Deja vu ? Do you get Deja vu ?
Alia channeling Gangubai in this scene from RRKPK!!!
A/N: I guess today's episode really had an effect on me, because the last scene was written after watching today's episode and you can see it's aftereffects. I'd just like to say I'm not even sure why I wrote this chapter like this. I'm just really shocked at the way this turned out to be. Like really shocked. (Plus just by reading it you'll know that I did not proofread it, at all!)
Part 6: I do?
On Saturday...(During Armaan and Shilpa's meeting over lunch with their parents)
"Well, I would personally like to see them getting married." Anjali stated. She had called Rahul, Muskaan, and Atul over to her house, and asked them to bring extra clothes as they would be staying over for the weekend. Their parents had protested at first, but they all managed to convince them that it was for their post-graduation plans. Reluctantly their parents had said yes thinking that this was going to be their last year together.
"I second that." Atul replied grinning goofily.
"Hmm," Rahul spoke giving the idea some thought "I suppose it would help them into getting to understand and know each other."
"They've known each other for over a year;" Muskaan interjected "I'm sure that's enough time. What this marriage would help them do, however, would be to see each other's point of view."
"One year is not enough for knowing each other, Muskaan," Rahul spoke crossly "We all have known each other for over 4 years, and we still don't know each other all that well. Whereas, Shilpa just moved here a year ago and you expect her to know Armaan well? I admit he's not that complex of a guy, but there have been incidents in his past she's not aware of."
"I don't get it." Atul stated simply. "Are agreeing with me and Anjali or not?"
"Oh, they're agreeing all right, but what said Rahul is right." Anjali spoke getting up to turn on the stereo. She was a firm believer that music helped calm herself and everyone involved.
Muskaan made a face at Rahul, but said nothing back.
"Mhmm. What happened in our freshman and sophomore year still bothers Armaan; I can see it." Rahul spoke sitting up straight.
"That is true," Muskaan replied "I once even saw him staring at her old locker."
"What?" Atul asked surprised. "Really?"
"Yup," Muskaan replied "I wanted to ask him about it, but I decided to let it go."
"While I think that forcing them to marry each other could be beneficial; I think it can be dangerous for Shilpa. She looks a lot like her, and some of her habits are like her as well. Though, Shilpa is definitely more outspoken, and a lot more confident."
"Definitely, she never really challenged Armaan the way Shilpa does." Atul spoke nodding his head.
"That is true," Muskaan spoke looking over at Rahul "Oh, hello? What are you thinking?"
"Huh?" Rahul mumbled still in thought.
"Hello? Lost in Lala land?" Atul asked waving his hand in front of Rahul.
"What?" Rahul asked his head snapping up "No. I was just...thinking."
"Thinking about what?" Anjali asked looking at him curiously. She knew how observant Rahul was; he was able to notice things that everyone missed.
"There's something off about Shilpa, don't you think?" Rahul asked looking at Anjali. He knew that out of them four, she would be the first one to actually understand him. She was smart, and she didn't just dismiss things at a glance like Atul and Muskaan.
"Off about her? What do you mean?" Anjali asked her eyes visibly narrowing.
"He's right." Muskaan spoke backing him up.
"What?" Rahul and Anjali asked surprised at her statement.
Muskaan had her eyes lowered, unsure if what she was about to say was right or not.
"Muskaan," Anjali spoke noticing how unsure the other girl seemed "What do you mean?"
Muskaan looked up and surveyed the room warily, all eyes were upon her.
"I think she means that there's something about Shilpa that we don't know either; something that is a huge part of her life - or was." Atul spoke smiling at the surprised stares.
"That's what you both meant?" Anjali asked surprised that they all saw it, but not her.
Rahul and Muskaan nodded while Atul just stared at Anjali smiling.
"But I haven't noticed anything off about her." Anjali conversed.
"I didn't at first either," Rahul started.
"But some things that she does totally show that she's hiding something." Muskaan finished for him.
"Like, that time when Armaan teased her and called her a princess, did you notice how her whole body went stiff?" asked Atul.
"And whenever anyone touches her she flinches."
Anjali had a distant look in her eye, like she was contemplating what the trio sitting with her had just said.
