Half Girlfriend: anyone watched it?
I apologize about the incredibly late update. Exams are coming to end and what better way to celebrate then with Maaneet :D Sorry again guys but I think you will enjoy this! Please ignore all mistakes, I'm in a bit of a hurry, exams remember? :)
"Oh hi Dadi." Maan said, disappointed.
"Not the person you wanted to see huh?" She said as she rinsed the dishes.
"No, no! It's not like that. I'm very happy to see you. See!" Maan smiled.
Dadi laughed. "That's not going to work on me Maan. I saw how your face was lit up when you walked into the kitchen. There's only one person in this world who can illuminate your face like that." She grabbed him by the cheeks with her soapy hands.
Maan grabbed a dish towel to wipe off the water. "Two people actually."
"Who's the second?"
Maan engulfed Dadi in a hug. "Thank you Beta but enough of all this and go tend to your wife."
Maan kissed her on the top of the head. "Where is she though?"
"Actually, I don't know. I know she's home but I've barely seen her all day." Dadi shrugged.
"Ok. I'll go find her." Maan ran up the stairs two by two while he losened his tie. He opened the door to their bedroom but found it empty. He checked the other rooms but she was no where to be found.
He walked back down the stairs and caught Dadi as she was leaving the kitchen. "Dadi, I can't find her."
They both heard an ear piercing scream from downstairs. They rushed to the basement to find Geet crawled up on the sofa with a blanket.
"NO WAY!" She shouted.
Maan stared at her, then the tv, and then back to Geet.
Dadi stood their appalled as well. She eventually got out of her shock and rushed to Geet's side on the couch. "Oh my lord."
Geet turned to Dadi and jumped up and down on the couch. "I KNOW! They were trying to save the poor couple but the police think its them who are the terrorists!"
They both watched the screen in horror while Maan just stood there, not sure of what to do.
They both gasped as the man on the tv fell backwards and hit his head on the glass table. The girl who just got shot fell down with him as well.
"Geet?" Maan called.
Geet waved her hand back without taking her eyes off the screen. "SHH!"
"Dadi?" Maan tried.
"Maan Bete PLEASE...not now!"
The man and woman were now on the floor now with their hands reaching out towards each other. Before their hands could meet, they seemed to have died. Or at least lost consciousness.
The scene now changed to another man and woman who were walking out of a room with lab coats. They were talking just as the man saw another woman down the hall. The woman announced she was the man's wife while Geet and Dadi gasped again. The show went to a commercial break and Dadi and Geet leaned back on the couch.
"Can someone tell me whats going on?" Maan asked between the girls' whispering.
"Apparently Armi and Ritz just died." Geet looked up and answered. "But Dadi doesn't believe that one bit, even though these new interns are coming into the show. Dadi heard from one of her friend's cousin's wife, who knows somebody who works at DMG, that Armi and Ritz will be back later in the show. I say its all a scam. They're not going to be back."
Maan stared at her.
"OH! And that woman that just came back is Abhi's WIFE! Can you believe that?!" Geet exclaimed. "Even when he's with NIKKI."
"Armi, Ritz, DMG, Abhi, Nikki? What is all this?" Maan asked.
"Here you two catch up, I'll head out and finish the rest of the chores before I go bed." Dadi got up.
"Thanks Dadi!" Geet gave her a hug. She patted the spot next to her and Maan sat down.
"So..Armi is Armaan, Ritz is Riddhima, Abhi is Abhimanyu and Nikki is Nikita. They're all doctors. The show is called DMG which stands for Dill Mill Gayye but there are these other characters too...like Anjali, Atul, Shubankar, Keerti, Rahul, MUSKAAN!...I LOVE MUSKAAN -"
"Geet? Your point?"
"Well she's so bubbly and you're never going to believe this - she's punjabi too! I KNOW! I was surprised too. She's so funny and always fighting with Rahul but then he left...then he came back...but then he left again..." Geet sighed. "It's complicated."
"No Geet, the point of the show." Maan looked at her.
"Well, all the main characters are doctors but they're good friends too! They weren't at first though...anyway, Armaan and Riddhima just died and these new interns are coming in. They don't look to be as promising as these doctors..." Geet sighed again. '"I'm going to miss Karan."
Geet looked up. "And the rest of the gang too!"
''Karan?"
"Karan Singh Grover."
Maan stared blankly at her.
"The guy who plays Armaan! Isn't he cute..."
"You're seriously asking me this question?"
Geet rolled her eyes. The commercial break and now ended and a new show had come on.
Maan got up. "Let's go up now Geet."
"Are you kidding me? MJHT just started! I CAN NOT miss this episode." Geet turned the volume up louder.
Maan snatched the remote away.
"HEY!" Geet got off the couch and stood on her toes so she was nose to nose with Maan.
"Give-me-back-the-remote." She said.
