Chapt 37
On the ride back home, Kalpi is grasping onto Raghav's coat hardly as if she wanted to drown in his cologne (her safe haven). Gauri and Kamla takes her inside to bathroom and run the shower. After initial shock she recovers requests them to leave and scrubs her body skin so hard it turns red while crying feeling disgusted imagining Parakash's slimy fingers.
K POV: Why me...I never gave him any encouragement...I'm so filthy...How will I face Raghav? How will I look into his eyes? His questioning eyes? I lost everything...Ma, Raghav...even Rahul..
Raghav Home
Kamla is fidgety as is Gauri...
Kamla: Gauri Ji, Kalpi is taking too long...Could you check on her? I know her, she will wallow in self-pity and it will do more harm than good.
G: She is your daughter, I think you should check on her. I love Kalpi to bits but at this stage she might need her real mother.
K: Please, don't embarrass me. You have been more of a mother to her in a day than I have been in an year but requests Kalpi to come out of the shower, there are new clothes outside.
G POV: Kalpi, please come out! You need to get out of your turmoil for me, Chintu and Rahul...Rahul
Gauri calls Rahul relates the whole affair and Rahul is fuming asking details of Prakash knowabouts.
G: I don't know...I just know Kamla and Prem knew the plan partially and Raghav and Prem were to take care of Prakash...
R: Prem? He was involved and...he ...save Kalpi...am I dreaming?
G: I don't know anymore than you...but right now Kalpi needs a friend and you are that friend.
R: Can you give her the phone?
Meanwhile, Kamla dresses a brain-dead Kalpi puts her in bed.
Kamla: Kalpi, you need to come out of this! Nothing happened...you are safe. Everything is okay, baba and dada don't even know about this and NONE of this, None was your fault. (kisses her forehead). I failed you, I should have warned you I overhead this plan partially.
Kalpi(numbily): Aii, please go home...baba will worry and then ask questions. Could you ask Ma to come here please?
Kamla(disheartened) but hears Kalpi saying thank you Aii...for everything. Kamla kisses her forehead, hugs her and leaves.
On cue of hearing her name Gauri enters with phone,
Kalpi hugs Gauri and starts crying. Gauri tries to pacify her, rubbing her back, giving her assurance and then hold the phone to her ear.
Rahul: Kalpi, Kalpi...the great lioness is crying over a pathetic guy...And spare me the details because all you need to know is you are not and I bet that guy will be able to live after Raghav's wrath. Kalpi I understand your pride and ego is hurt but if you wallow into self-pity...many souls will be damaged alongside...you need to know that Raghav's, Ma's and my happiness is associated with yours...Please for our sake...get a grip.
Kalpi feels a little better with the speech but her self-dignity is shattered. She thanks Rahul and promises to take care but she needs some time, which Rahul knows she is bluffing but atleast she is readable again, which to him is a small victory.
Raghav enters his home and nearly breaks Kalpi's door, he opens to find a sleeping tired Kalpi on his mother's lap. He sits on the edge of the bed. Kalpi is pretending to sleep, dreading Raghav's response so took the easy way out.
R: Ma, how is she? Is she hurt? I ...I nearly killed that...
G: She is okay physically...mentally, I wish I knew. Kalpi is strong...very strong but guarded too...she might blame herself for aggravating that...animal's lust.
R: It wasn't like that...he wanted a wife who could earn money and smooch off her. He just wanted Kalpi for the money...I feel like killing him all over again. Ma, will my Kalpi be okay? I need her...I ...I love you Kalpi(looking at her)...Please come back for me...be my stubborn, childish Kalpi...You have illuminated my life with lights...now don't leave...(Raghav has tears in his eyes).
K POV: He loves me that much and Ma too...No, I have to beat this...Raghav won't lie to me...maybe he is right about that...a**hole's intentions...More I think, it makes sense. I am not at fault.
Kalpi wakes up in a shot and hugs Raghav, who equally hugs her tight. They both are holding onto each other until Raghav moves to kiss Kalpi's forehead; they hear Gauri clearing her throat.
G: Great to see you both like this but...as Kalpi's mother, this is as far as I would let a guy touch my baby.
R(lightly joking): But as mother, a kiss will be shine, a pride symbol...right?
Kalpi laughs slightly...awful joke Chintu...
R: Chintu...I'm only mom's Chintu...now suffer by tickling fingers...Mr and Mrs. Sausage Fing
Gauri is relieved to see Kalpi and Raghav like this and slips out of the room reclaiming she will re-heat food a.k.a. call Rahul.
Once Gauri MA leaves, Raghav pulls KAlpi close...both their foreheads against each other.
R: Thank you...for coming back. I love you so much Kalpi...I can't
Kalpi doesn't let Raghav finish but puts her lips against Raghav's, softly kissing him.
Raghav hold Kalpi's face in his palms and kisses with all the passion in his body leaving them both a bit light-headed.
K: I couldn't go anywhere...you love is like rubber band...bring me back to you. I love you Raghav...a.k.a. Chintu Singhania...I might stumble from time to time...but I know you got my back...you are my pillar of strength...just like MA, baba and Rahul. What do you say if we can get Rahul here in 2 days...would you like to get married to me by the end of this week... or you got cold feet?
R(engulfs Kalpi I hug): I ...yes yes...yes. All the preparations will be your style. Are you sure you are not rushing though?
K: I knew you would say that...it feels right...Umm Raghav...I...how did you know? Where to find me?
Raghav re-tells the whole story, of Prem and Aii's bravery...Kalpi is touched by the end of it and suggests that their marriage could be a reunion to mend relationships.
Rahul calls Raghav cell,
Rahul: Give phone to my angel, butler
Raghav: butler?
Kalpi (laughs hearing this): What are you waiting for Butler?
Raghav glares but then smirks...hands the phone.
K POV: He got something up his sleeves.
Rahul: Kalpi, meri Jaan(to aggravate Raghav)...I'm so happy my speech worked...I think I should run for elections? I could call my party, "Aurat Poojah party". I could have a million girls all around me, fawning over me...Can you see the dream with eyes wide open Kalpi.
Meanwhile, Raghav has leaned over Kalpi's neck breathing warm air...occasionally coming in close contact with her skin, leaving Kalpi restless and unfocused on Rahul.
K POV: Ahh, I so want him...God...what am I thinking...Rahul focus on Rahul..what is he ranting about?
K on phone: Hmm..k..mmm
Rahul: Kalpi you okay?
K(eyes open wide): Ya...Rahul...how about a rain check...I will call you tomorrow, an annoying fly is buzzing around.
R POV: fly me...woman I'm Hercules...I will show you fly.
As soon as the line is cut, raghav tackles Kalpi on the bed, hoovers over her,
R: Fly buzzes right...
K(blushes and nods): What could I say?
R: God, I love your blush. He moves forward to kiss her cheeks, buries his face in her neck and is about to kiss her lips when Gauri MA knocks for food.
R: She is your mother...
K: You doubted that (eyebrows raising)
After food and few laughs, Kalpi did wake up nightmare in the middle of the night but had Gauri to console her. Kalpi couldn't help but thank God over and over again for such blessings...for such wonderful people in her life. Road to recovery might be hard and long but with such love around her, she knew she will make it back...completely back.