"I think she's hiding something too. Something that might or might not be similar to Armaan's past." Muskaan spoke.
"But then again, everybody has a past," Rahul forced a smile "Some more bitter than others."
Muskaan didn't miss the tone Rahul spoke in, and Rahul didn't miss the look she gave him.
ooooooo
On Monday...(In the school courtyard)
"So, what do we do?" asked Atul.
"Well, we did agree that we all wanted them to get married." Muskaan grumbled. She had never been a morning person, and when Anjali had told them that they'd be going to school early she had refused to do so until she was thrown out of her bed. She had a habit of coming to school as late as she could without being late, and she was planning on sticking to that if only it wasn't for Anjali.
"I think we should push them into getting married, but before the wedding we could warn Shilpa to be careful." Rahul spoke considering his words very carefully.
"Well we could always do that." Atul spoke unsurely.
"We could, umm, tell her to, uhh, listen to what he says when he gets, umm, angry?" Rahul said making it sound more like a question.
"And you think that will work, why?" Muskaan asked him raising an eyebrow.
"She's right." Anjali spoke deep in thought.
"If we say something like that, she's more likely to ignore us." Muskaan replied.
"Why?" Rahul and Atul asked in unison.
"Are you guys for real? Have you been paying attention to anything that has been going on this year?" Muskaan asked perplexed.
"Umm, yes?" Rahul answered unsure.
Anjali and Muskaan looked at each and Muskaan spoke, "What were you thinking getting them involved? We would have done fine on our own."
"Clearly! I don't know what I was thinking." Anjali spoke shaking her head.
"Hey! We're still here you know." Atul replied.
Muskaan and Anjali sighed deeply, closed their eyes, and tried to imagine a world without Rahul and Atul. They were unsuccessful, partly because Rahul interrupted them midway.
"Ok look, do you think if you say something like that to Shilpa she'll agree?" Muskaan asked.
"Yes?" Rahul replied.
"No, she won't." Anjali replied "She doesn't believe in girls being bossed around by guys, or being treated inferior to guys, ok? So, clearly, if you word it like that she won't ever listen."
"I didn't think about that." Atul replied.
"Guys think?" Muskaan asked Anjali looked baffled by this new piece of information.
Anjali's mouth had formed a perfect 'O' before she spoke, "I never knew that!"
"Ok, ok, that's enough drama queens." Rahul snapped.
Muskaan made a face at him and Rahul made a face back. It went on like that for approximately two minutes unless Anjali lost her patience and yelled at them both.
"Clearly, this is going nowhere." Atul said stating the obvious.
"No, really?!" Anjali snapped her voice dripping with sarcasm. They were her best friends, and honestly she loved them to pieces, but they were really getting on her nerves right now.
"Ok, we're going off topic here." Rahul spoke.
"Thank you, Captain Obvious." Atul replied.
"You're welcome, Lieutenant Sarcasm." Rahul replied back.
"Ooooo, cat fight! Meow!" Muskaan sounded interested.
"It's not a cat fight, Muskaan. It's a manly debate." Rahul replied his cheeks showing visible signs of turning red.
"A manly debate over the topic of 'going off topic'?" Anjali raised an eyebrow.
"Yes." Rahul replied.
"Moving on," Atul finally snapped "We're going to force those two to get married, but we're going to warn Shilpa to be careful. Shouldn't we also say something to Armaan? Like don't go too far?"
"Armaan doesn't know the meaning of going too far, he's a guy." Anjali responded plainly.
"Actually, I think, we should do some investigating." Muskaan spoke yawning.
"Investigating? Who are we Sherlock Holmes?" Rahul retorted glaring at her.
"Nope, we're Bond. James Bond." Muskaan gave him a defiant yet sweet stare.
Atul and Anjali burst out laughing for no apparent reason; just watching those two fighting made then laugh. The glares switched its targets. Anjali and Atul shut up.
After two minutes of engaging in insightful thinking, Anjali finally spoke breaking the silence.
"Will forcing them into getting married actually work?"
"What?" Atul looked incredibly confused, but then again when did he not?