Maan glared into her eyes. "No."
"Fine." Geet said.
Geet tried to swipe the remote out of Maan's hands but he just held it above his head. Geet jumped up and down trying to get reach it. On one jump, she lost her footing and fell onto Maan. They both crashed into the couch.
They looked into each other's eyes but Geet's very quickly turned to stone. She reached for the remote again but Maan held it out away from her. Geet was sitting in his lap as she tried to bring his arm in.
"Give it back!" She whined. "We're going to miss the entire episode."
After a few minutes of struggling, Geet got tired. She retracted her arm and sat down, coincidently, into Maan's lap. She pouted.
Maan smirked.
"Don't you DARE smirk." Geet shot daggers at him.
She tried to get off of Maan's lap but he pulled her back in. Geet crossed her arms and he kissed her on the temple. Geet hit him and then hit him again. She started punch his chest furiously while Maan sat, expressionless.
She gave him one last punch with an ARGH! then relaxed.
Maan tilted his head so he could see her face. "All done?"
She punched his again with as much force as she could muster. "OWWW!" He shouted and rubbed his chest.
"Now I'm done." Geet smiled sweetly.
She got off his lap and went upstairs. Maan put the remote down, folded Geet's blanket and turned off all the lights and speakers before he followed.
He opened the door of their bedroom to see Geet packing clothes and talking on the phone.
"Yeah I know...I don't think so either. But you know what Dadi's friend's cousin's wife said, I've heard she's a pretty reliable source...ok. Ok, I'll be there in 10."
Geet hung up the phone and zipped up her suitcase. She stopped at the door to see Maan.
"You're leaving?! You're leaving because I took the remote away?!" Maan asked blocking the doorway.
"Um no...Pinky recorded the episode so I'm just going to watch it with her and stay there for the night...some people appreciate the great art called television shows."
Geet pushed him aside and yelled "Dadi!"
Geet walked into Dadi's room and as she was reading on the bed. "Yes Bete?" She looked down. "What's with the suitcase?"
"I'm just going to stay at Pinky's tonight. I'll be back before breakfast tomorrow since Pinky has to go work for a certain DICTATOR anyway." Geet yelled out the door.
"Sure Bete but does the dictator know?"
"Meh..."
"And he's actually going to let you go?"
"Actually he just got overthrown." Geet said seriously and looked out the door.
Dadi stiffled a laugh.
"Well okay Beta." She said smiling, still trying not to laugh. "Have fun!"
Geet hugged her tight. "Oh you don't worry, I will."
Geet was about to walk down the stairs when she remembered her toothbrush. She left her suitcase by the stairs and tip toed in to grab her toothbrush. She got it from the washroom and was a bit disappointed to see Maan already asleep.
She walked up to him as quietly as she could and kissed him on the forehead. She turned around and started walking when her dupatta tightened around her neck. She looked back.
"Dictator huh?" He propped his head up on the arm that held her dupatta.
Geet walked towards him. "Ish."
He balled her dupatta up and pulled it forwards, Geet fell on top of him as an effect. He pushed her hair back to clear her face. Geet closed her eyes, savoring the feeling of being in her husband's arms. When Maan leaned up to kiss her, she opened them and shoved him on to his back.
"You got overthrown remember?" She smirked triumphantly and flipped her hair back as she walked out the door.
Thanks for being so patient guys and I hope you enjoyed!"Geet, don't you think you're being a tad childish?"
"No."
Pinky sighed as she sat beside Geet on her bed. "You'll have to talk to him sooner or later, why don't you just do it now?"
Geet glared at her and Pinky backed off. "I refuse to talk to that dictator. Besides, its time he learned his lesson."
"Fine. As you wish." Pinky slipped into bed beside Geet.
"You're going to bed already?" Geet asked, still sitting on the bed.
Pinky yawned. "Your very own dictator called an important meeting early tomorrow morning. All employees must attend."
"Samajta kya hai apne aap ko?" Geet frowned and hugged a pillow, not making any effort to move.
"Geet, meherbani kar ke so jao. Please. If I show up late to one more meeting, I could lose my job."
"WHAT?!" Geet whipped around. "He can't fire you! You're my best friend!"
"He can and he will. Now go to sleep!" Pinky pulled the covers over her head.
Geet leaned against the backboard and toyed with the pillow in her lap. She reached towards the phone, pulled her hand back then decided to pick it up. She slid off the bed and dialed the number as she soon as she got downstairs, not wanting to disturb Pinky.
She waited as the phone kept ringing but no one picked up. She paced back and forth when it finally went to the answering machine. She redialed, not admitting defeat.
The person on the other line yawned. "Hello?"
"What is this I hear about you firing Pinky? And these early morning meetings?" Geet shouted then bit her lip, looking upstairs to see if she had woken up Pinky.
"Geet, please. I'm tired, can we talk about this tomorrow?" Maan said.
