A Maaneet Tale
Saviour
16 August 2004 (Continued)
I covered my eyes with the back of my hand, the bright fire blinding me. I was pinned against the shelf, barely escaping the wrath of the fire.
I could hear Sasha laugh before she walked off, and I knew there was no chance of me coming out unless someone or something miraculously saved me from this hell.
Looking around for some escape, I found nothing. Everything was on fire and I was trapped. Eventually, it got hard for me to breath so I covered my mouth with my veil and concentrated.
Okay, there had to be SOME sort of way out of this. Baabaji didn't put me in this situation for nothing.
Unfortunately, I found nothing. I concentrated so hard, my head started to hurt; and I could no longer breath. I slithered down a wall in the corner and hid my head in my knees.
I started to think of Maan. Maan's rare smile, his twinkling eyes, his perfect hair, his naughty smirk, and our memories.
Maan: "Geet! Just hold on" his voice suddenly appeared out of nowhere. I looked up, relief shivering through my body. I still had a chance to get out of here.
I closed my eyes and hid my head in my knees again as foamy water was being poured towards me. I curled my fists into balls, trying to stop them from shaking. Eventually when I looked up, the whole place was burnt and cloudy from the foamy water.
Maan was standing there with a fire extinguisher in his hand. I grin formed on my face as I ran off to hug him.
Maan: "Geet, are you okay? What hap -- Oh God Damn" he said and threw my veil away from my neck. I was confused at why he done this until I saw my veil was on fire.
"Maan, oh i'm so glad to see you!" I said, squeezing him so hard I was afraid he couldn't breath. I cried in his chest and enhaled his sweet, comforting perfume.
Maan: "What happened? I know somebody done this" he said, anger flashing in his eyes.
"She... She... S-Spilt kerosene in the pantry and I-I was trapped..." I said between sobs and stutters. My knees were wobbly and I could hardly stand.
"I-I can't... Stand" I stuttered, feeling light-headed. Suddenly, the world around me spun and I gave up, falling to the ground.
Except I didn't because Maan had caught me in his arms. I blinked, trying to get the dancing stars and spots that were blocking my vision to go away.
"Maan" I whispered
Maan: "I'm right here. Just relax. Close your eyes" he said
And I did. I must have passed out because two seconds later I was lying on a couch. I didn't know where I was.
I coughed and slowly opened my eyes. I was still in the office, but instead I was lying on a couch in the waiting room. I looked around the room, and saw a doctor leave.
Maan: "Are you okay? How are you feeling?" he asked, holding my hand. I felt my neck with my other hand, feeling concious.
Maan: "It's just me in the room" he said
I stared at Maan's face, admiring his beautiful brown eyes. He looked back at me with just as admiration. Suddenly, all I wanted to do was hug him and stay in that position forever. He read my mind as usual and wrapped me in his arms.
"Can you read minds?" I teased
Maan: "No, why?" he asked
I blushed and said nothing, just hugging him to myself.
Maan: "Who done this? And don't you dare lie"
I stayed silent and considered. Hell, I might as well tell him. I didn't care what Sasha thought anymore.
"It was Sasha" I said
Maan leaned back and stared at my face in shock.
Maan: "Why did she --"
"She likes you a lot" I said
Maan: "Every girl in Delhi does" he said, his lips curling into a smirk.
"Not me" I teased
Maan: "That offended me"
"Anyway, she likes you a lot and didn't want me near you. So to get rid of me, she set the pantry on fire" I said
Maan: "Sasha needs to get a life. I've never liked her. Not even for a second. I'm going to fire her anyway" he said
I was happy that Maan didn't like Sasha in anyway. I wanted him all to myself.
Maan: "You burnt your hand" he pointed out, still holding my hand. I looked down to my hand and suddenly, a stinging pain shot through it.
"I didn't realise" I frowned
Maan: "Don't worry. It's just a little. Not much damage, it will heal soon"
"Okay... Thank you. For saving me"
Maan didn't say anything, but smiled.
"Where is everyone?" I asked
Maan: "Home. It's 6:47pm" he said, looking at his watch.
"I was passed out for so long" I gasped
Maan: "Yep. I'll deal with Sasha tomorrow" anger flashing in his eyes but vanishing just as quick as it came.
I decided to sit up, feeling awkward just lying there in front of Maan.
"Tell me more about yourself" I asked, suddenly wanting to know a little bit more about his past. Maan was surprised but answered the question anyway, surprising me in return.
Maan: "Um... Your my first friend" he blushed and looked away. God, he looked so cute blushing.
"Your my first friend too" I said softly. He looked at me again, surprised this time.
"I was the girl who didn't fit in at school. I was bullied a lot" I said, staring at my bandaged hand.
Maan: "Screw the people who bullied you" he said, putting an arm around my shoulder and pressing me to himself.
After a while, Maan decided we should go home and I stood up and started to walk towards the exit when Maan called out my name. He held something out to me.
Maan: "I found this in the pantry" he said, my ankle bracelet in his hand. I looked down at my foot and realised it really was missing. I took it from him.
"Thank you" I said and bent down to clip it but realised I couldn't since my hand was bandaged. Maan bent down next to me and took the bracelet from my hand.
Maan: "I'll put it on" he said, and he did. I stared at Maan as he did.
I couldn't take this anymore. The intimate scene in the room had NO affect on him. I wanted him to kiss me. I wanted him to touch me. I wanted him to --
Maan: "Geet?" I looked up at him. He was standing already and I was lost in my thoughts. I cleared my throat and stood up.
"Sorry, let's go" I said and followed him as he led the way out. He stopped abruptly and turned to tell me something.
Maan: "I left my phone in my cabin. I'll be right back" he said and left me standing there. I leaned against the wall, waiting for him and wondered what he was doing after 5 minutes of standing alone.
I made my way to his cabin and found out he was talking to someone. I realized this 'someone' was Sasha.
Maan: "Look Sasha, you need to leave me alone. I don't like you in anyway whatsoever. Your fired, by the way"
Sasha: "But... But I love you. So much, please..." she said between sobs.
Boy, it must hurt to be rejected by the Prince.
Maan: "Don't give me those crocodile tears, for goodness sake"
Sasha: "Are you rejecting me just because of Geet? So you like that little filthy --"
Maan slapped her.
Maan: "You dare call her that again, I swear i'll kill you right here. Just get out!"
Sasha: "No MK. I'm not leaving till you answer my question. Who is it that you like so much that your rejecting ME?" she pointed at her chest.
Maan: "That's none of your business" he said
Sasha: "Yes it is"
Maan closed his eyes in annoyance and sighed.
Sasha: "You like Geet don't you?"
Maan: "Can you get out of my office?"
Sasha: "Answer my question then"
Maan: "Or i'll throw you out the window"
Sasha considered her options and then decided to leave. I was about to hide but she had already seen me.
Sasha: "This is all your fault. Bloody hell, I wonder what Maan sees in you"
And with that, she left.
