PART - 8:
Raj and Naina were sitting in a corner giving all the impression that they were relaxing after the dance. However in reality, Raj was checking with Chaube if everything was all right.
Naina: Kuch pata chala?
Raj: Abhi tak to nahi. Par mujhe aisa kyun lag raha hai ki wo spy kahin mere aas paas hi hai?
Naina: Hume ye bhi nahi pata ki wo karne kya wala hai. Toh fir usse roke tokaise roken?
Raj opened his mouth to say something but fell silent as he saw Suriji climb up the stairs with a mike in his hand.
"Attention please. Ab baari hai Mr. aur Ms. Fresher announce karne ki. To iss saal ke Mr. Fresher hain ………………….. Cadet Aalekh.
Everybody cheered for Aalekh. Neelu hugged him in excitement and then patted him. Raj and Naina swarm through the crowd to reach upto him and congratulate him. Huda flushed in anger as he couldn't understand how Aalekh could be declared the Mr. Fresher with Huda around. To make matters worse, Ritu was completely drunk and leaned onto him for support. It irritated him further
"Aur Ms. Fresher hain ……………………. Cadet Naina Singh."
Suriji completed the announcement. Raj gave a side hug to Naina and pushed her through the crowd to get her badge. Everybody surrounded the two cadets congratulating them. Amidst this noise nobody saw Lolita ma'm join Suriji on the stairs. It was only when she drew attention of the cadets that the noise subsided.
"Cadets, there is still one more title left."
She announced. Everybody knew what it was and who had won it, but still they waited for her to confirm it.
"And …. It is the Best Couple of The Evening."
Many heads nodded in agreement.
"And the best couple of the evening are …........... yes, you all are right cadets. They indeed are Captain Shekhawat and Cadet Naina Singh."
Huda's face showed no other emotion other than anger.
"Iss captain ne mujhse meri Phoolan ko cheen liya. Isse to mai nahi chodunga."
He promised to himself angrily.
Rajveer and Naina were meanwhile surrounded by a host of students who were congratulating them.
Many of them were forcing Raj and Naina to dance for a last time and though they were trying hard to escape, they couldn't.
Naina: Nahi please, aur dance nahi kar sakti, please.
"Oh come on Naina, please. One last time."
One of the cadets pleaded.
"Cadets, its all right. Aap log dance kijiye, hum log yahin par hain. Its okk."
"No, it is not. Best Couple aap dono hain Sir, isliye ek dance to aapko karma hi padega."
Thus forced by all, Raj looked at Naina helplessly as if to tell her that he couldn't do anything and asking her for permission. Naina glanced at him and nodded in agreement. But her mind was not in it. Something was very odd, some memories which she never forgot. Just for the time being, she had hid them in the cupboard of her mind, but they were her constant companions. She saw Rajveer look at her and nodded in agreement. He led her to the podium.
Rajveer looked at her, but she seemed to be lost. Or was she hesitating? Her hands were clasped together and she was winding and unwinding the fingers, as if in nervousness. He didn't know.
He softly took hold of her right hand to bring her closer to him. She was not responding. He applied a slight pressure and she was pulled closer to him, her arms around his neck, his one hand around her waist, the other hand still clasping her hand. He slightly pushed her in the opposite direction, still not letting off her hand, and then spun her around once before bringing her back into the fold of his arms.
("One minute Cadet Huda. Abhi abhi aapne kaha tha na ki Cadet Singh agar aapke saath ball me nahi gayi to koi bhi inke saath nahi jayega? Thik hai, ab mai aapko ek baat batata hun. Cadet Singh ball me jarur jayengi aur unhe koi nahi rok payega. ")
("Veer, aap ghar nahi aa rahe?
"Tum rahogi kya ghar pe, with your summer camps and karate practice?"
"Nahi, but aap aaye to shayad cancel kar dun."
"Nahi, you wont cancel anything. Ye jyada jaruri hai tumhare liye. We will meet some other time."
"Promise?"
"Yes, I promise.")
O soniye
Naina looked at Rajveer in wonder.