"Well, I was just thinking and what if when we force them to get married they respond by repulsing to idea?"
"That is a good point." Rahul commented.
"Exactly! What if, when we force them into getting married, they get suspicious of our behavior? Then they get even more convinced of the idea of getting married. Then the whole plan of them ever getting along will fail. But then if we try reverse psychology, what if that doesn't work on them, either? Clearly, they're not normal people, so reverse psychology will have the total opposite effect on them. Then, what if they get even more convinced of the idea of not marrying each other? Then our whole plan of ever having peace will ultimately fail. If we try to push them together, they're going to push back and not like the idea at all, but if we push them apart, they're going to go their separate ways again. Oh god! This is so hopeless! Why can't they be normal people like you and, uhh, umm, never mind that. Why can't they just give up whatever plan they're brewing and just get married? It will be better for all of us. They're going to be doing humankind a favor! Why can't they just do that and leave us be?!" Anjali ranted to no one in particular.
Atul, Muskaan, and Rahul stared at her like she had grown another head.
"Okay, you are over thinking this way TOO much." Atul replied his eyes wide.
"Anjali, let's go for a walk. Maybe that can clear you head," Muskaan spoke before muttering to herself, "Yeah, and maybe we can find you brain too."
"She has a point." Rahul spoke stroking his invisible beard.
"Rahul, I will take off my stilettos and hit you with them mercilessly if you don't shut up. Can't you see what this topic is doing to her?" Muskaan spoke bending down.
"Okay, okay, I'll stop." Rahul surrendered putting his hands up in the air.
"Good boy." Muskaan spoke patting his head absent-mindedly.
"Don't ruin my hair!" Rahul exclaimed slapping her hand away.
"God! You're more self-conscious than a girl." Muskaan made a face.
"Oh, as if you would know; you just pretend to be a girl. I know you're a guy dressed as a girl." Rahul yelled.
"I've had my fair share of bad experiences," Anjali spoke looking up at the sky "Please God, please, kill me with a bolt of lightning right now."
Atul ignored his friends around him, picked up a flower lying on the ground, and started playing with it.
ooooooo
A car screeched loudly as it swiveled and entered the parking lot. The heads of our 'fabulous' four snapped up, and they realized that the car was familiar, very familiar. It belonged to Armaan.
"Quick, stop doing whatever it is that you're doing," Anjali spoke with a certain urgency in her voice "They're coming! Act normal."
Everyone stopped what they were doing and looked at her quizzically as she burst into laughter.
"Uhh, you ok?" Rahul asked concern clearly written across his face.
Anjali managed to nod and then spoke, "I'm so stupid. I was...I was...asking you guys...you guys...to act normal."
They all glared at her, and Muskaan proceeded to say something but she noticed Armaan and Shilpa heading towards them. They looked different to her this time. They looked...different. There wasn't another word in her mind that described how they looked. They just looked - different.
The aura around Shilpa was giving off an air of confidence. She looked triumphant, victorious, and proud. As if she had just conquered the world.
Armaan, however, was smirking. It didn't seem like he had gained something or had conquered something, but it seemed like he was proud too. He looked like he was gloating on the inside about something. The air of pride around him made him look more arrogant; more egotistical.
They looked good together, she noticed. They complimented each other, and they definitely brought attention to themselves when they walked, no not walked, strutted alongside each other. They looked like that couple you'd only see on TV. The one that looked so good together that everyone around them envied them - wanted to be like them. She was sure that they could fulfill all criterion for a match made in heaven couple.
"Hi Armaan! Hi Shilpa!" Muskaan yelled, waving as she forced a smile. She secretly envied them at times too. She knew she wasn't being a very good person, but she longed for her prince charming, too; for her knight in shining armor to come and rescue her. Maybe she wasn't looking hard enough, or maybe she was looking too hard.
"Hey guys!" Shilpa spoke as she smiled at the people around her.
"Hey Shilpa! I see you and your knight in shining armor are here." Anjali grinned.
"My knight in shining armor?" Shilpa scoffed "My knight in shining armor turned out to be a loser in aluminum foil, but don't worry I'm sure yours will turn up someday too."
