You get inspired by a story fine; but you cannot copy paste it word to word; or its language; or even chapter wise story. If at all you can write it in your own way. But that too is acceptable only if you give proper credit to the writer, the source/book.

Hmmm...

You can take inspiration from the story in the book but at the end it should be your imaginary story (in your own words) so that nobody can find any reason to mark it as a copyright. There are some things which inspire us whether it's a scene in a movie, a character from a show or any story and we imagine that if we had to write it, how different it could be. Try to keep it as different as possible. 😳
