Part 29:

Sameera would be the first person Maan would speak to as soon as he would wake up. It was his habit. He would wish her good night, and then, he would wake her up in the morning as otherwise he knew she would sleep for hours together.

Its still four thirty in the morning and Maan is about to wake up for his early morning work out when he slowly opens his eyes and sits up in a fright. Sameera is sitting on the bed next to him. He cant believe his eyes at first. He rubs them to make sure he isn't dreaming. He turns the light on. Sameera is smiling.

Maan moves away …

Maan: sameera ???

Sam: sameera nahi … sam …

Maan: pulling out a shirt to wear … ( as he feels a little awkward)

Sam: sotey hue tum kitne shaant lag rahey they M .. tumhe uthaneka mann hi nahi kiya …

Maan: (shocked) tum raat bhar yahin thi ….

Sam nods… She comes forward to hold him but he pushes her away …

Maan: Sameera … tum ladki ho issi liye main tumhara saath sharafat se pesh aa raha hoon.. chali jao yahase …

Sam: M … (with tears almost ready to drop down from her eyes) .. please M .. hear me out .. once .. main bas ek mauka hi toh chahti hoon … please M …

Maan: kya kehna hai Sameera …

Sam: main .. uss waqt … pata nahi kya soch rahi thi … jab main tumhe chodke chali gayi …

Maan wants to cut in but she urges him .. that she wants to continue…

Sam: lekin M .. tumne mujhe ek baar bhi kyun nahi roka? Kyun nahi bola ke hum aise juda nahi ho sakte … aur waapis aake mujhe apne zindagi se aise nikaal bahar kia ke .. ab mujhe itni takleef ho rahi hai … bolo M … tumhe koi farak nahi padta? Tumhe mere saath rehne ka mann nahi karta? Saath bitaya wo hal pal? Kya tumhe yaad nahi aata?

Maan for the first time looks totally effected … as he remembers those days just after he had gotten back… he grits his teeth and controls his anger and says …

Maan: yeh sab keh kart um kya saabit karna chahti ho?

Sam: kuch nahi M … main bas tumhe yeh samjha rahi hoon.. ke .. right now tum jo kar rahey ho .. ur doing it on rebound .. you love me .. don't you see it .. agar tum mujse pyar nahi karte toh tum mujhe yahan kabhi nahi bulate …

Maan comes forward … holds Sameera by her shoulders and looks at her softly and says … " aao … yahan baitho Sam"

A slight smile comes onto Sameera's face … she does as told …

Maan: zindagi main kuch aisi cheezen hoti hai jo humare haath main nahi hoti .. jaisa ki humara rishta .. main manta hoon … ke tum mere zindagi main bahut ehmiyat rakhti thi … lekin sameera, samajhneki koshish kar .. wo kal ki baat thi …

Sam: (pleading) M … main maanne ke liye tayar hoon… sari galti merit hi … I was the one who messed up … I was the one who ddint care …maine tumhari qadar nahi ki … par .. please M … mujhe ek mauka do … saying this, she slips down almost as though ready to touch his feet making Maan feel very uncomfortable. A faint smile appears onto Maan's face as he thinks of the effect Geet has had on him….

Maan: mere saath jo hua hai .. acche ke liye hua hai ….

Sam: khaak acche ke liye hua hai M …compromise ban gayi hai tumhari zindagi … tumhare pasand naam ki koi cheez nahi dikhti mujhe iss ghar main … ghar jo kehti hai tum wok arte hai … aur wo jo tumhe dikhati hai .. tum wahi dekh te ho .. andhey ho gaye ho tum uske pyar main…. NT jiski shakal dekhna bhi tum pasand nahi karte they .. aaj wo aur Geet kitne acche dost hai … aur tumhe iss baat se aitraaz bhi nahi hai … agar main Geet ki jagah hoti .. tum mujhe haq se keh dete .. ke main ussey door rahoon … aur tumhe abhi bhi lagta hai tum ussey pyar karte ho M?

He walks away ….. without noticing Geet standing at the door …

But geet who has heard all this, is totally shattered and shivering. She doesn't know what to do. After hearing all that Sameera had said to Maan, though Maan is undeterred it is Geet who actually gets totally affected.

Maan had never discussed his relationship with Sameera. Did that mean, it was too painful to be talked about? And like Sameera had pointed out, had Maan been making too many compromises? She quickly gets all the flashes of the times he had been with her . he wanted to get married while she had expressed displeasure, he had fought with his own brother, he had always sided her no matter what she did … Was it really love? She goes weak in her knees as all these questions crop up in her mind. She is totally disturbed. Tears don't stop. Had Maan loved Sameera and never forgotten her? She remembered how Maan was when she first met him.. he had totally hated women! And spoke as though he had been badly let down by them.. if that's the impact someone would have on someone the person would have been very important in maan's life …

As she opens the door to her outhouse and slowly enters maan is already there ….

Maan: kahan thi tum? Main tumhe dhoondte yahan pe aa gaya..

