I am not being casteist here. Just trying to understand why Karna always chose a wrong occasion to prove his valor. For eg after Arjun wins all the Kings attack him including Karna but the moment Arjun starts retaliation he walks away saying I'll not fight this foremost of Brahmans. When they attacked they knew he was a Brahman

During gandharva attack, gets defeated by chitrasen and runs away. During virat war gets defeated by Arjun

So basically except defeating Jarasanda in kalinga swayamvar and KK he didn't do anything much to earn any respect, except challenging Arjun in a sports arena and trying his luck at Draupadi swayamvar and bot places gets insulted. the places where his caste would not matter, but his valor only would earn him respect he failed

P.s. I am not Arjun fan and I am not comparing Karna with Arjun

I don't think he Arjuna 'won' from Karna at the swayamvar, they fought evenly and Karna retreated back, if retreating can be classified as defeat I am can give atleast 1 instance from KK war where Arjuna retreated seeing Karna destroying the Pandava ary and warriors.

Didn't Karna defeated almost every king for Duryodhana?, if defeating many kings, defeating Jarasandha and defeating almost every king for Duryodhana doesn't count as achievements, I am not sure what would.

I guess u can take it either way. Yuyutsu, is mentioned - Is it Dhrit's son (seems like D's son) or someone else. If it is DHrit's son, How can he also come to claim her hand, considering the fact that he is not Kshatriya. IIRC, Karna comes accompanied by one of his sons. Did he participate or just Karna?

So does this mean that Drupad did invite non Kshatriya's to participate or to be just part of the crowd?

Acc to CE, Karna was there with Duyodhana. But he did not take part in it. Interestingly, Charudeshna was there with Krishna & Balarama.

@ashne - it is in the novel Mrityunjaya, Karna came to swayamvara with his son.

Snipping it to discuss the relevant portion

If Karna did not care about the state of war, the question arises why was he in the war. A single combat with Arjun could have happened even outside.

I had the same doubt about Bheeshma as well. If my commander-in-chief comes and tells me that he would not kill my biggest enemies then it's clear that I am not going to win.

Maybe Dury had a brain fade there or maybe he thought that since Pandavas respected Bheeshma they would not kill him and after days of stalemate might come to the negotiating table.

Charudeshna is another name for Pradyumna according to HV.

@ Sanskruti, Karna was probably in mid 30s by SV.. And except for Veda Vyasa, no one seems to have clearly known where the Pandavas were. They had to be drawn out.

@PirateKing
Arjun had to agree to a meaningless battle and even more meaningless death for one or the other of them. I may be quite wrong in this, since I haven't read up on minute details of all the mini battles, but Savyasachi never went to war without an aim in mind, I think.Other than just victory over the other dude, I mean

I wonder what it was in Karna's life that made him fixate on Arjun.

So Karna coming with his son is not there in currently accepted versions of MB? He just accompanied Dury?

A qs - what if one is called out for a duel? Why didn't Karna call Arjun for a duel. Wouldn't that have solved his problem, Arjun would have had to accept it (I think). Either one would have survived.

Thats what I was saying. I don't remember reading Arjun accepting an invitation to duel except with Shiva. But that was for a purpose as well.
There may be people who know better, so please do post
