Sasha's jaw dropped-and so did the pile of wedding invitation cards she was holding.
"Noooo!!!" she screamed, marching out of her cabin, as the other employees stared at her. She walked into Maan's cabin and put her fist on the table.
Maan looked up and eyed her with weariness.
"Do you think you are going to get a promotion by behaving like a drama queen?" he asked, getting up angrily.
Sasha could hear warning bells in the background and quietened.
"Sir...how can you marry that secretary? You will be humiliated in front of everyone. She's just a lowly employee-"
"Sasha," said a furious Maan, "I think you're forgetting the fact that you are an employee too. And you're the one crossing your limits right now, not Geet.
"Sir, may I enter?" Geet asked, pushing open the door. Sasha spun around, and walked out, her head held high with dignity. Geet timidly walked in as Maan nodded his head in assent.
As she placed some files on his table and began to walk back, her dupatta got stuck under the books. Maan bent forward to retrieve it at the same time she did. Their hands touched, and they could both feel currents reverberating throughout them. Maan instantly pulled his hand away, so did she.
As she walked forward, her dupatta pulled the files along, sending them crashing down to the floor. Before Maan could begin an outburst, Geet began to collect the files. Maan felt a strange urge to help her. As he bent forward, she looked up, and they exchanged an eyelock.
And that's when Maan remembered his first day in office...
Four years back
Maan sat down in his cabin, and surveyed the files in front of him/. How was he going to sort them out? At that point he could barely manage his employees' salaries, so he would have to play secretary for himself. He decided to phone HR and tell them to cancel the interviews scheduled for that day. Anyway no one had come, no one wanted to touch a job at Khurana Constructions even with a bargepole.
Suddenly the door opened, and a curly haired head peeked in, asking, "May I enter Sir?"
"I'm sorry, interviews are canceled-" Maan stopped. It was the same girl who he had encountered just a few days ago. He still felt mortified at having his graduation cap land on her."
"Sir please," she said, begging him with pleading eyes. "There is a shortage of jobs. I really need this sir. You can fix my salary if you want."
Maan wanted to outright reject her, but he decided to give it a shot. There was something magical about her which attracted him-though he hated to admit it.
"Okay, show me your resume," he said, and she handed over a blue file. He opened it and scanned the details.
Lianna Mehra...he thought, and closed the file.
"Nice credentials," he said. Both of them were desperate so he might as well as go for it. "The job is yours.
"Sir?" asked Geet, shaking Maan out of his dream world.
"Huh?" he asked.
"The files," she said, pointing to the table, where the stack had been neatly arranged.
"You can go now," he said irritably.
What a way to talk to your fiance, she muttered.
"What?" he asked, his eyes narrowed.
"Nothing," she said and exited before he could question her for more time.