"What if he turns out to be like your knight in shining armor?" Muskaan questioned after sharing a knowing look with Anjali.
"Then your prince charming will come." Shilpa spoke as if it was the most obvious thing on Earth.
"Then what about your prince charming?" Atul asked raising his eyebrows.
"Him?" Shilpa asked looking uninterested "Oh, he took a wrong turn, got lost, and is too stubborn to ask for directions." (a/n: I'm sure I got that line from somewhere. I couldn't had made it up.)
"Sounds a lot like Armaan," Rahul spoke winking playfully at her.
"Armaan? Ugh. Over my dead body."
Armaan made a face at her, before turning to everyone. "As interesting as this conversation is, I have better things to do. And much better girls to rescue and save."
"Better girls?" Shilpa asked "Not a chance."
"As much as I'd like to join your sick fantasies about us, I'm not interested."
"Who said, anything about sick fantasies?"
"You don't have to say anything. I can read your mind."
"Oh, yeah, really?"
"Yup."
"Yeah, okay."
"Even if you can better girls, Armaan..." Rahul interjected but stopped as soon as he saw the murderous glare that Shilpa shot him.
"Not that you will find any better girls. No. Not at all. I was just..." Rahul continued only to earn a murderous glare from Armaan.
If looks could kill, Rahul Garewal would be a dead man, and the only man on Earth to die twice.
"What he means is," Muskaan continued "You and Shilpa are going to get married. So really, they're no chance for you to hit on another girl anymore."
"Who said we were getting married?" Shilpa asked forgetting all about her plan. Just thinking of getting married to Armaan made her naturally think of 'NO!'
"You guys should actually be happy, you know?" Armaan spoke "We're finally agreeing on one thing, but you know seeing how riled up she gets when someone just mentions the idea, I'm considering saying 'yes'."
"What?" Shilpa's eyes fell out of her sockets, and so did everyone else's at the table.
"What?" Armaan eyed her innocently.
"So, it's a yes from him!" Anjali ushered quickly before Armaan could even protest "What do you say, Shilpa? Come on, are you going to let the poor guy down."
Rahul had grabbed Armaan by now determined to not let him say anything; anything that could potentially ruin this situation or affect her answer.
"Atul, got duct tape?" Rahul asked.
"Here" Atul handed him a long piece of silver tape.
Rahul firmly taped Armaan's mouth shut, while holding his arms in place effortlessly. Armaan squirmed and struggled in Rahul's grip, but Atul got the message and decided to help Rahul.
"Not a chance, handsome." Rahul spoke to the struggling Armaan. Shilpa choked on the water, while Muskaan gently patted her on the back.
"Daaamn! I never knew I was friends with two, not so straight, guys." Anjali teased.
"So, let's hear your answer, Shilpa." Rahul spoke smirking ignoring Anjali's comment.
"Yup, considering that Armaan had said yes, what will you say?" asked Muskaan aware that almost everyone in the courtyard was staring at her and her friends.
"Come on, Shilpa, we've only got 3 minutes before school starts." Anjali urged her to answer.
"Well," Shilpa smirked at the Armaan sitting in front of her; the one who was telling her to say no as best as a person duct taped could say. "Hmm, I would have to say...yes."
"It's final, then" Muskaan spoke grinning from ear-to-ear "They're getting married."
"Wait, what?" Shilpa asked surprised, and Armaan ripped the duct tape off his mouth.
Anjali pulled out her Creative Zen from underneath the table, the microphone still recording.
"You didn't..." Shilpa started but was cut off by Anjali's nod.
"Oh, yes I did."
"So, what?" Armaan asked.
"Well your parents are going to be hearing this, after I edit it of course."
"You wouldn't..." Shilpa started again but was cut off by Anjali's nod, again.
"Psh. So what?" Armaan looked unaffected.
"Well, they'll think you guys want to get married, and we'll make up a lie." Muskaan answered for Anjali.
"Yup," Rahul looked smug "Something along the lines that you and Shilpa secretly liked each other but didn't want to tell your parents. In the end, however, you both had planned to say yes to the marriage."
"Okay, so what if they hear it?" Shilpa gained her confidence back "They can't have me married off to him without my permission."
