She was a curvaceous woman, woman because even though she was just 20 years of age but mentally and spiritually she was a mature woman. Her mom called her from downstairs, "Breakfast is ready, come down". "Just a sec" replied Kalpi. After her breakfast she bid her mom good bye and drove to college. "Ah! What should I listen now? Hmmm'I am feeling okay so I will listen to some soft music.. hmm...", she thought. Music had the ability to manipulate her emotions and she too used Music to strengthen the effects of her emotions. She was so lost in the song, listening and singing it at the same time.
Suddenly, she was stopped in the middle by some cops. She got so nervous by this sudden intrusion that she asked them what the matter was. The cops replied that some emergency has aroused and people are requested to take another route. She nodded and started her two wheeler and drove away.
As soon as she entered the gate of her college, her best friend Pakhi greeted her with a big smile. "How you doing Kalpi ?" she asked. "Fine I guess." Kalpi replied.
"You don't sound fine, tell me what happened."
"Well I think some emergency situation has aroused on the 5th street, the cops were stopping everyone on the street, directing them to take another route."
"Oh, okay. Don 't worry if it was something terrible, our whole college would be talking about it"
"Yeah, I guess."
Suddenly the bell rang interrupting their conversation. The girls followed the crowd entering the class. The students were studying with least interest as usual. Kalpi was busy writing what teacher was muttering. Suddenly her eyes moved to the 3rd bench in the first row and all those memories she was trying in vain to avoid came crawling back. She raised her left eyebrow, sighed and continued writing.
"Promise me as long as I am in your life, u will be mine." the voice echoed in her head.
She felt a hand on her shoulder pulling her back to reality, she turned around to see that it was Pakhi, smiling. "Class is over madam, shall we go."
Kalpi and Pakhi were sitting in the cafeteria. Pakhi wanted to talk to kalpi about what was bothering her but every time she tried, Kalpi ignored her questions and changed the topic. Pakhi was getting anxious day by day. Seeing Kalpi quiet and tensed was a painful thing for her. They've been friends like forever. But Kalpi was acting weird lately and Pakhi had to know what was bothering her. She couldn't take it anymore.
Kalpi was eating fries and talking to Pakhi about the new movie which was releasing this week. Pakhi wasn't paying attention to whatever kalpi was saying; she was thinking about how she could convince kalpi to talk to her. "Hey, can I ask you something?" Pakhi questioned. "About the movie? Yea, we can go this Saturday if you're free." Kalpi replied.
"No, I am not talking about the movie."
"Then?"
"Can you please stop being so secretive and tell me what's been going on with you. You've been acting weird since you came from London."
"No, I am fine" Kalpi replied nervously.
"I am your best friend; we've been friends since we were in school. We never hide anything from each other. We promised that we will share with each other all our secrets, right? But look at you, "Ms. Suffer in Silence", I know something is bothering you but you aren't telling me."
"I know and I am sorry but I can't, It's complicated and I...I really don't want to remember it Pooki."
"Get it out of your system, you have to trust someone. May be you'll feel better if you tell someone."
"I don't know."
"Oh come on, I thought we were friends."
"It's a long story."
"I have all the time in the world." Pakhi smiled.
Kalpi sighed; she couldn't believe she was sharing it with someone. She decided that she would never talk about it with anyone. But Pakhi is her best friend and she deserves to know. "Ok, it all started 3 months ago when I went to London to visit my sick Aunt Shilpa. Aunt Shilpa treated me like her own daughter. She never had any children and never got married. She used to live alone in her old Victorian house. When mom told me she was sick, I was quite worried for her. Mom and Dad decided that I should go and visit her. It was a good idea as I needed a break too. Two days later I was at the airport hugging my mom and dad and bidding them goodbye. Mom asked me to call her as soon as I got out of the plain. All throughout the flight I was thinking about how Aunt Shilpa will react when she'll see me standing at the door of her house. She didn't know I was coming, I wanted to give her a surprise visit. After like what seemed eternity the flight finally landed. I was in the taxi on my way to Aunt Shilpa's when I called my mom and assured her that I was okay and on my way. You know how mom is, don't you?"
Pakhi smiled and nodded.
So I finally got there and as soon as I laid my eyes on that old Victorian house all the faded memories of childhood came rushing back. I used to love this home when I was a kid. Aunt used to dress me up like a Victorian queen and we used to have tea parties, oh it was so much fun. I saw Aunt Shilpa standing at her door and looking at me anxiously. I smiled and ran towards her, "Hey Aunt , it's me Kalpi." "Kalpi...
", she said with tears in her eyes and she hugged me. "Your parents didn't tell me you were coming. Oh dear the house is a mess...I..."
"It's okay; I wanted to give you a surprise so I told mom and dad not to tell you anything about my visit. How are you? Are you okay now", I asked her.
"I am fine now that I have seen you." she said smilingly.
We both went into the house and talked for hours. Then I cleaned up the house and went to take a shower. I was staying in the same room where we had our tea parities. I changed my clothes and went downstairs. "What? Aunt , you didn't have to this."
"I know how much you love food cooked by me and I have a special dessert too." Aunt said arranging plates on the table.
"I came here to help to you not to trouble you." I said taking plates from her hand.
"Beta , I have never felt so good in such a long time." she said smilingly.
Dinner was delicious, she was right I loved the way she cooked the dinner. In dessert we had the special chocolate cake from the bakery which we used to visit when I was a kid. She knew how much I loved the chocolate cake.
"Thanks Aunt Shilpa"
"Thank you for coming." she said.
After some talking we went to our rooms to sleep. I was so excited and happy to be there so I texted you."
"I remember, I was still sleeping then." Pakhi said laughingly.
In the morning after doing the household chores, I made some breakfast for me and Aunt. When she came into the kitchen she was surprised to see me.
"You woke up so early" she said.
"Here's your breakfast now finish it fast and get ready because we have to go to the doctor."
"You're just like your mom."
I smiled.
After the breakfast, Aunt Shilpa went to her room to get ready while I cleaned the dishes. Aunty came down and we got into the car. "I am sorry sweetie I cannot show you around; you know it's a beautiful place. But my health doesn't allow me to."
"Its okay, I can understand."
"You can do one thing. You can drop me to the clinic and while I am getting my tests done, you can explore the town if you want to."
"Yea, that's a great idea. How long will it take at the clinic precisely?
"It usually takes 2 -3 hours"
Soon we were at the clinic. I met with the doctor and inquired about Aunt's health. He assured me there was nothing to worry. I checked on my aunt she was laying on the bed.
"I'll see you soon"
"Enjoy yourself dear", she said smilingly.
I got out of the hospital clueless. "Where should I go?" I asked myself. I knew about a lake nearby so I decided to go there first. I loved the lake, it was quiet and beautiful. After spending sometime there I decided to have coffee. There was a cafe nearby. When I entered the cafe I saw a large group of people discussing something. I sat in the corner and ordered a cappuccino. I was waiting for my cappuccino lost in my own thoughts, suddenly I heard his voice, "I don't agree" he said. I don't know why but I was uneasy. His voice had so much confidence and it was oh so sexy. "No, no I don't." I heard his voice again. As soon as I looked into the direction from where the voice came, the waiter interrupted me. "Here's your cappuccino madam." "Thank you I said" nervously. I sipped the coffee and raised my eyes and found him looking at me. He had olive green eyes. I had never seen such beautiful eyes before. Those eyes were looking deep into my soul. And then He smiled and turned his face to the crowd while I was still staring him !!.
