Part:13

PAST

Geet thought she could die out of embarrassment. She has promised her mother that she would invite Maan to their home for dinner. But his refusal was like a punch in her gut. She reprimanded herself for having the audacity to even think Maan Singh Khurana would be interested in meeting her. Shock, refusal and disappointment filled her to the core. But the emotion that overshadowed all was anger.

How dare he?

Yes he was HIM, but that does not take away what she is.

She promised herself not to think about that man. Yes he helped her, he has saved her life, but that does put him in a position to insult her and dismiss her as non-existent.

Fine, if he did not want to meet her or acknowledge her. She would neither.

Cursing the man under her breath, the moment she was about to exit the Khurana compound, she was forcefully pulled back and all her resolutions went down the drain because she knew from the very familiar touch----it was HIM.

Maan ran out of his cabin like a mad man. The only thought that crossed his mind was she came for him. She hasn't forgotten him. She has spent moments of her life thinking about meeting him. It was enough for him to be insanely happy and satisfied. But suddenly it struck him like a pile of bricks, what has he done instead? He has refused to meet her. He has dismissed her as if she was anybody else. He knew she must have heard his outburst over the phone. Yes he didn't know it was her, but that does not take away the fact that he must have hurt her, disappointed her.

He barged into the reception to yell at his almost'fainted-out-of-fear receptionist.

"Where is she?", he barked.

"Si-i-i-r-r-r, she has just left."

"Couldn't you tell me who it was before your useless talks?"

"I am s-o-o-r-r-r-y-y Sir-r-r, but--"

"Now listen to me very carefully", this time his voice merely a whisper, "if she leaves this office before I find her, you wouldn't even know what hit you, understood"

Saying this he strode out of the office leaving a trembling receptionist.

He looked for her everywhere but she was not to be found. The moment he was about to scream out of frustration, he saw her.

She was muttering something which he was sure she was cursing him. A faint smile touched his lips seeing her antics, but the moment he saw her taking a turn and disappearing out of his sight, she dashed after her and hauled her by her elbow into his arms, he felt Home.

None said a word and kept staring at each other. Time froze for them. But of course, as all good things are short-lived, they were brought out of their trance by honking cars. Just then Geet realized she was in the middle of a road, in broad day light, hugging a man on whom she is angry, no cut that, furious.

She struggled out of his grip and made a face. He thought he could eat her up. But his brain advised "to take it slow and steady".

So this time he cleared his throat and gain attention,

"Woh''are you by any chance angry Geet?"

Oh so he remembers my name, she thought, but still kept quiet.

"Now how would I know it was you?"

Geet raised her eyebrows indicating a "oh really?!!!!"

"You heard what the receptionist said, she never mentioned your name."

He couldn't believe it was him. Standing at the base of his own office and explaining himself to a pouting girl. But the small smile that now crept on her lips was all worth the hard work.

"Wont you talk to me, Geet?"

She could not fake her anger anymore. So this time she turned to him and gave him a bright smile.

Oh what would he not give to see that smile every living moment of his life, he thought.

"Come in", he said as they stepped into his cabin.

"I am sorry Maan, I know I should have taken an appointment, I mean you are busy and all."

"Well, these are not the words I expected from a beautiful girl who I just invited to my cabin, you hurt me Geet."

Geet opened her mouth to a perfect O at his comment.

"Well in that case Mr.Khurana I must say you have a great taste. Everything is good in this cabin."

She realized Maan looked at her moments longer than necessary and finally added in a voice that gave her goosebumps,

"Yes Geet, I indeed have a great taste, and if I may add, I never have good, I always settle for the best."

The underlying meaning of his words resulted in an uncomfortable silence. So finally Geet spoke,

"Actually Maan, I came here to invite you. I mean once my parents came to know how you helped me that day, they would like to thank you properly."

"But that won't be necessary Geet."

"But I want you to come", with that said she looked up to him with eyes full of expectations and so the only thing he could reply,

"I will be there."

PRESENT

Yash had to try every trick in the book to bring Meera back to senses, but was it worth it. Meera pounced on him and kissed him till they were breathless to express how happy she was. Yash made a mental note to thank Geet for being with his angry brother behind closed doors.

"So now what's the plan Yash", Meera rubbed her hands in glee.

"I would suggest lock them up forever in a room if this is the reward I am going to get out of it", Yash smiled foolishly indicating her long kiss.

"Shut up Yash, you are embarrassing me", said Meera blushing furiously.

"Ok, the thing is Bhai and Geet are not as unknown to each other as they pretend to be Meer'

"What do you mean?"

"See Meer, they know each other from before but we two specially me had no idea about it, how is it possible given the fact that one is my brother and the other is my best friend? Then Bhai was out of India for five long years Meer, which only means they know each other from much before. See in front of us they are civil with each other, but you found then in the wee hours of morning in the garden together, today I found them locked behind doors. Everything cannot be a coincidence Meer, there is much more to this than we know."

Meera was surprised seeing a new side of Yash, she has always seen him as the happy go lucky, care-a-damn kind of guy, but she felt she is discovering new sides to him and loving him more.

"So the intelligent khurana huh?", she teased him.

"Oh come on Meer, intelligence is in our blood, unlike a few."

He was back to being his natural self.

"So, what now?"

"Time to find out the truth Meer."

"And how?"

"I am going to Geet's house."