("Who are you Cadet?"
"W…o …sir ….Naina Ah … Singh"
"Naina Ah … Singh!!! Interesting")
O baliye
("Oh! I see. Waise aap kaun bol rahe hain?"
Due to the screams from the other end of the phone, she couldn't hear the full name. She only heard VEER.
"Ok! To mai aapko Veer bulaungi. Chalega?"
"Daudega." Came the reply which made her grin)
O soniye
Rajveer pulled her into his arms and then quickly pushed her back. Their hands joined and he twirled her around once.
Oye dance pe
("Are you all right?")
dance pe
("Meri baat maniye,bhaiya ko adhi raat ko pyaas lagti hai. Unko pareshan karne ke liye jyada kuch nahi karma padega, bas chupke se paani ka glass hata dena.")
Da da da dance pe chance maar le
Naina kept staring at Rajveer as she matched steps with him. He was truly a wonderful dancer. But why was her past catching up???
O soniya dance pe chance maar le
O baliye dance pe chance maar le
O soniya dance pe chance maar le
("Veer, please mat chidao na. Mai waise hi bahut pareshan hun."
"Wahi toh mai bhi janna chahta hun Naina ki tumhari pareshani ki wajah kya hai.")
ho ho hey…
("Arey, mere khadus teacher ne insurgency aur terrorism par project diya hai, par mere paas sufficient materials nahi hai."
"Acha, to meri princess iss wajah se pareshan hai!!!"
"Haan Veer, kuch samajh nahi aa raha kya karun."
"Mai bataun, chup chap so jao. Aur kal subah apna email check kar lena. Bye.")
Peeche peeche aaya
She turned back and took a couple of steps forward.
("Kaise nahi jana chahti Cadet Singh? Ye tum logon ka pehla function hai academy me. Tum jaogi, jarur jaogi.")
Teri chaal ve da aaya
("Tumhe ball dance mai sikhaunga.")
("Meri princess aaj jhagda karke aayi hai. Aisa kya kaha tumse uss ladke ne?")
Raj caught hold of her hands and pulled her back.
Aaya aaya aaya aaya….
Peeche peeche aaya
Teri chaal ve da aaya
Aaya aaya aaya aaya….
Her back was now pasted on his chest and she half turned her head to meet him in the eyes.
Dance pe
("I'm warning you, stop thinking as if I'm doing you a favour by escorting you to the ball.")
dance pe
("I have told you before and I'm telling you now once again 'It is my pleasure that you are my date for the ball.")
Dance pe chance maar le
O soniya dance pe chance maar le
("So please, stop twisting a simple fact into a complex one, will you?")
Haule haule
He let her down and spun her around.
("Meri baat puri nahi hui hai Cadet Singh. If you don't mind, may I have the pleasure of accompanying you to the fresher's ball?")
haule haule
Naina stood on the middle of the dance floor, confused at the way her mind was working. Raj came from behind and put his arms on her waist. That brought her back to her senses.
("Dance sikhne ka sabse acha tarika ye hai ki music band karke dance karo. Apne dil me chupi dhun ko suno aur uss par dance karo.")
Haule haule
("Please princess, naraaz mat ho na. Class chal rahi thi, thoda late ho gaya call karne me. Maan jao, pleeaasssseeeeeee.")
haule haule
("May I ... have the pleasure?")
Rab ne rab ne rab ne rab ne
He lifted her up in his arms, his powerful muscles taking her whole weight off her feet.
Rab ne rab ne rab ne rab ne
He then slowly let her slide down. Then he spun her around to face him and twirled her once.
Rab ne rab ne rab ne bana di jodi haaye
Raj again pulled her into the cage of his arms with his left hand securely wrapped around her slender waist and her right arm around his neck. He then dipped her on his left arm and the music ended with both of them looking into each other's eyes oblivious of their surroundings.
Slowly Naina straightened up and disengaged herself from Rajveer blushing slightly as thunderous claps, bangs and whistles rent the air.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The song ended signaling the end of the dance. Raj got down from the stage and helped Naina to descend.
