Is it a crime... If I read a book, and the story base attracts my attention... And then I start writing it all new in my way???

I mean ... Is this allowed?
If anyone here knows... Can you help me??
Are we permitted to use story line of the books...
Or is it necessary to have the sole story framed by us... 😕

Considering you give credits to original story writer, and confirm that the story actually belongs to that person, (mention name of original story and writer too..) I guess.. that could be acceptable.
