~~~~~~Writer's Note~~~~~~

Thank you all so much for your wonderful comments 🤗 Sorry you guys for not responding to your comments individually. But I could see a very common theme in all the comments i.e. you all enjoyed the cute moments between MaYur during their childhood. Few comments also highlighted the appreciation for the friendship that Bhushan and Sharma share. For all those readers who think that the story would lead to status clash or friends turning into enemies...unfortunately you couldn't be any more wrong 😊 Typical bollywood or kekta serials are not my style 😉 Also couple of comments showed a fear that what would happen during this separation, well let us begin the story then.

The childhood days are over now. There were few things that needed to be portrayed to establish the groundwork for the story which is:

Friendship between Sharma and Bhushan
Sharma and Bhushan's views about life which is about to be inherited by their children
The unknown bond between Mayank and Nupur which has no name...just yet

The story will now take a 10 year leap and from this point on, what you would read is Nupur's story, her point of views, the way she thinks and believes. KAJ and Qayenaat was heavily involved in analysing Mayank's feelings and emotions...probably because I could relate to him so much. Then again I have been told that I never understood Nupur. So Intikhaab is an attempt to understand her...perhaps get answers to some of my own questions...who knows.

p.s. Please note, it is also important that the story is Nupur's because end of the day you as readers will be making the decision on Nupur's behalf. So from now on...start putting yourself in Nupur's shoes 😊 Enjoy reading...

Part 4: Time Flies…
(10 Years Later)

What a picturesque view this is…from the balcony you can see the lake that surrounds the town. There is a small wooden bridge that joins both sides of the lake, the other side mostly being a hilly forest. People here have a very simplisitic life style…they are poor and live from hand to mouth each day but they are quite content with their life style. Their self respect and dignity adds to the core value of this town and puts it on a map as a traditional place. On the other hand, there are some rich aristocratic families who have contributed a lot to develop this town into a modern facility for jobs and education with least interference to the authenticity of the culture this place bears. Some of the best students of the country have studied in colleges and the only university here and they do tend to return to this place for its further development. Nupur is also a part of this view and she reflects the same values and traditions that this place offers…a simple yet sophisticated young lady who dreams of a very simple life with minimal needs and wants but her home will be full with happiness and laughter. Above all, love will be the dominating factor in her life because thats all what she needs and thats all what she can give. Nupur is known to be a bubbly yet very shy person. She doesn't open up to anyone and everyone then again she doesn't hide any secrets from the ones she trusts. At the first sight, she would come across as a very vulnerable and sensitive person but deep inside, she can be as strong as anything to fight off any evil and wrong doing caused by anyone.

Today, Nupur turns 19 and as she opens her eyes by embracing the mountain view from her balcony, as usual she feels a strong presence of someone in the breeze that slowly blows her hair. She closes her eyes and hears a voice in her ears..a voice that she has never heard before yet she is so familiar with it.

"Happy Birthday Nupur!!"

She opens her eyes with a smile on her face and mumbles to herself…

"kab aayenge aap….aur kitna intezar kerwana hai hum se?" And she starts blushing by the thoughts that creeps into her mind leading to that.

Aparna enters the room and sees Nupur in this state…she walks up to her and slowly brushes her hand on her head

A: janamdin mubarak ho beta.
N: maa…(hugs her with a big smile)
A: meri gudiya badi hogayi hai ab to.
N: kyun maa…aisa kyun keh rahe ho?
A: pehle to raat 12 bajte hi bhaagke aajati thee apne maa-baba k paas gift lene, iss saal khamoshi se yahan khari hai! aur hum dono intezar kar rahe hai niche k kab yeh pagli apni gift ka daawa leke hum dono sir khaane aayegi (she smiles)
N: oh maa…meri pyaari maa..18 saal se aap dono ka sir khaa rahe hai hum to iss baar humnain tay kiya k aap dono ko maaf kiya jaaye. aap bhi kya yaad rakhoge, yeh Nupur Bhushan ki taraf se aap dono ko usski janamdin pe gift
A: gift? kahan hai gift?
N: arre de diya na gift? aap dono ka sir!!
A: shararti kahin ki (she pulls her ears)
N: arre maa chhoro..chhoro janamdin pe beti ki kaan khenchoge to poora saal khinchi hui kaan leke guzara karna padega
A: uffff…tujhse to baaton me koi nahi jeet sakta. jah meri maa…tayyar ho jaa aur niche aa..teri baba intezar kar rahe hai kab se
N: hum abhi aaye maa

As Aparna turns to leave, Nupur hugs her from behind
A: ab kya hua?
N: maa..thank you. muah!
A: kis khushi me rishwat diya jaa raha hai?
N: rishwat nahi maa..bas izhar karna tha aapse ke hum kitne shuker guzaar hai aapke k aap humain iss duniya me laaye aur iss khubsoorat zindagi ko jeene ka mauka diya
A: buddhu kahin ki! ahsaan to uss uperwale ka hum maante hai jo teri jaisi itni pyaari gudiya hum dono ko diya

The affectionate moment between them is somewhat disrupted by Bhushan's loud voice from downstairs

B: Apuuuuuu….arre bhai kahan chali gayi aap? agar maa-beti ka pyaar khatam hogaya ho to zara idhar bhi nazre karam farmayye
N: (giggles) jayye jayye…Apu ko yaad kiya jaa raha hai
A: dhet…niche aa jaldi se. main jaati hoon

Aparna leaves and Nupur quickly freshens up to begin the day. As she comes downstairs, Bhushan is waiting for her at the breakfast table. Nupur runs down the stairs and gives him a hug and a kiss..

