Chapter-3

A proposal

Geet looked above at the night sky which looked so beautiful.The jet-black background and the numerous stars-some large,some small-twinkling in all their glory.

And the full moon in the middle of everything made the view all the more beautiful.

She was standing on her balcony,smiling unknowingly as the wind made her thick,wavy hair blow.

For the first time in these eighteen years,she have felt so happy and contented.Her birthday celebration,her dad being so loving,being the center of attraction and last but not the least meeting Veer.

She blushed every time she thought about him...for the first time thinking so much about a man.

Her chain of thoughts broke as she felt a tap on her shoulder.She turned to her side and saw her bhaaisaa smiling warmly at her.

''I saw the door open so thought of sneaking in...and then saw you standing here while the lights are off.''

''I'm not feeling like sleeping right now'' she replied looking downwards.

''You didn't ask what I've bought for you?''

Geet nodded in negative-she never asked for anything from anyone even on her birthdays but Arjun as he has spoiled her with this habit of asking for a gift on Raksha Bandhan,Holi,Diwali or any other occasion-Arjun would even go to the extent of lying to his parents about his pocket money being stolen as he knew his parents wouldn't say a no to him and he would save that amount of money to secretly buy pricey gifts for his princess.

''Sorry'' geet said in a low,baby-like voice.

''Hey come on Geet...what's there to apologize? It's not a crime to forget to ask for a gift.''

''Anyways...see what I've got for you'' Arjun said while bringing one of his hand's in front of her from his back which was holding a beautifully decorated basket.

Geet looked at it closely and saw two tiny pups,about a month old,sleeping peacefully all cuddled up.

''Wow bhaaisaa...they are so cute'' Geet exclaimed but kept her voice low so that they don't wake up.

''Well...uh...Geet...ummm...I...I wanted to ask something'' Arjun stuttered.

''What is it bhaaisaa?'' Geet was a bit surprised as she have hardly seen him stutter.

''What...what exactly do you think about Veer?''

Geet thought she was caught whereas Arjun had something else in his mind.

She turned the other side holding the basket ''wh...why bhaaisaa?Is there anything wrong with him?'' It was her turn to stutter even though she was curious to know what her beloved bhaaisaa thought about him.

''Look geet,I prefer talking straight rather than creating riddles...the thing is that Dadasaa and Babasaa are planning to get you married off to this man-Veer...I haven't got a chance to talk to him or even meet him properly,but I've seen you two engaged in a conversation so I thought of asking you'' Arjun stated.

''Bhaaisaa...I...'' Geet tried to say something but was cut midway by Arjun.

''Geet you know me very well,you just have to order and I shall bring the best of men at your doorsteps...and that is why I won't let anyone else take decisions concerning you-even if they are our elders-they cannot be right always.''

Geet's eyes got moist as she was overwhelmed with the kind of love and protectiveness her Bhaaisaa has for her.

''Bhaaisaa...if you don't approve someone, I shall never even think about the person-let alone marry him...if you don't like Veer...''

''No my princess'' Arjun said while cupping her face ''I didn't say that...I just wanted to know if you like Veer or not.''

Geet again lowered her lashes and slowly looked away with a small smile on her face which didn't went unnoticed by Arjun.

''I got my answer'' he gave her a knowing smile and left wishing her a good night.

Maan reached Bikaner around 10 in the morning as he started at 3 in the night.

He stopped his jeep at the side of a busy market-place and looked here and there,trying to find someone who looked literate enough to read a given address.But to his luck the marketplace was brimming with local people or villagers-all in their trademark Rajasthani get-ups-women wearing Ghagra-choli or sarees with their heads covered with the pallu of the sari,men wearing turbans and adorning different styles of .moustaches.

Then he finally saw a couple-most probably Caucasian as their accent suggested-taking photographs of the place.

He was not sure whether to ask them or not as he didn't know if a foreigner would be educated about the existing roads and lanes of a place like Bikaner.

It was then when a man came up to them telling them something.Maan saw the batch on the person breast-pocket and he felt relieved as he knew this person was a guide of some reputed travel agency.

''Mr Vansh Singh Shekawat?'' Maan asked as he looked at the man approaching him with a questioning gaze.

''Yes...and you are...''

