her life had amazed him, she was strong he had said to himself but he never considered the fact that she was hiding her pain to keep everyone happy.

"Mr. Raizada, this is generally associated with patients suffering accidents. It will take time but she will be fine."

"She barely remembers anything? I don't understand? How is that possible?
"

"Her brain has tried to protect itself from the trauma. It had pieced yesterday's memory incorrectly to provide itself a buffer. It is best left that way."

"Don't try to make her remember. It is the best. Keep her away from the memories as much as you can. I don't know what can trigger it again. The brain cannot heal all the time. If it does not, she may run into a depression."

"She is strong and her will to live will keep her happy. Don't worry."

He nodded, thanked the Dr. and decided to leave.

"Keep her happy. Laughter is the best medicine. Trust me, I am a Dr."

He paced around in his cabin trying to find a common ground, keeping both ends of the bargain, Khushi safe and happy.

He called in the one person who was better than him at this.

"Akash, where are you?"

"Bhai, I am just entering office. Any problem?"

"Come to my office now."

Akash knew about him and Khushi, actually everyone did because of his not so subtle Di and he knew about last night because of Payal.

He explained the whole situation to Akash and waited for him to form a solution. For Arnav, strategic planning and business ventures were a cake walk but when it came down to emotional equations he failed at it miserably.

Akash with his calm and rational persona was a better judge of the situation. His insights into a person's mind and his emotional quotient helped Arnav.
Every emotion in Arnav was exaggerated be it anger, passion or love and thus he required a more level headed person to form an answer to this situation.

"Bhai" he said, a little dramatically unsure or how his solution would be received.

"We only have fifteen days. We require five days to prepare Khushiji for the situation. I think this is the best solution. Don't get me wrong."

He explained his point and waited with each sentence he spoke forth for a bashing at the least but it never came.

Arnav sat in silence after his answer contemplating and said "I guess what you are suggesting is correct."

"Bhai this is Khushiji we are talking about, give her a ray of light and she will cherish it like the sun. She will be fine."

"And we are always there for you and her. Payalji, Di and I. She is family to us for she could do something none of us could. She made you happy" he added to Arnav.

"But Di?" he asked Akash his heart sinking at what she would have to witness.

"She needs to see it happen to believe in it. She is your sister, she is strong. She knows about the case, the possible verdict and she accepts it."

"You know Bhai, your decision will make them both very happy." Akash concluded as he left Arnav to his thoughts.

Arnav picked up his car keys and strode out of his office with a determination, if he was going to do it, it had to be perfect.

Excuse me for all the mistakes and the late update I am overworked.
comment if you have the time.