"No, no we CAN NOT. I want answers and I want them now. You have no right to fire my best friend. This company is called KHURANA Constructions and last time I checked, I was a Khurana too. I have just as much liberty to make these decisions."
"Look, she has been late to 4 out of the 6 meetings this month. If I can't depend on her, I'm not keeping her as an employee. I gave her a fair warning hoping she would pick up her slack."
"No you look, she can show up to meetings whenever she wants. I know Pinky and it isn't an issue of just being late. She's probably slave driving all night or finishing some stupid project in the morning that you've assigned her to. Its not her fault her boss is a jerk."
"Geet -"
"And you listen here Mr. Maan Singh Khurana, you are their BOSS. You give them instructions not reign over their lives like this."
"But Geet -"
"If I hear one more complaint from Pinky or Adi you won't have to fire them, they will quit. Then maybe you'll see how much they are worth to your company." Geet took a deep breath and sat down, tired from all the ranting.
"Are you done?" Maan asked on the other line.
"Yes."
"Good, now go to sleep. Maybe now you'll get some sleep since you've had more than your portion of fighting for the day. Good night."
Geet's mouth fell open as she heard the other line click.
"ARGHHH!!" She screamed and threw her phone across the room. After a few moments of standing and thinking, she went back to Pinky's room and turned off the alarm clock. She wrote a note to Pinky and put it on top of her night table then finally went to sleep.
(The note read:
Pinky,
Day off tomorrow, I'll take care of everything.
Geet)
When Geet's cell phone started vibrating she woke up and quickly got dressed. She picked up all of Pinky's work and headed to Khurana Constructions.
"Good morning Geet Ma'am." The secretary said and Geet nodded. She walked straight into Maan's office. She put her purse down beside his desk and sat in his chair, turning on the computer.
She searched for Adi's number and dialed.
"Good morning, sssir."
"Adi relax, its me. Listen I need to know two things. One, what is the meeting this morning about?" Geet asked, twirling a pencil in her hand.
"Oh, Maan Sir has called all employees in to talk about how to accomodate the flood of new projects. This is a very busy time of year and he always likes to make sure we're on top of things. He doesn't like to hear complaints from clients." Adi explained.
"And secondly, what time are these meetings usually held?"
"Around 6:30 in the morning."
Geet looked at the clock which now read 6:15. "What time does Maan usually drop in?"
"Around 7."
"He keeps you guys waiting for half an hour?"
"Yeah but by now the employees know he's going to show up at his whim so we usually all come in at 15 minutes before for presentation prep and setting up."
"How long do these meetings last?"
"About an hour or less, Maan sir usually knows what has to be done."
"Alright, why don't you call everyone in right now. We're going to start the meeting in 5 minutes."
"Without Maan sir?"
"Just do it Adi."
"Sure Geet, everyone will be in the conference room in exactly 5 minutes."
Geet glanced over all the files on Maan's desk regarding client complaints and checked on the calendar for all the projects that need to be completed this month. After she finished her background check, she walked to the conference room. She sat in Maan's chair at the front and gestured for everyone to sit down.
"Let's get this meeting started." She said.
With Adi's help, she was able to carry on the meeting just as Maan would have done. She covered all the main issues, made sure everyone was on par with their projects and dealt with client complaints.
Just as Geet was about to dismiss the employees, Maan walked into the conference room.
"Ah, Mr. Khurana." Geet got up from his chair. "So nice of you to join us."
"What's going on here?" Maan asked.
"A meeting, just as you had called."
Maan looked around. "Where's Pinky?"
"She's not here today." Geet shrugged and leaned into his ear. "You TRY and fire her, you will deal with ME. You're not the only one who gets to reign around here."
Geet turned around. "Employees dismissed."
The employees quickly shuffled out of the room, leaving Maan, Geet and Adi.
"Thanks for all your help Adi, you may leave."
Adi nodded and left the room, closing the door behind him. As soon as Geet heard the door click she poked him in the shoulder.
"HOW DARE YOU?! You rag on Pinky for being late when you are half an hour late to every meeting yourself?" Geet yelled at him.
Maan leaned in, getting closer to her. "Good morning to you too."
Geet looked up at the ceiling and put her hands together. "Babaji, please save these employees. I tried, I really did."
Maan rolled his eyes. "You've proved your point Geet. Look, I promise I'll show up on time for employee meetings and I won't fire Pinky. Though that was never my intention anyway. Ok?"
"Fine." Geet said and crossed her arms. "But I'm still angry at you."
"What else is new?" Maan mumbled.
"What did you say?" Geet glared at him.
"Nothing, nothing at all. Why don't you head home Geet? Dadi's been waiting for you, she thought you would have already come home by now."
"Ok but I better not hear any complaints."
"You won't, now go." Maan pushed her slightly.
