Not social reformation initially. Enlightened self interest protecting the subcontinent from invaders. For that he needed a united Empire and the destruction of power centers. After the DS, I think it became social reformation.
Panchali. The thing is, to figure out someone's motives, you have to first know who they are. Panchali is the one person in the epic without a past.
2 possibilities come to.mind
1) She was Drupad's bio daughter and Gs pawn, put in place where he could guide the Emperor through her and then became vengeful virago.
The problem with this theory is that it assumes Panchali had zilch for brains (most pro Kaurava authors take this tack). Take a look at the Drau-Saya convo. She clearly says she manages the palace, the Brahmins, the money in the Empire, listens to the grievances of the citizens etc etc. And she adds that she does all this while the Pandavas 'pursue their virtue'😆.
If she is clearly clever enough to manage an empire that size, I don't think G could have managed to manipulate her to that level.
And I don't see the logic in IBs theory of hiding her away from childhood if she was Drupad's daughter.
2) That leads me to the 2nd possibility. She had a past that made her recognizable, at least by name. That had to be erased. In which case she would have been part of the initial plot.
Well they both learned their lesson after the DS.
The problem with the theory that G wanted Yadavas to rule is that without accepting divinity as part of the equation, G would have had no idea that Yadavas would rule. As far he knew, it would be the YuDi progeny.
