Chapter Seven

At the end of the day, which meant seven o clock for Geet, everyone filed out of office as usual, exchanging goodbyes with their colleagues. As usual, only Adi and Pinky, the bubbly receptionist, bothered to greet her. But what worried Geet was not her low popularity level in the office, but rather the anticipation for the midnight punishment Maan was going to impose on her.

"Geet!"

Geet bit her lip. For once her heart and mind were not warring with each other-instead, they were both sending her alerts to not enter Maan's cabin. But on a second yell, she had no choice but to meekly slip into his office, hoping he would have forgotten the dare.

But Maan liked to keep everything perfect, especially his memory.

"So, Geet," he said," it's been ten hours. I don't like to stress my employees much, but since you've dared, why not just extend it up to midnight?", trying his best to keep from sniggering.

"Well sir, I cannot stay that late. The thing is that my...husband is waiting for me at home," she fibbed in desperation.

Well, she was a married woman, to speak the truth.

The smile vanished from Maan's face as quickly as it had appeared.

"What?" he asked, his eyes widening.

"Husband," she finally decided, adding a victorious smirk.

"Um...well then what about sindoor and mangalsutra?"

"Oh sir, nowadays modern women don't really care about such things," she said carelessly.

"You're not modern," he said suspiciously.

"Oh sir, you have to adapt," she said with a shrug.

Maan's ears were still ringing. Geet and married? No way.

Wait a minute, why was he finding it so hard to accept that?

"Well, I would like to meet your husband," he said finally.

"Huh?" asked Geet, flabbergasted.

"I. Would Like. To meet. Your husband." Maan repeated slowly.

"Err...sir, he comes very late from office," said Geet.

"Then why does he have a problem if you do the same?"

"Because I have to make his dinner and keep it ready for him."

"You just said you are a modern woman."

"So what if I'm a modern woman sir? Pati ke liye itna to karna hi padta hai!"

"And he doesn't mind you dressing like an unmarried woman."

"Sir, aap please meri shaadi shuda zindagi par sawaal mat uthaaiye!!"

"Fine," he said, getting up, slamming his files on the table. Geet jumped back scared. "Now toh I have to meet this guy. He sounds like a very unique husband to me."

"No sir...no paraya aadmi in front of me!!"

Maan sat down, making a face like a kid who had his favourite toy snatched away. "Fine. Go home."

She turned back.

"Come back at midnight, when your darling patidev is sleeping. I'm sure he won't mind that."

Geet trembled and bit her lip. She did not know whether Maan was being sarcastic or not.

But something told her he was very serious.

oh my god!!! loved it when maan finds out the truth that she is not having a husband....wow geet would be dead in maan hands to play such a prank on him...