"We might also add a bit about you guys still "pretending" to hate each other." Atul smirked for the first time in his life.
"They wouldn't believe you!" Armaan yelled.
Riiiing
"Sorry, gotta go!" Anjali grabbed her messenger bag.
'Yup! Later guys" Muskaan waved.
"Bye guys, See you later!" Atul smiled.
"See you at lunch, Mr. and Mrs. Mallik." Rahul mocked.
"It's all 'cause of you! I told you to say no! But nooo! Why would you listen to me!" Armaan yelled at Shilpa.
"You're forgetting that you're the one who say 'yes' first!" Shilpa screamed back at him. The courtyard was now empty, but the two teens didn't care.
"So what? I just said that to bother you!"
"And I said that to bother you too!"
"Well, it bothered me alright! Can't you ever just listen to me? Would it kill you?!"
"Yes, it would kill me! Why should I listen to you anyways? You don't own me!"
"Oh, but I will soon!" Armaan got up anger evident on his face "Just one time, just once I was asking for something."
"Why should I even listen to you? After the way you treated me, do you think anybody in their right mind would comply with what you say, if they were in my place?!?!"
"Yeah, whatever. It was all your fault."
"MY FAULT?! HOW WAS IT MY FAULT!?"
"Are you really raising your voice at your husband?" Armaan asked moving towards her. He grabbed her arm and twisted it behind her back. She twisted her hand in his grip and struggled to get free, but didn't give him the pleasure of asking him to let her go despite how much it hurt. She was certain, completely certain, that her arm was now red.
"If I were you, I wouldn't do that. You really shouldn't be raising your voice at your husband, honey." He had continued moving forward with every step she took backward. His voice had turned deadly again, and his once light eyes were darker than she ever remembered them.
"Let. Me. Go." Shilpa spoke, closing her eyes after the pain has became unbearable; her voice was calm and low and sounded strange even to her own ears.
"And what if I don't?" Armaan asked his voice lower than she remembered "After all, you'll be mine after a few short weeks. I would own you, and you will do what I say."
"Armaan. Let. Me. Go." Shilpa said again and was surprised to see him let go of her hand.
What surprised her even more was that as soon as he let her go, her other hand came in contact with his cheek.
She gasped when she heard the loud sound her slap caused.
Armaan's face turned towards slowly, and his eyes darkened even more, if that was possible.
"You shouldn't have done that. You really shouldn't have done that." Armaan spoke his voice coming out low, and fatal.
Before she could even process what was happening he had once again twisted her arm behind her back, but this time her back was against his chest. His lips near her ear, and she could feel his breath on her neck. Shilpa honestly didn't know what was going on. She had never seen Armaan like this, and even though the Armaan at the restaurant had scared her she was completely comfortable with him. This Armaan, however, scared her to death.
She had temporarily closed her eyes, bracing for the worst, but the pain that shot through her arm caused her to gasp and open them.
"Armaan. Let me go, please." Shilpa mentally cringed at how close to tears her voice had sounded.
"Mr. Mallik. Ms. Malhotra. What are you two still doing in the courtyard? Class started 15 minutes ago!" The principal's voice echoed around the empty grounds they were surrounded by. They had completely forgotten where they were.
Armaan let go of Shilpa and she twisted around to face the principal clutching her arm with one hand, nursing it.
"Go to the office immediately and get your late slips, and detention in my office today after school for 15 minutes." The principal spoke sternly livid by the lack of response to his questions.
"Yes, sir" They both responded and head of to their respective classes.
A/N: Yes, I know it's a really, really long update, probably 'cause I'd have to think before writing the next chapter. Normally, I'm never really thinking while writing these. I just start writing when I'm urged to and it just flows from there, and then ends when I think it's enough. But clearly, I'd really have to give some thought for the next chapter, and think about what's going to happen. Sorry, for my ranting, but I'm really shocked at this chapter's ending. I really should finish these chapter before watching the next day's episode! Argh. Sorry, but the next update might not be up, until like Friday. Thanks to anyone who reviews or replies! It really, really means A LOT to me. Honestly, like A LOT! Thanks again :]
