Don't look at her-
Just don't look at her-
Mayank fought the inner turmoil, feeling a sense of anticipation mixed with guilt. He was trying to find a spot to fix his eyes on when Diya spoke.
"You could have changed Mayank-You look like you are in a board meeting or something."
He barely heard her.He needed to keep his focus up- Don't look- Its dangerous.
But even as he fought he knew it was easier said than done-
"There must be something wrong with you- We cant be sharing the same genes- Where you mixed up in the hospital by my chance?"
He scowled, rolling his eyes.My retarded sister Diya.
And then she laughed- the tinkling sound he had so missed –
Immediately as though by some magnetic pull his eyes found her and all thoughts rushed out.She was dressed in a blood red saree- with a gold pendant resting on her neck. Her soft pink skin was just visible around her neck as that gave way to her full lips. Her lips were painted a dark red and it was beautiful. He had difficulty making his eyes move up- The lips captivated his focus. They were so beautiful and inviting.
He heard Diya say something but his brain had stopped working. He saw her lips part and his heart speeded-They looked so soft- would they feel the same?
Wrenching his mind with a huge effort he looked up- Her skin was flushed with a pretty blush and her eyes were downcast.Gulping hard he stared at her hair let open –He wish he knew how it would smell.
Someone waved a hand infront of him.
"Are you even listening to what I am saying?" said a familiar voice.
Sense returned and with that a desire to slap himself. What was he doing here- He was not here to stare at Nupur- He was here to- Good question – why was he here?
"Of course not.Who with any sense ever listens to you anyway D'doll?"he said trying to inject normalcy.
There again- she laughed and once again the sound made his eyes turn to her lips.
"Beautiful"he said
"What?"came a hurried question.
He cursed himself and coloured with embarrassment as he saw Diya look at him intently.
"You look beautiful D'doll. All grown up-"he said.
Diya smiled in her special way.
"You still have some sense Mayank Sharma- sometimes I think maybe you could be good enough to called my brother."
She looked between them.
"And why are you not speaking to each other-Or am I supposed to be the only one talking-"
He shook his head and smiled at Nupur.
"Hi.."
She smiled back tentatively.
"Hello- We would be leaving for the venue as soon as all our relatives get here-" she said nervously- Her fingers worked on her bangles-"Please make yourself comfortable- I need to get to Gunjan-And I will give you the juices- soon-"
"Nonsense-"called Diya."We can serve ourselves"
Mayank nodded.
"Yes we can.You spend time with Gunjan."
She nodded shyly and then lifted her eyes to smile at him.
"Thanks for coming."
He felt a strange exhilaration- Like someone had handed him the newest bestseller on the stand-or that he had finally gotten the contract for the housing society he so craved-and all she did was smile at her.