N: Good Morning baba!
B: Good Morning beta and a very very Happy Birthday to you. jaldi se batayye k janamdin me iss baar aapko kya chahiye?
N: kuch nahi baba…sab kuch to hai hamare paas.
B: wah…hamari beti aaj waqai me badi hogayi hai. jo bacchi har saal apne tohfay ko lekar itna hungaama kiya karti thee aaj saamne se aake pooch rahe hai to kehti hai kuch nahi chahiye!!! yaqeen nahi horaha mujhe Apu
N: uff baba itni bhi kya …bas nahi chahiye to nahi chahiye
B: hmm…hum samajh gaye k aapko kya chahiye!
N: haan!!! kya chahiye?
B: ahem…gudda
N: heehehhee…baba itni badi hogaye hai hum, itni si gudde se kya karenge?
B: itne se nahi beta…woh chalnewala…bolne wala 5'10" gudda. kya kehti ho Apu? humain lagta hai inke bade hone ka yehi anjaam hona chahiye (grin on his face)
N: baba bas bhi kijiye ab…

…"haan Uncle aap bhi! abhi kya umer hai hamari jo aise baatein soche? hmm…?" here comes Diya, Nupur's best friend and Mayank's cousin. Diya comes from one of those aristocratic families who run the shows in this town. Her family is highly influential when it comes to matters of the town and being rich and wealthy, Diya is nothing less in reflecting the image. She is very much opposite to what Nupur is! Very much into latest fashion and celebraty gossips, Diya is the heart throb in the college. She doesn't give a damn about anything or anyone except Nupur who is very close to her. Diya spends her vacations in Europe and does not hesitate to boast about it either.

B: arre beta Diya? tum kab aayi? aur kaisa raha tumhara trip?
D: bohat accha Uncle! As usual Europe has fascinated me
B: haan…but it can't be better than home
D: nothing can match home Uncle (she smiles). kaisi hai tu Nupur (she hugs her)…and Happy Birthday
N: hum to theek hain per tu itni jaldi wapas aagayi?
D: teri birthday jo thee aaj…kaise miss karti? dekh main kya laayi hoon tere liye? (she takes a small box out of her bag) ley..tere liye khaas laayi hoon Paris se.
N: tu bhi na Diya…kitni baar mana kiya tujhe yeh sab mat kiya kar mere liye per tu hai k..
D: accha chal uper chalte hai tere kamre me…we have loads to catch up

They come up to Nupur's room and Diya continues with her chitchat about her trip. Then suddenly, she remembers something…

D: main to bilkul hi bhool gayi thee (as she takes an envelope out of her bag)
N: yeh kya hai? (as she tosses the envelope around and notices her name written at the front)
D: yeh Mayank ne diya hai tere liye
N: kaun?
D: Mayank!! my cousin and your long lost friend…bhool gayi kya?

Nupur recalls those early days….vague and hazy pictures of a 12 year old boy. Its been 10 long years and although Mayank, as per his promise, intially did send some random letters and postcards from various cities of the world, but its been years lately since he made any contact with Nupur. This envelope comes to Nupur as a big surprise and as her heart beats faster and faster in anticipation of what has been written inside, she feels extremely shy to open it just yet and waits for Diya to leave so that she can open it in her own private time and space.

Nupur is so mature aur she feels someone's presence in the air,

She is in her own thought

Loved the convo of Trio

Mom dad and nupur.

Nupur and dia are Friends and Diya got the Envelope for her that to of Mayank's

I am actually thinking what will be thr in Envelope,

i mean kuch achhi bate,what they shared till now

and that to on her birthday

Waiting for the next part impatiently

Hmm... Nupur bhari hogaiy hai... lekin abhi tak utni he shararti... The bond she shares with her parent is very sweet... 😳

Diya-Nupur the true example of not caring about where they belong from... Diya-Nupur are poled apart, Nupur being the simple one and Diya the exact opposite...

I think Diya will be the one connecting MayUr, or be the messenger...

And the much awaited letter... 😳

hayee....you left the story on a cliff hanger...aisa chalta hai kya bhala ??
hmm....itne salon se no letter...then suddenly a letter on 19th birthday......
what's the association ??
why I sense somethings gonna happen.....I dunno if it'll be good or bad you geting na what I mean to say ....??.....
Ajeeb si feeling aa rahi hai hume.....

and the bond that Nupur shares with her parents is beautiful ! And even the bond Nupur's parents share is so good...itne salon baad bhi itna pyaar..... :)

I even like Diya though shez all boastful and all shez good with Nupur !

Aur since ab aap itna online aahi rahe ho toh.....I can expect the next update to be soon :)

Hi Neela,

Let me apologise for not commenting on the previous part. Was caught up with something or the other. After reading Nupur's character description all I can say is that she's an enigma😊 I think since most of the IF members are females, we always or mostly relate to female characters than the males. I'm sure that just like you we too will catch up with Nupur's enigmatic nature😛 Waiting to read the next update which would hopefully reveal the contents of Mayank's letter😊
