Hey guys! I'm back with another update! 😃 I know it's been almost a month since my previous update but in my defense, World Cup kept me distracted. 😆 But I'm back now so I hope to be more regular in my updates! 😉 So here is presenting Chapter 16:
Chapter 16
Kalpana smiled as she looked up and saw Raghav standing over her beside her bed. Raghav too looked down at Kalpana with a smile of his own, relief visible all across his face as he gently brushed his thumb across her cheek.
It took Kalpana a few moments to breathe in the sight of Raghav. Yes, he really was here. It was then when she noticed what a mess he looked. His bloodshot eyes clearly showed he hadn't slept in days. In fact his appearance clearly gave away that Raghav hadn't even left the hospital premises as he was still wearing the same outfit that he had worn to the party.
Kalpana tried to sit up but Raghav quickly stopped her.
"No, you need to lie down. You need to rest!"- Raghav said forcefully. Kalpana knew Raghav was right. Her mind might be fully awake but the soreness in her chest and the throbbing pain in her head was making her physically exhausted.
"Raghav, we need to talk..."- Kalpana began but was silenced by the arrival of Doctor Singh.
Memories of the how Kalpana had landed up in the hospital were a haze but she had not forgotten her last conversation with Raghav. She knew there were many things to clarify but she would just have to wait.
"Ah I see that you're finally awake Kalpana! - Doctor Singh said cheerfully.
Raghav waited patiently in the corner of the room while Doctor Singh carried out Kalpana's examination.
"Well Kalpana, it seems that you've made a speedy recovery. Quiet remarkable seeing how your condition was till last night. However, I'll still like to keep you under observation overnight. If everything remains steady till tomorrow then you'll be free to go home."- Doctor Singh commented.
Kalpana politely smiled back in return too weak to say much.
"Thank you Doctor!"- Raghav replied, his voice filled with gratitude.
Doctor Singh humbly nodded before heading out.
Raghav was just about to move towards Kalpana when the door burst open and Arjun came running in.
"Kalpu!"- Arjun exclaimed as he went and enveloped Kalpana into a bear hug. "Thank god you're awake! I couldn't believe it when the nurse told me!"- Arjun continued rambling oblivious to pain he was exerting on Kalpana by the force of his hug.
The scene unfolding in front of him cause Raghav's jaw to tighten but he controlled himself unwillingly to cause a scene in the hospital.
"I think you're hurting her Arjun!"- Raghav said quietly.
"I'm so sorry Kalpu. I guess I got a little carried away when I saw you."- Arjun replied apologetically. Kalpana glanced at Raghav and gave him a grateful smile before turning her attention back to Arjun.
Arjun moved back a little and positioned himself beside Kalpana on the bed. If this action of Arjun bothered Raghav, he gave nothing away and simply nodded his head towards Kalpana and swiftly made his way out not wanting to witness anymore of Arjun's antics.
Kalpana longed to stop Raghav but controlled, convincing herself that she would speak to him when no one else was around.
Kalpana tried to pay attention to what Arjun was saying but her mind kept wandering off to Raghav. She hated having this misunderstanding between them. To be honest, she would have given anything to have Raghav by her side rather than Arjun. But then she felt guilty and mentally reprimanded herself for thinking about Arjun in that manner, he was her close friend after all, despite the history they shared.
Arjun finally had Kalpana's hundred percent attention when he mentioned her parents. She was shocked when Arjun explained the state of affairs back in Pune but a wave of relief washed over her when he mentioned that her parents were safe and the situation was under control by the local officials.
"Thank you Arjun, for looking out for my parents"- Kalpana responded gratefully giving him a brief hug.
"Hey! What's with the formality? Do you not consider me your own? And you know how much your parents mean to me."- Arjun replied softly. "Chalo now I've troubled you enough. I have some work to attend to. You take some rest and I'll come and check up on you later in the day."- he continued getting up from the bed.
"I'll send Raghav in. Don't miss me too much."- Arjun said with a wink and gave Kalpana a kiss on her forehead before leaving the room.
Just seconds later, Raghav walked in.
Kalpana thought that this would be the perfect opportunity to talk to Raghav but was not willing to listen to her.
"Get some rest Kalpi... We'll talk once you're back home and full recovered."- Raghav said tiredly.
Kalpana knew it was futile arguing with Raghav hence she decided to get some rest instead. She saw Raghav settling down on the chair beside her bed before drifting off to sleep.
Arjun walked into the restaurant at The Taj. He looked around before settling himself down at the bar. He leaned back against the stool recalling the day he had returned back to Mumbai after completing his MBA from the States.
Kalpana. His Kalpu.
Except she wasn't his anymore.
That was the first piece of news he had received when he had landed. About Kalpana dating some cricketer. He had refused to accept the fact that she had moved on. Hadn't she been the first one to confess her feelings for him? How could she have forgotten all those moments they had spent together? Yes, he admitted that he shouldn't have run away to America without informing anyone but in his defense, twenty-two was hardly the age to get married. Even if it meant marrying the girl he loved. He hadn't even been in a position to refuse as his parents were the ones who had brought forward the proposal. Back then, running away had seemed as the only option.
"You know, taking your anger out on the poor mug isn't going to make you feel better!"- came a voice from behind. Arjun looked up and turned around to face a beautiful face. He gave a quick head-to-toe glance to this beautiful stranger before giving her his most charming smile.
"And you know what will make me feel better?"- Arjun responded with a smirk.
"Oh save the flirting for someone who is interested. I've had a crappy night and I could use some company. Plus you look like the only person in this entire place who doesn't wish to take me back to their place."- the stranger replied with a sigh before sitting down on the stool beside Arjun.
Arjun was about to come up with another enticing comment but stopped himself.
Soon introductions were made as the stranger introduced herself as Pakhi Kapoor. Conversation flowed as the two began sharing their lives "tragedies" with one another.
"Look there's the guy who has taken away the love of my life."- Arjun said dejectedly pointing towards the television screen. "The famous Raghav Singhania!'- he continued bitterly.
"Wait, you love Kalpana? The girl-next-door Kalpi?"- Pakhi exclaimed, the shock in her voice clearly visible.
Arjun was taken aback when he heard Pakhi mention Kalpana's name. "You know Kalpi?"- Arjun questioned raising an eyebrow.
"Know her? She's the one who Raghav dumped me for!"- Pakhi retorted.
Suddenly everything made so much sense. Both sat down in silence playing around with their drinks before Pakhi broke the silence.
"Maybe our meeting here tonight wasn't such a coincidence. Maybe we can still get back the love of our lives. Maybe all we have to do is separate Raghav and Kalpana and then the two of them will have no choice but the come back to us. Just maybe..."- Pakhi said with a sly smile slowly forming on her face.
Arjun took a few seconds to digest what Pakhi had just said. He wondered if this would be the right thing to do... Then again what choice did he have? He was going to get his Kalpu back, by hook or by crook. Even if it meant hurting her in the process. He would have the rest of his life making up for all the pain he would cause her now.
"Cheers! To getting the love of our lives back..."- Arjun toasted raising his drink towards Pakhi.
Arjun was the brought back to the present when a smiling Pakhi snapped her fingers in front of him before enveloping him into a hug...
