~~~~~~Part 21: Dilemma ~~~~~~~~

Mayank is in a dilemma. He is still sore from the news that Nupur is now married and with the current condition of his mum and her wish…it is too much to bear he feels. Walking around the streets..lost and confused Mayank is trying to figure a way out of this. He feels suffocated by the pressure and at the same time hurt by the loss of his beloved. Suddenly he feels a tap on his shoulder and as he looks around he finds a smiling but familiar face…

R: Hi Mayank! How are you? pehchana mujhe!!!
M: (Mayank..lost in his thoughts tries hard to recognise her but fails) ..ermm
R: arre main Riya hoon…bhul gaye kya? hum ek hi college me parhte the..saath saath..remember! college me tumne kitni baar meri madad ki thee imtihaan paas kerwaane me. phir main further studies k liye US chali gayi. bas 2 hafte pehle hi lauti hoon..purane friends ko dhoondh rahi thee k tum mil gaye. I am so glad to see you..(and in great excitement she gives Mayank a tight hug)
M: (feeling quite awkward somehow releases himself from Riya) ha haa ab yaad aaya Riya. kaisi ho tum? its good to see you back as well. You have changed a lot
R: ohh really? Shall I take it as a compliment? (she winks at Mayank)
M: (smiles back) of course…
R: per tumnain kya haal bana rakkha hai apna? college me to har larki ki dhadkan the tum..aur ab to tumhe pehchaan na mushkil hai. are you alright?
M: yeah…I am fine. bas zindagi me kuch uljhane aagaye hai jinko suljha nahi paa raha hoon.
R: uljhan? kaisi uljhan?
M: Abhi Na Chaer Muhabbat Kay Geet Aey Muttrib….Abhi Hayat Ka Mahaul Khushgavar Nahin
R: ahh..to janab ka shayeri ki aadat abhi tak hai. kher kuch to hai tumhara jo abhi tak nahi badla aur yeh dekh ke bohat accha laga. chalo…ghar chalte hai. we have so much catching up to do!
M: aaj nahi Riya, phir kabhi. maa ki tabiyet thik nahi hai. but I promise we'll catch up soon. ok? to ab main chalta hoon
R: yeah…take care..bye
M: bye!

Riya watches him leave as she recalls the college days. Riya, like many other girls in college, had a huge crush on him. But they remained good friends as Riya could never express her feelings to Mayank in the fear of losing their friendship. Seeing him after so many years, her heart starts yearning again to get close to him but then again she wonders why is he a wreck? What has happened to him that he looks so lost and confused? As if he has been hit by a storm or something. She has to know all the details…no matter what. But this time she is not going to let him go again…she says to herself.

Few days have passed by and Shilpa has now been discharged from the hospital. Nupur did continue her visits at the hospital but she kept silent about the marriage proposal. Shilpa noticed that and deliberately did not ask Nupur anything as she wanted to give her the time to consider this without any pressure. On top of it all, Mayank has not yet agreed which has yet again put her into a fix. Upon her return at home, Mayank helps her to settle down in her bedroom when Shilpa raises the topic again..

S: main soch rahi thee k kuch dino k liye tere mama ke yahan jaake rahoo.
M: kyun? mama ke yahan kyun? aur woh bhi achanak? aur tumhari tabiyet bhi to thik nahi hai. wahan tumhara khayal kaun rakkhega?
S: yahan bhi mera khayal kaun rakkhega?
M: maa main hoon na! tum kya abhi tak mujhse naraaz ho? maine maafi to maang li hai tumse. aainda se aisa nahi karoonga
S: maafi maang li hai per baat nahi maani abhi tak
M: kaunsi baat nahi maani tumhari maa?
S: shaadi wali baat
M: maa maine keh diya hai tumse k main shaadi nahi karoonga to phir kyun yeh zabardasti?
S: accha? ek maa ka apne bete ke liye bhala sochna …usska fiker karna ab zabardasti hogaya? kya mera tujhpe koi haq nahi hai Mayu?