"Okay cadets, maine aap ki baat rakhi. Ab aap meri baat maaniye."
Rajveer turned towards his cadets.
"Ji Sir, boliye na, kya baat hai?" Kamraan asked.
"Is sham sabne dance kiya hai sirf ek Jodi ko chodkar. Aap logon ko unse dance karwana padega."
"Aap kiski baat kar rahe hain sir?"
"Cadet Huda aur Dr. Mishra ki."
Naina looked at Rajveer in surprise.
"Sir, ye aap kya kar rahe hain?" she whispered.
"Dekhti jao Naina, ek trailer se kya gabhrana."
"Lekin Sir, Dr. Mishra ne toh buri tarah pi rakhi hai. She is completely drunk. Wo dance karna toh dur, khadi tak hone ki haalat me nahi hai."
"Isi bahane hum unhe aur Huda ko yahan se bhaga sakte hain. Waise bhi jitne kam log yahan rahen, utna hi acha."
"I understand sir." And she really did.
Even in the midst of the celebrations, Rajveer's mind was revolving around the unknown Mr. X. The respect which she held for him increased many fold.
When Dr. Mishra was found, she was in an inebriated state. Rajveer sent Huda and a couple of other cadets with her to her room.
"It had become quite late. The crowd had begun thinning. But Rajveer was having troubles in tracking down the exact problem. In between, he suddenly remembered that Naina was with him.
"Arey Naina, kaafi der ho gayui hai. Chalo mai tumhe tumhare room tak chod dun."
"Nahi sir, mujhe nahi lagta ki iss situation me aapka yahan se hatna thik hoga. Aap independence day wale haadse ko bhul toh nahi gaye?"
"Nahi Naina, par tum kitni der yahan rukogi?"
"Jab tak hume kuch pakka pata nahi chal jata ki aaj yahan kya hone wala hai."
Naina said firmly.
"Magar Naina ye khatarnak hoga. Mai tumhe kisi musibat me dalna nahi chahta." Rajveer protested.
"Sir, mai yahan ek sipahi banne ki training lene aayi hun. Aur khatra toh har sipahi ke zindagi ka hissa hota hai na. Hume yahan khatron se nipatna hi toh sikhaya jata hai aur fir iss practical training se achi training mujhe kahan mil sakti hai?"
"Par Naina..."
"Sir, please. Mujhe yahin rehne dijiye na aapke saath. Aakhir aaj sham aapki date hone ka itna fayada toh mujhe hona chahiye na." Naina said with a smile.
"Fayada? Ye fayada hai ya nuksaan?" Rajveer was surprised as well as amused at her enthusiasm for dangers.
"Sochne ka apna apna tarika hai." Naina shrugged her shoulders.
Rajveer looked at her for some time in surprise, then smiled in agreement.
"Tumhare zazbe ki mai daad deta hun, par yaad rakhna Naina, jung humesha enthusiasm se nahi jiti jaati. Uske liye zajbe ke saath saath samajhdari bhi honi chahiye."
"Aur wo mai aapse sikhna chahti hun sir. Aur sikhne ke liye isse acha mauka kahan se milega sir?"
Rajveer was about to say something, just then his attention was drawn towards the bar. Dr. Shalini and Cadet Yudi were standing there talking to each other. However it was the bartender who caught Raj's attention. He was the same person with whom Raj had collided earlier in the evening.
"How come I hadn't noticed this earlier?" he wondered.
"Not noticed what?" Naina asked.
"Naina, look at the bartender. Do you remember him?"
There was a pause and then suddenly Naina jumped up, "Arey, ye toh wahi waiter hai na jo aapse takraya tha?"
"Haan, par maine dhyan kyun nahi diya?"
"Kyunki bartender change ho gaya hai. Ye wo nahi hai jisne hume serve kiya tha... aur... aur wo dekhiye sir, wo chupke chupke kahan khisak raha hai?"
Naina was right, because the bartender was slipping away.
"Sir, kyun na Yudi ko isko rokne ke liye kahen?"
