RAICHAND MANSION:

The Raichand family was gathered around the fireplace.

Haseena: It is the golden jubilee of St.Mary's school, Abhay. I heard the ex-students have all decided to put up a small programme. Chand and I have both felt that it would be better if u joined them and-

Abhay (interrupting in a hard voice) - I am not one of them. I am not an ex-student either. I am not going.

Chand (moving in front of Abhay) - I suggest you go, Abhay.(his eyes boring into Abhay's)- We are the new trustees there and it will be nice if-

"You go and join, if u r so eager!"

Chand (his voice low and dangerous) - U look their age, so u r joining them and that is final. (looks at the giant clock on the mantelpiece)- I suggest u go there now, Abhay.

Abhay glared back at Chand, shot an angry look at Haseena and rushed out.

Hassena (sighing) - What's the matter with him?

Chand (with a frown) - I can sense a change in him Haseena. A change in his emotions.

Haseena (alarmed) - does this have to do with-?

Chand- I can't tell now. I must wait till it gets a little clearer. Meanwhile, Haseena, I thought that we must arrange a party. Invite all the big families.

Haseena nodded- That's a good idea.

Chand- This Friday we will keep the party. I will tell Abhay when he comes back.

ST. MARY'S SCHOOL:

"This is the last week of the summer vacations. We will clean and decorate the whole school by this Friday. Next week, the school resumes. In that week, we will practice all the dances, songs, speeches etc. It will be the gift of us, the ex-students, to this wonderful school!"- A chorus of cheers drowned Kabir's voice. He raised his voice. "Mish and I will be in charge. However we will take suggestions from everyone! This Saturday, we will gather at my place to discuss about the dances and songs. Okay, buddies?" Everyone cheered and clapped. Kabir grinned. "Okay then, we will start with cleaning out the hall and-"

Kabir abruptly broke off, staring at the entrance gates of the school. Everyone turned around and watched as a gleaming black car slid majestically through the gates and stopped. The door opened and out stepped Abhay. Piya felt herself pulled towards him again, those deep ice-blue eyes calling her, beckoning her'

As he walked towards the dazed crowd, their eyes met. His eyes seemed to pierce right through her , as if they were X-raying her. She could see nothing but him. Then his lips curved into a sarcastic smile , and she remembered how he had said the previous night "Its rude to stare." She jerked her head away, blushing, feeling upset. Why did that arrogant jerk with his infuriating handsome face affect her so much? The only things he had ever said to her had been rude worlds, meant to embarrass. Then? What was the matter with her?

Abhay walked up to Kabir- I am here to help U guys.With the programme.

Kabir raised his eyebrows- Sorry dude, but this is for ex-students only. As u r not an ex-student-

Abhay stepped closer to him, cutting him short-I am perfectly aware of that, Kabir Singh Rathore. Believe me; I don't have the slightest wish to join u or ur loser friends. My parents want me-

"Mama and Papa's good boy, aren't u, Abhay?" Kabir whispered. "They tell u to dance, U dance. They tell u to-"

The glint in Abhay's eyes stopped him- I am not wasting my time listening to ur lectures, boy. My father called the Principal and he granted permission. Or have u become the Principal these days?

Kabir stayed silent, glaring at Abhay. Abhay smirked and turned to face the crowd- Well, that's all settled, then. I am joining u all.

WEDNESDAY:

It was cool and dark as Piya entered the church. The sun had almost set. The church was empty. Piya went to the front, lit a candle and kneeled down in front of Jesus, closing her eyes in prayer.

Keep her safe, lord. Keep mom safe.Keep her happy.

It was on this very day,on a distant summer evening fourteen years ago, that her mother had been killed. The murderer had wanted to kill her as well. But her mother had forced her to stay hidden in the attic cupboard. The murderer , not finding out Piya had set their house on fire. Piya had narrowly escaped. But the horrors of that day still haunted her. She could still remember her mother's slit throat, the laugh of the murderer, the heat of the blazing flames, her own cries.

Piya felt tears sliding down her cheeks as she remembered all the good times her mother had spent with her together. Piya had never known her father, nor seen any picture of him. He had left them when she was three, abandoned them forever.

The street was empty, deserted. Piya walked quickly, her mind still far away, thinking of her mother. Suddenly, she heard a sound behind her and turned. Nothing. Must be her imagination. Nevertheless, she quickened her pace,turning back every now and then.

" In a hurry, sweetypie?" the voice came from the shadows. Before Piya could turn to see who had spoken, a strong hand clamped over her mouth and pinned her against a tree. Piya struggled, fear andterror starting to paralyze her. He banged her against the tree now and she could feel her forehead cut,though she understood it was not bleeding. Her cry of pain was stifled by his strong hand.

He inched his face closer and Piya could see him faintly in the moonlight-a hard face, brown, frenzied eyes, thin lips and untidy hair.

He spoke in a growling voice and she closed her eyes- U look beautiful. The fire must have burned away ur ugliness. He laughed, an animal like, high pitched laugh and suddenly Piya knew who he was. With renewed terror coursing through her body, she tried to break free.

" Has anyone ever taught u to mind ur own business?" The sound opened Piya's eyes in shock. Abhay!

The next moment, Piya felt the man's hands move away from her mouth. She was pulled into Abhay's arms. Over his shoulders she saw the man hit a tree on the opposite side and slide down onto the ground,unmoving. She started to cry.

" Shh! Its okay! It's okay." Abhay moved his hands around Piya and hugged her tighly. He did not know what to do. She seemed broken. Piya clutched him tightly, burying her face in his chest.

" A-a-abhay.He was the o-one. He k-killed M-mama. H-he tried t-to k-kill me A-abhay!"

Abhay was shocked to hear this. The Jaiswals were not Piya's own parents? He felt even more intensely, the need to protect her. He hugged her tighter, going against his instincts which were shouting No Abhay! U cannot get involved with her! At that moment, he listened to what his heart was saying. And the heart wanted to comfort the broken girl, to share her grief, to ease her sorrow. So he held her, caressing her soft hair, rocking her gently, as she cried her heart out on his chest. He held her silently, striken by the grief her heart held and then when she had calmed down, he took her home.

PRECAP: Maithili is furious when shen she comes to know that it was Abhay who saved Piya. Another Abhiya scene. Piya hears Maithili's name and is determined to find out about her. She is sure that she has heard the name somewhere.