Geet is silent …

Maan: Geet … mujhe tumse koi zaroori baat karni hai ….

Geet: Sameera ke bare main? ( straight faced)

Maan: haan geet … agar usne tumse baat karne ki koshish ki … tum …

Geet: bahut pyar karte they aap ussey ?

Maan: Geet main tumse pyar karta hoon …

Geet: bahut naraaz they aap ussey? Issi liye aapne ussey baat karna band kar dia?

Maan: Geet in saari baton ka koi matlab nahi ….

Geet: wo aaj tum aapse bahut pyar karti hai ( a tear drop trickles down her eye as she says this, still with a straight face)

Maan: Geet … agar Sameera ne tumse kuch….

Geet: main apne khud ke failse le sakti hoon…

Maan: ( annoyed and angry) haan issi liye shayad tumne apne aur NT ke dosti ke bare main mujhe batana zaroori nahi samjha ….

Geet: najaane aisi kitni baatien hai jo main nahi jaanti ….

Maan comes towards Geet, shakes her up literally and says …." Kya ho gaya hai tumhe … main yahan tumhare liye aaya tha .. aur tum kisi aur ke bare main baat kar rahi hoon"

Geet: main sameera ki baat kar rahi hoon… wo sameera jissey aap kabhi pyar karte the …

Maan: haan … lekin ab nahi karta …

Geet: toh kya kal ko aura a jayega toh main bhi aapke liye gair ho jaungi?

Maan is so hurt, his eyes are red in anger …

Geet: main thodi der ke liye akeli rehna chahti hoon …

Maan: main tumhe iss haal main akela nahi chodoonga …

Geet: aap kyun nahi samajhte key eh problem mujhe aapki wajah se ho rahi hai .. issi lliye behtar hoga aap yahan se chale jaye …

Maan: Geet, tumhe mujhpe vishwaas nahi hai ?

Geet: dekhiye … agar aap yahan rhkar baat ko badhana chahte hai … toh ruk jayiye .. main oopar jaa rahi hoon …

She starts running towards the stairs as Maan says … " geet sambhal ke … seediya dheere se chadna… khudka gussa bacche par mat nikaalo …aur jab tumhara maan kare mujhe bata dena .. main aa jaunga …"

He steps aside as though he were moving out, but waits till geet reaches the room safe and then goes back to the outhouse hurt.

Maan in his quad, performing martial arts thinks of the moment he spent with her yesterday and then what happened with sameera and then the subsequent fight ..

Maan: mujhe Sameera ko yahan bulana hi nahi chahiye tha ….

Geet sitting on her bed and thinking …

Geet: kya main maan sir ke liye sahi ladki hoon ….

At the haveli … dadi spots maan in this state …. While at the out house …NT lands up looking for Geet ….

NT: madam aap kahan gayab ho gayi thi … engagement ke baad, dikhi hi nahi … ab aap humari jethani hai… toh kya aap yeh chahti hai ke hum aake aapse miley …

Geet: Naina, aisi koi baat nahi hai …

Dadi: Sameera ko aap hi ne yahan bulaya?

Maan: hmmmm ( looking away)

NT and Geet:

NT: aap unsey mili ?

Geet: koun?

NT: aur koun Sameera …. ( she enjoys the change in Geet's expression and the effect the name has evoked)

Geet nods …

NT: wo achanak yahan?

Geet: haan … Maan ne bulaya tha …

NT: Maan veerji ne?

Geet: Haan … humare sagai pe !

Dadi and maan:

Dadi: sagai toh theek hai … par humne unhey yahan pe bhi dekha …aaj thodi der pehle…

Maan: dadi ma .. pata nahi wo yahan kya kar rahi hai ….

Dadi: Maan kahin aap fir se …..

Geet and NT:

NT: kahin Maan Veerji fir se ….. Geet … hume aapki bahut fikar ho rahi hai ( fake)

Geet: Naina aisi koi baat nahi hai .. wo unki dost hai na?

NT: geet … hum aurat hai … issi liye keh rahe hai .. aapko dhyan rakhna ho jaye …aapko toh pata hai … humare saath kya hua tha … kya humne kabhi socha tha .. ke dev aisa karenge humare saath …?

Geet: maan aise nahi hai ….

NT: aap ka kya matlab hai maan aise nahi hai ….sare mard ek hi jaise hote hai …. Aur fir yeh sameera hai .. wo Sameera jo saalon se maan ki zindagi main thi …Geet kya aapne kabhi socha hai … Maan veerji aaj tak unhe mana nahi kar paatey?

Geet: Naina… main thak gayi hoon… thodi der aaraam karloon?

Maan and Dadi:

Maan: mujhe kuch na kuch karna hi hoga … Sameera ko waapis bhejna hoga … Geet ke saath aur misunderstandings ka risk main handle nahi kar sakta …!

Geet: on her side of the bed

Pata nahi mujhe itni takleef kyun ho rahi hai …. Mujhe maan sir pe poora bharosa hai .. par mujhe pata nahi kyun kuch andar se theek nahi lag raha hai …
