Chapter nine

Deceiving The Fate

Mayank: I'm marrying you.

Nupur: What?

Nupur burst out into laughter. She sat at the bed. She couldn't control her laughs.

Mayank: What's so funny about this?

Nupur: (still laughing.) Mayank, this is honestly the funniest joke you've ever cracked. Maan gaya yaar. You're simply great!!

Mayank: This is not a joke.

Nupur got cautious. If it wasn't a joke then they were in trouble.

Nupur: What do mean, this is not a joke? How can you be serious about it?

Mayank: I know it sounds that I'm gone crazy but trust me, I'm not. We need to talk. Kya abhi mujhe milsakti ho? Same place, one hour?

Nupur: Haan. Per'''.

Mayank: Just trust me on this, ok?

Mayank- nupur met at their hanging place, the same old heritage kind of building in about an hour.

Nupur: so, you're saying that Rohit mujhe is liye shadi karna chahta tha so that he could rob me and overtake my company?

Mayank: Exactly.

Nupur: That son of a bi**h! But how are you so sure?

Mayank: Well I had a spy on him.

Nupur: What!! You were spying on him?

Mayank: No . I don't have the time or interest to spy on your future 'husband'. I had someone spying on him.

Nupur: Very funny. So how did your spy find out that he was planning this.

Mayank: Well if you are sexy and you buy the man enough to get drunk as hell, then you can bring out pretty much anything you want to know.

Nupur: Oh! Sexy spy! Did she like you?

Nupur said in a mischievous voice.

Mayank: Well, you know girls simply cant resist me. But this is not about me. Its about you.

Nupur: Oh-ho. So much concern for me! Tina sunegi na to maar degi mujhe!

Mayank: Of course I'm concerned but not about you but my money. Main sare jaga koshish karke dekh liye. Woh product tumhare company ke signature product hain. Koi aur use nehi kharide ga. And I cant face that much loss.

Nupur: But how this involves you marrying me? I could handle your problem by only getting married to anybody. You don't have to do this.

Mayank: You're not thinking properly. Just think. How many days do we have left? 20 days ,barely, right?

Nupur nodded.

Mayank: And by this time we have to find someone smart, educated and rich. Make sure he's comfortable with our terms and conditions. And most importantly we have to put this act so perfectly that your dadi doest suspect anything and accepts him. And not to forget that we have to arrange a full traditional marriage function which itself would take minimum 10 days. So , you still think all this is possible?

Nupur was terrified now. Mayank was right. There were so much to do and so little time! And loads of it depended on chance. What if something went wrong? She couldn't afford loosing the property.

Nupur s voice trembled as she said this to mayank.

Nupur: You.. your right! Ab kya karenge mayank? I cant afford this to go wrong. I cant''

Mayank held her hand.

Mayank: Relax nupur. I'm on it. Right now the best plan is to get us married. Cuz I cant afford this plan to go wrong and you loosing the property. Cuz that will cause me a lot of loss.

Nupur: But how is this gonna work? And Tina? What about her?

Mayank: I'll talk to her. I'm sure I can persuade her. She'd be angry for some days. Wont talk or meet me, but eventually she'd come back to me. You just don't worry about her. We've got so much to worry about than tina.

Nupur was so worried but mayank made her relax. And they started planning. It was going to be so much difficult for both of them and they needed a perfect plan and perfect execution. They couldn't afford any mistakes. Because one mistake, and it could jeopardize their future.

They made plan for everything. Even after returning to home, they talked till late night going about every details of their plan. Considering their options and thinking alternatives if one the plans failed. They didn't go to sleep until they could recite the full plan to each other.

The next day was important to both of them. First part of their plan was to be executed that day. And not to mention that it had to be perfect. Mayank called nupur at 10 in the morning.

Mayank: Nupur, ready ho na?

Nupur was tensed and so was Nayank.

Nupur: Hmm. Tum nikal rahe ho?

Mayank: Ha. I'll meet you in 20 minutes.

Nupur: Ok.

Mayank: And best of luck.

Nupur: Same to you too.

Nupur was sitting in the dining table having breakfast with her uncle, aunt and dadi. She was damn nervous. But tried to look normal. her dadi kept putting foods in her plate.

Dadi: Kitni patli ho gayi hai. Khayegi nehi to kayse chalega.

She was insisting nupur to eat an egg when mayank came.

Mayank: Namaste dadi. Namaste uncle- aunty.

He touched nupurs dadi's feet to seek her blessings.

Dadi smiled at his action.

Dadi: Jeete raho beta. To itne dino baad dadi ki yaad ayi?

Mayank: Nehi dadi aysa nehi hain. Main to aana chahta hun per nupur ane hi nehi deti.

He gave her a look.

Dadi: Kyun nupur?

Nupur didn't answer and left the table looking disgusted.

Dadi: Ise kya ho gaya?

Mayank: Shayad abhi bhi naraj hain mujhse. Main use mana ka rata hun. Jau?

Dadi: ha beta, jao.

Nupur went back to her room and waited for Mayank. Her first scene of the act was done beautifully and it was Mayanks part now. Mayank entered the room.

Nupur: so?

Mayank: so?

Nupur: How did it go? What do you think?

Mayank: Well, dadi surelyfelt that there was something fishy. Don't know about uncle-aunty though. Hamara first part achchha tha. Per second part bahaut important hai. Yaad hai na tumhe ke kya karna hai?

Nupur: hmm..

Nupurs dadi was just back from the breakfast table and about to sit on her bed when she heard something. It was nupurs voice. It was coming from the window of her room. She got up and went near the window to see what was happening. She saw Mayank and Nupur in the garden. And the sight had made her numb.

Mayank was back hugging Nupur tightly almost lifting her of her feet.

Nupur: mayank, mujhe choro.

She said in an irritated voice.

Mayank: Chorne ke liye thori na pakri hai! Tumhe to mai zindegi bhar nehi chorunga!

Nupur smiled at his words while he nudged on her hairs.

Nupurs dadi was totally surprised .just yesterday Nupur had said that they were just friends now this. She hurried down to enquire what was going on.

Mayank left Nupur as soon as he saw dadi move.
