A few hours into the night..
Rana Indravarden took action to put an end to the drama that very evening. He asked for his council to provide him with all tax related information, and when all books were correct he went the extra mile and summoned the family Gayatri had spoken of. Nothing, either everything was cleverly covered up by Kuwar chacha sa or Gayatri had misinterpreted. His heart didn't want to believe the latter but he couldn't change the facts he was presented with either.
He took another exhausted look at the books again, the paper work was impeccable throwing to a side the file to hand nothing showed fowl play but when one of his men asked for permission to enter the room Rana hoped it would be something to help gayatri's case.
The man stopped behind Ranas chair to quietly share his intel. "Maharani ne mana kar di hai hukhum". ("The queen has refused to apologize to kuwar sa your highness". )
Sighing, Ranaji takes a seat back in his chair to contemplate on the situation and a fitting punishment for his wife.

Her stomach churned inside at the thought of what would happen when she had to confront him and tell him she had gone against his wishes.
She was too strong willed and no matter how much she tired she couldn't bring herself to apologize to that excuse of a man kuwar sa. She knew he was in the wrong and she wouldn't stand before him and give his ego the benefit of the doubt.
She had this nervous feeling within her ever since her inability to provide an apology like Ranaji had demanded. She was worried about his reaction, his disappointment, his anger.
His anger didn't bother her it was the thought of letting him down, of disrespecting his wishes, of causing him embarrassment, all the things she had never dreamed of doing but had done today.
It was late into the night and Ranaji hadn't returned to their room and Gayatri walked out into the corridors of a very silent and just about lit raj mahel.
She stopped at the entrance of his study, the doors of the room wide open for her to see him with his posture back in his chair. He seemed to have opted to be alone and she wasn't going to intrude. Knowing his whereabouts was enough for her but as she put foot forward to leave she was stopped by a very candid tone of voice.
"Gayatri" she was always left stunned at the way he was able to sense her presence.
"Ji Maharaj" (yes your highness)
A little hesitant to approach but as soon as he turned his expression to her in the chair his eyes asked her to approach. She didn't know what to expect that was for sure but as she stood eyes down in front of him..she looked up a little to see very kind eyes that understood her. He didn't question her or show any anger, he simply accepted her choices like he had accepted her into his life.
Aap jaanti hai na ke ham aap se bohot pyaar karte hai - (I love you a immensely you know that don't you.) It may have seemed a little spontaneous he realized that.
She knew why he was saying this because tomorrow she was going to see a different side of him one she had compelled him to show but that was a settled matter now. It was done. She didn't want to think about that but rather cherish that look of affection in his eyes for her in this very moment. His words were ever so comforting she looked at him in acknowledgment but she had other concerns that were occupying her mind.
"Ek saval puch sakte hai?" She said ever so tenderly gaining all his attention.
He hoped she wouldn't ask him about his choice of punishment for her because he was in cross fire over the whole thing himself. Nothing hurt him more than to make a choice like that but she didn't.
"Agar aap meri jage hote toh aap kya kar te.." what would you have done if you were me?
He was going to be honest with her because honesty is one thing Rana Indravarden Singh Deo stood for. "Shaayad wohi joh aap ne kiya" (Probably the same as you've done.)
The loveable thing about her husband was that he was very humane, he spoke with incredible ease.
That took a weight of her shoulders, and that meant even though her actions were a little abrupt at the heart of it their was understanding in him for her actions.

Mid afternoon the next day.
Gayatri stood before Rana in the presence of Kuwar sa and other members of the royal family as he announced his punishment for her. After their conversation last night Gayatri knew that Ranaji's reaction was purely of justice like any other that would have wronged she too would be punished and she accepted that but like others she hadn't anticipated the severity of her punishment.
As the verdict was announced Gayatri looked towards Ranaji only him to avoid the sniggering of Kuwar sa and his family. His tone of voice was very firm as he announced his decision and Gayatri got the feeling her husband was avoiding eye contact with her as a way to remain committed to his decision. She knew this was a lot harder for him then it was for her.
"Saza ke taur par aap ek hafta servant quarters mein bitayengi" (As consequence of your actions you are to spend a week in the servant quarters of the palace. )
It was a punishment no one had expected or ever heard of but it set an example to one and all as to how powerful the king of Amerkot could be when taken lightly.
Gayatri swallowed a lump in her throat as she heard the terms of her punishment from her husband.

She would spend a week in the servant quarters as a maid servant to the raj mahel.
,carry out all the duties of a maid servant for the duration of her punishment and have no unnecessary contact with any of the royal family. Breaking the criteria of her punishment would accrue an additional day to the duration of the punishment.
Gayatri thought of every single word as she retreated to her chambers for the last time as a queen, she had never known him to be so harsh and so to say she wasn't hurt would be a lie. A maid servant? She tried hard to think of why he would be so severe but a punishment was a punishment it was supposed to teach humility and it would maybe it was based on her refusal to serve kuwar sa at the dinner table and now as a maid it was something she would have to do if faced with.
Gayatri was seated in front of her dresser, removing her royal jewelry when she saw ranaji in the mirror entering the room. His eyes caught her reflection in the mirror along with those tears she covered up aptly soon as she had noticed him.
He wasn't proud of the upset he had given her, he just wanted to see her one last time before she went about her punishment he watched her in the mirror and was lost for words. Before he could say anything a maid knocked on the door to the suit announcing that she had bought for Gayatri the uniformed saari all maid servants wore in the Raj Mahel.
The maid left the saari on the platter to a side as per gayatris direction leaving both Rana ji and Gayatri alone.
Gayatri continued to remove her jewelry in silence without paying him any attention it was clear that what would say now was going to fall all deaf ears. Walking out of the room it was only a few seconds later to him leaving that Gayatri gave way to hear tears.

Ranaji is walking down the corridor of the raj mahel, but finds himself paying attention to the maid servants that cross his path, each one under a veil it was obvious to Lakshraj who was with him that Gayatri seemed to be on Ranas mind.
