Chapter 9
The sun gleaming, early morning dew reflecting the new rays of light, it was a new day, a new dawn and there lay two young hearts beating contently, seemingly un-aware of the bond that was formed by a higher power. However their serenity was quickly grounded by a knocking at the door, 'Maan, you didn't tell me'' Dadima opened the door and stood astounded, what was this- her grandson on the bed; cradling a beaten figure.
He had finally drifted off to sleep in the early hours of the morning, after having spent most of the night concerned for Geet's comfort. He would fluff her pillows, sooth her wounds and try to ease her through the nightmares that were clearly invading her peace. He quickly hushed his grandma and rushed her out of the room. 'Dadima, it is not what it looks like, I should have told you yesterday but I didn't want to worry you.' 'Told me what Beta?' his grandma asked. 'Last night was the night that I had planned to put an end to it all, it was the night when Dev would be punished for all his wrong doings!' Maan venomously whispered. 'I would have told you, but knowing the plan would have put you in danger, and I couldn't risk anything happening to you!' Maan was now holding his grandma by the shoulders. 'It is okay beta, I understand- but that girl'is that Geet?' Dadi asked; her voice laced with concern. 'Ji Dadi, the operation didn't go as smoothly as planned and unfortunately she was badly hurt.' Fury was beginning to arise in Maan- aware of her grandson's plight she placed her hand on his shoulder trying to calm the storm that was brewing. 'Maan, she will be okay now, we are here for her!' She stated with an air of confidence- it was clearly evident where her grandson got his pride from.
Geet slowly pried open her heavy eyes, blinking a few times; she tried to get up, to which she felt excruciating pain in her limbs. Collapsing back to the bed she realised that she was in a new place. This room was bright, there were pictures of a family who were smiling- she was overwhelmed with sorrow as she remembered her family, tears began to flood her eyes once again. Maan walked back into the room and the two simply gazed at each other. 'Geet don't try to get up, the doctor said you need to rest.' Maan firmly stated as he bought her breakfast. She simply looked into his eyes un-sure of what was happening. 'Maan, I should be leaving I have already been too much of a burden. With that, Geet quickly got off the bed and ignored the crushing pain that ran through her body.
As she began to slowly walk towards the door she became shocked to see her bare thighs. She was not uncomfortable with her appearance. On the contrary, she had been made aware of her 'beauty' as they called it, a very long time ago. But something was different today- she felt different, why did she feel so coy around Maan- he was just another man. She turned to look at him and meekly asked 'You changed my clothes?' She looked down unable to bare the intensity with which he looked at her. 'No Geet I didn't, the nurse that came with the doctor did.' he carried on as he went towards her, 'Geet you don't have to worry anymore, you are safe, no man will hurt you again.' With that being said , Geet hugged Maan, ' I need to freshen up but'' She whispered in his ear. He grudgingly broke the hug, 'Geet I understand, Dadi will be here any moment with every thing you need.' 'But Maan, I, I cant'like this' she feebly tried to explain to him that she was in no state to meet anyone, and that to not an elder.
The door opened and in walked Dadi, Geet was not surprised with what she saw. She knew Maan would be from great lineage, such grace, such poise. Geet hung her head, for the first time in a long while she felt ashamed. 'What have I become, when did I choose this life- I didn't chose to live like this did I?' She was quickly bought back out of her trance with a feminine but firm hand lifting her chin. 'Geet beta you don't have to worry. Maan and I are here now.' Dadi tried her best to reassure the broken figure in front of her. 'Maam, I should be leaving, its just I cant go like this'' she whispered, once again she was having to ask a stranger to restore her with some dignity. 'Beta I am one step a head of you, here are some clothes and a few other things you may need.' She placed her hand on Geet's head and told her to be quick as she needed to talk to her about something important. 'Maan chaliye'if you can tear yourself away from this angel!' Maan was harshly bought back to earth by his grandmother's not -so-discrete comments. 'Ji Dadima' Maan coyly stole one last glance at Geet and walked out of the room. Geet looked down, blushing. She laughed at her self, 'Stop behaving like a love struck teenager and go and get ready, they are waiting for you!' she said slowly making her way to the bathroom.
She got dressed into a simple blue salwar suit, placed some kohl in her eyes and left her hair open. She looked at herself in the mirror, 'Geet now make a fresh start, don't do anything to ruin it.' With that lingering thought she made her way down the stairs, she felt nervous to see everybody. Dadima greeted her half way. 'Beta I was just coming to get you, come and I will tell you about your new job. Geet was taken aback and looked at Maan- 'Maan, I didn't know your Dadi would be my boss, how can I, I mean, you have already done'' her blabbering was abruptly cut short by Maan who placed his finger on her lips and whilst looking into her eyes explained 'Geet I didn't tell you because I thought you might think I was taking pity on you, but Dadi really wants you to work for her. She has even arranged some other benefits for you- she will help you finish your exams- that is if you want to.' Tears began flowing again, to which Maan cupped her face and whipped away with his thumbs. Geet quickly stepped back thinking Dadi would see, however the observant lady left the room to allow the infantile love to blossom.
After a short while, Geet had been fully prepped about her role in the business. She was feeling overwhelmed, but the sense of gratitude was ever more prominent. She bent to take Dadi's blessings. 'Dadi, how will I ever repay you? You have done so much for me, after everything that has happened; after what I have become'' She struggled to contain her sobs when she was pulled into the warmth of the elderly lady's embrace. 'Beta please, don't make me a stranger by thanking me over and over. You have an opportunity now to make something of your self- just don't disappoint me.' 'Dadi I promise you, I will never let you down.' The two lady's hugged and in walked Maan.
He couldn't understand why he felt like this is what had been lacking in his life all these years? He had accomplished so much at such a young age, he had made it to chief in the police force, he looked after the family business- successfully and he was one of the most renowned men in Delhi. Yet he had always thought something was missing, he did not feel the 'success' that everybody told him he was. He starred at Geet and, 'No, it cant be, Geet is what my life'what I need?' he whispered to himself shocked.
The two ladies broke the hug feeling Maan's presence in the room. 'Why don't you both go out and enjoy yourself. I know Maan; why don't you take Geet to our cabin in Shimla.' Maan was shocked at his grandmother. What was she trying to do? He had always thought his grandmother was more traditional than to let him stay alone with a girl, especially such a beauty. 'Hmm, Geet probably hasn't travelled much, she might aswell enjoy her free time. Geet I will be taking you to work with me in a few days- so enjoy your freedom!' She reassuringly placed her hand on Geet's shoulder as she made her was out of the room. Maan looked at Geet and told her to be ready in an hour as they needed to get there before it was too dark.
They made there way to Shimla after buying Geet some clothes. Both were overwhelmed with nerves. Neither were aware of why they felt this way and neither knew what fate had in store for them.
Pre cap: Her bosom pressing against his chiselled chest was enough to break his reserve. He pulled away ever so gently; adoringly gazing at her lips. She licked them unaware of the craving that she had awaked.
