Leaving an agitated Geet outside his office, Maan walked back to his cabin pensively. Although it pained him to hurt her in this manner, he had to do it in order to unearth certain activities which were going on right under his nose without his knowledge. For some time now he has been having this nagging feeling that the work atmosphere has not been healthy and someone was up to mischief. His thoughts flashed back to the previous day when his suspicion had further strengthened. He had entered Geet's cabin to collect a file from the cabinet there and found her computer switched on. Since he knew she was on leave that day, he wondered who could have been operating it. He scanned the PC and was surprised to see her mailbox open. Under the sent items, he noticed a mail which was sent to one of the clients just minutes before. He opened the message to read that it was giving wrong information about the progress of work. Maan realised that there was someone in the office who was trying to malign Geet. He quickly sent an apology to the party stating that there was some mistake in the earlier mail which was being rectified in the mail being sent now.
Maan was determined to find the culprit who was bent upon ruining Geet's reputation at the office. He remembered that Geet had accused Sasha of deliberately getting her into trouble but at the time he was not willing to believe her because he had faith in his munshiji and his daughter. Maybe Geet was right all along. But he did not want to take action against Sasha on the basis of mere suspicion. So he had hatched the plan to trap the culprit by using Geet as the pawn. He had called in Geet that morning and forced her to resign on flimsy grounds. Geet's emotional exit did have the desired effect, for as he was set to follow her, he did not miss the smirk on Sasha's and Tasha's faces which seemed to say a lot more than any words could.
His thoughts returning back to the present, he resolved to put an end to this and walked up to Sasha's cabin. The door was ajar and he could hear Sasha boasting to Tasha.
"So, we finally managed to get our behenji kicked out of the office, didn't we?"
Tasha nodded her head in agreement.
"Yes, Sasha. I mean Sasha Maam."
"What all I had to do for that, right from jeopardising her arrangements for the Chopra party so that MK forms a poor opinion of her professionalism; deliberately ripping off her saree as she stood under the spot light on the dance floor; sending the MMS of her sleeping on MK's shoulder on the conference room sofa to all the staff in order to ruin her reputation; rebuking and ridiculing her at every available opportunity so as to make her lose her self-confidence and so on. I made her life miserable at the office right from day one but the girl turned out to be far more resilient and resourceful than I imagined her to be. The Hoshiarpur girl not only managed to survive in the office but even showed her hoshiari in hooking up with MK. What I could not achieve in so many years working with him, this girl managed to do in less than three months! Can you beat that? Anyway how long can she fool a man like MK? I think he must have seen through her schemes and kicked her out of the office. I am sure he would have called off the wedding plans too. Good riddance to bad rubbish. We'll not have to...."
Before she could complete her sentence, she heard measured claps coming from behind her and looked curiously at Tasha who was facing the door. Tasha had turned death pale and her eyes widened into round circles of fear. Sasha slowly turned around and the sight that met her eyes made her lower jaw drop down in shock. Maan, who was still clapping in a slow deliberate fashion, approached her purposefully with eyes blazing in fury.
"Wah, Sasha wah. So this is what you have been up to in the past three months? I had asked you to help Geet and instead you were busy trying to dig her professional grave?"
Sasha was trembling like a twig caught in a storm and she mumbled incoherently, "Mmmm Em..Kaay....I...we...nnno'."
...
"Shut up Sasha. I have heard enough from your own mouth to implicate you. Shame on you for doing what you did to Geet in that Chopra party. You are a woman too, aren't you? How would you feel if someone stripped you in front of the crowd? And you had clicked a picture of us on the sofa? What were you trying to prove, Sasha? That Geet and I slept together that night? What if we had? We are both adults of consenting age and don't need your approval."
Sasha bowed her head in shame, not being able to meet his searing gaze.
"Are..y..you .. gggoing to throw me outtt... of... this...jjjob?" she stammered.
"No," he shook his head. "You have insulted and troubled my fiance. So she gets to decide your fate, not me."
She looked at him in confusion.
"Are you wondering how an ex-employee can decide on the fate of a current one?" he asked her unspoken question and proceeded to answer it himself. "Geet may no longer be my secretary but soon the two of you will be reporting to her. Pray that she shows you more mercy than you did to her."
Before they could respond, he clicked his heels and walked towards the door. As he reached the exit, he turned around, gave both of them a lopsided grin and said, "By the way, our wedding is still on. The two of you are invited to witness it this Friday."
With this, he walked away, leaving behind two very agitated women. Sasha chewed at her nails in frustration as she wondered about what lay in store for her. Tasha, in the meantime, nervously ran her hand through her pony tail, shuddering at the thought of Geet ordering her around.