''Maan Singh Khurana'' Maan replied in his trademark arrogant style of taking his name while his head held high.

They both shook hands and Vansh asked him to take a seat.

''So Mr Khurana,what makes you come here all the way from Delhi?''

''Nothing else but business'' Maan stated coldly.Vansh nodded.

''If I'm not wrong,for the last few months,managers,architects even builders are coming to us for the land issue...and now it's you-their boss'' Vansh said in a slightly rhetorical tone.

Maan clenched his jaw but the wise businessman inside him abstained him to say or do something.He composed himself immediately and replied ''Mr Shekhawat...it is a matter of 22 acres of land,a couple of crores per acre...so I had to come.''

''Really sorry Mr Khurana that I'm making a busy businessman like you intervene in these matters,but if I would have to sell it to you I would have said yes to your employees itself.''

''This means you are not willing to sell it off at any cost'' Maan was raged beyond doubts now.

The moment Vansh heard the word ''any'',his as-fast-as-lightning brains quickly though of something and he said ''I think I will...if you agree for something.''

''What'' Maan replied coldly-he hated the word ''condition'',but unfortunately his hands were tied this time.

''Marriage'' Vansh announced crossing his arms over his chest.

Maan snapped his head at Vansh's direction ''excuse me.''

''You'll have to marry my sister-Geet.''

If Maan had a chance,he would have made him pay for speaking like this to The Maan Singh Khurana...he couldn't believe he was ordering him to get married!

Vansh went inside a room for a while and came back with an envelope.

''What is this?'' Maan asked whilst glancing at the white envelope.

''Her photograph'' he gave a smile and hand it over to maan ''you don't need to decide anything in a haste.Take your time,think about it and then tell me what you've decided.Any which ways the land is under her name and if she marries someone,the land will automatically get transferred in the name of her husband along with other properties which is under her name...which means you will be a gainer in this pact in both ways.''

''And geet...what about her...what if she opposes to this alliance?'' Maan questioned unsure of the proposal thrown towards him.

''Don't worry about that Mr Khurana...she might have opposed if she had anyone else in her life...if she would have said so I would have never came up with this proposal'' Vansh chose his words carefully as he knew this is not a person who would like to hear that girls in these families don't have the right to speak or it's their families who have the final say...he knew a man like Maan would never approve of an enforced marriage even if it means business.

''Hmmm...I'll think about it'' Maan said.

Vansh felt relieved as he knew he'll not only think about it...he will definitely say yes.

''But you've to do something Mr Khurana.''

''What do you want me to do?''




He gave a small smile and answered ''wait for one-and-a-half month.''




''Excuse me'',Maan was now pissed with this man.




''Mr Khurana, there are a few things to be done before I would be able to hand over our land to you...I'm just asking you to wait.''




''Why not now?'' Maan grew suspicious.




Vansh turned around and gave an evil smile ''Just a few things which needed to be sorted out.''

Maan threw the envelope on the bed and landed himself there with a thud.Never in his life he has felt so helpless...and he loathed this feeling.And all this for a precious land.

He was even ready to give double the amount as he cared less about money and wanted the land badly...and here he have to marry the owner of the land-an eighteen year-old girl!

It was no less than being asked to climb Mt Everest...even that seemed easy compared to this.

It's not that he hated women...but didn't love them either...he has always maintained a dignified distance with the opposite sex for which he have also garnered a plethora of names for himself like ice-cold,sadoo,khadus even gay!

Suddenly his thoughts started to surround this girl named geet.He wondered how does she looks like?

If he have to go by the theory of genes,then he knew he was committing ''partial suicide.'' But what if she doesn't look like her brother? What if she's...

Maan slowly picked up the envelope and took out the photograph.

His heart skipped a few beats as he looked at the face in the photograph.

Beautiful would be an understatement to describe her...she looked out of the world.

She wore a flesh-coloured salwar kameez with her wavy hair open and a small yet heavenly smile lighting up her bow-shaped lips and making those pools of amber of her eyes twinkle.

''Angel'' he whispered unconsciously.

Precap #1-''You want me to what?'' Mr Singhania almost yelled.

''Name the land under Geet's name after her marriage'' Vansh said with all his politeness.