M: aisa kyun keh rahi ho tum maa. tumhe poora haq hai per main ab shaadi k liye tayyar nahi hoon
S: shaadi k liye tayyari ki zaroorat nahi hoti Mayu. teri zindagi me jo toofan aaya hai usse tu ab akela nahi sanbhal sakta. tujhe ek saathi ki zaroorat hai jo tera dukh dard baant sake aur Nupur se acchi koi larki ho hi nahi sakti tere liye. beta baat jab bhi teri zindagi ki hui to maine kabhi bhi jaldi me koi faisla nahi liya. yeh faisla bhi soch samajhke kiya hai maine. tujhe mujh per bharosa hona chahiye, hai na bharosa Mayu?
M: maa mujhe poora bharosa hai tum per…magar
S: koi agar magar nahi…main kal hi jaake Nupur ki gharwalon se baat chalaoongi

Mayank has no other choice. He realises how much pain he has put his mum through and her determination to get him married off is not something he can change in anyway and anytime soon. So he decides to give in to him mum's wishes…

M: tumhe jo behter lage maa tum wohi karo (and he leaves the room)

Shilpa takes a sigh of relief. Now she can go and talk to Nupur. So next day, she decides to show up at Nupur's house. Seeing Shilpa at her house, Nupur gets overwhelmed and rushes to receive her..

N: arre aunty..aap? achanak? aur iss haal me? humain bula liya hota
S: tujhe surprise jo karna tha
N: I am surprised aunty. aayye…baithiye yahan per. (she calls the servants and orders for tea and snacks)
S: aree bacchi tu chain se baith..kya laga rakkha hai. mehmaan hoon kya main?
N: arre aunty aap mehmaan hote to thori na aisi khaatirdaari karti aapki…aap to meri maa ho jo pehli baar apni beti se milne usske ghar aayi hai.
S: jeeta rahe beta. Khuda tujhe hamesha khush rakkhe. tujhe jab bhi dekhti hoon dil ko ek sukoon sa milta hai
N: aunty aap bas aise hi hamesha apna haath hamare sir pe rakkha kare aur humain ashirwaad dete rehiye.
S: beta…hum tumhare papa se milne aaye the per usse pehle unnse miloo, maine socha tumse pooch loon k kya faisla kiya hai tumne.

Nupur becomes quiet…and after a while she whispers..

N: isse pehle hum apni marzi bataye hum Mayank ji ka faisla sunna chahte hai. unke saath jo bhi hua usske bawajood bhi kya woh iss rishte ko apna paayenge? kya woh raazi honge?
S: woh tu mujhpe chhor de…woh mera beta hai aur usski zindagi ka faisla karne ka haq abhi tak mujhe hai.
N: nahi aunty…zabardasti se rishta jorna kya sahi hoga?
S: tu nahi samjhegi beti..zindagi ka tajaurba mujhe tum dono se zyada hai. main jaanti hoon…ab jo usse zabardasti ka rishta lag raha hain kal ussi rishte ko woh apne sir aankhon se sarahega. mujhpe bharosa rakh beta. Mayank mera ek lauta baccha hai aur tujhe bhi maine apni beti se kam nahi maana hai. agar maine yeh faisla liya hai tum dono ko lekar to kuch soch samajhke hi liya hoga na. tu dekhna mera beta tujhe hamesha khush rakkhega aur isski gurantee main leti hoon. bas tu apni marzi bataa mujhe..
N: (shies away) jaisa aap behter samjhe aunty. humnain aapko apni maa maana hai…agar aap samajhti hai k iss faisle se hum sab khush reh sakte hai to humain koi aitraaz nahi. aap papa se baat kar lijiye…agar woh raazi ho jaate hai to humain koi mushkil nahi
S: jeeta rahe beti …aaj tune iss maa ka daman khushiyon se bhar diya hai

And so the arrangements begin. Shilpa talks to Nupur's papa and they agree on a date for the wedding. With all the arrangements and celebrations, Mayank's heart is heavy with Nupur's memories and her thoughts. Not only did she take a step out of his life but now he too is about to take a leap in his life but he wonders…can he ever forget her? Can he ever replace her position with someone else? On the other end, Nupur is also sunk in thoughts..its a challenge. Did she make the right decision? Will Mayank ever be able to come out of his sorrow and accept his new life? They both wonder as to what is in store for them in the near future.
