Chapter Six
Maan was fuming by the time Rasika put down the phone.
"Sir?" asked Geet timidly. "I need to tell you something." She'd made up her mind that dare or not, she would have to apologize to Rasika-for as much as Maan annoyed her, she couldn't bear to see him going to jail.
"I need to tell you something," Maan said angrily. "Ever since you've entered my office, all you've brought it bad luck. I just cannot understand what you get by spoiling all my work. Thanks to you, a court case might be filed against me. You enjoy this don't you, the way I take your side despite all your mistakes. You would just love to take advantage of me right?"
Geet was speechless.
"And now you will cry," said Maan, throwing up his hands. "Understanding women is not as difficult as men make it out to be."
"Well then maybe you need to check your gender," said Geet, fighting back tears, "Or else a true man would never put the blame of his problems on a woman, but accept them as his responsibility. He never believes in sharing the blame," and saying that she promptly ran away before she could start sobbing like a baby in front of him.
Maan sighed. Oh great. Now he had two upset women to deal with. But he felt that Geet need to be handled first. Rasika was uptight since childhood. Geet...well, she was someone different.
He went down to the stairwell, knowing that everytime she was upset at him she would go there and take out her frustration. She was sitting on the steps, muttering abuses about him as usual. A smile spread on his face as he sat down next to her.
"Geet?" he asked meekly.
She turned away, wiping her cheeks with her dupatta.
He offered her a handkerchief. With her face still away from him she accepted it and removed the tear stains on her face.
"I'm sorry, I know I've been a jerk," he said.
She made a face, as if to say, 'oh really? Wow, thanks for noticing."
"And anyway, there is still around four hours left for working hours to end. I've not yet accepted defeat," he said teasingly.
She finally turned around, just as he had expected. "Well, I think you will." And saying that she walked away in a huff. Rather than irritating him it just made his smile broaden.
