Thank you all for the comments about the story- they are truly appreciated. I am glad that you all seem to be enjoying, what I have written and the long dialogues I have given various characters. As I said when I started it is not a happy story for anyone, and this part is no exception. ENJOY :D
Part 5
Viren grabbed his keys in a fit of anger. He needed to leave, get some air, before he did something or said something that he would later regret. He drove around Rishikesh aimlessly. He did not know the streets very well. Suddenly, the car made a terrible noise. He turned the engine off and got out to see what had happened.
Frustrated with his luck and life, he hit the bonnet with such force that it could be heard a mile away. In the distance, he saw the banks of the Ganges. The sun was beginning to set and the light hit the earth in the most beautiful way. He has never really appreciated the beauty of Rishikesh till this moment, and finally understood why the girls loved this town so much. There was beauty in the simplest of things. As he walked towards the ghat, all he could think about was his current situation. Today he saw hope, in Jeevika's small gesture. He also felt an enormous amount of frustration and anger and a tiny amount of resentment towards it all. As he approached the ghat, he remembered the tales Jeevika told him, about her and Maanvi's trips to Ganga ghat. How they would talk to their parents and make their wishes for the future.
Jeevika had lost her parents when she was young and that if she lost Maanvi... Well that was unimaginable; Jeevika would be broken in a way that she would never be healed. Why couldn't he support her? Why couldn't he just be there when she falls? He couldn't take this pain anymore, he loved Jeevika so much, that words fell short describing it. However, he couldn't do anything. He can't be there for her, in the way she needs. Whenever he tries, he ends up failing, as Jeevika didn't want a support system. She herself does not know what she wanted or how she feels. How could she let Viren help her?
As he sat at the banks of the Ganges, he wanted to give up. He did not know what to do. He looked up at the sky, and wanted to talk to Jeevika parents and ask them for advice. They knew their daughter best, how could he help her? How could he show her he will support her thought it all and make her believe him. How? He didn't have answers and they couldn't help him either, because he and Jeevika had to solve their own problems.
Viren had called Virat to let him know that he had car trouble. He told Virat to arrange a tow truck to come and collect the car from its location. Meanwhile, Viren stayed at the ghat for the next few hours, he didn't feel like heading back home and wasn't sure if he could even face them all.
Suddenly something hit him; he got up and headed back because he was going to sort out his life. As he entered the living room, he saw Maanvi and Virat laughing playing a friendly game of poker. Jeevika who was standing, watching her sister enjoy herself, was taken aback by Viren's sudden entry into the house. They all looked over at Viren, who seemed to be bubbling rage.
Without saying a word, he took Jeevika by the hand and dragged her into their room. He had his hand around her so tight, that she was unable to loosen his grip. Once in the room, he let go and locked the door behind him.
"Virenji, what the hell is this!" Fuming with anger, Jeevika wanted to know what had possessed her husband.
"You can't just drag me into a room and then stand there! Forget this," Jeevika went to leave, but as she passed Viren, he grabbed once again and pulled her in front of him.
"No. Not this time. You're not walking out and leaving this all on me. Enough. Enough with the pleasant talk and the beating around the bush. Today we get things straight. You told me that Maanvi is your number one concern; everything else is secondary to you. You know what, that's not a problem! Everything you said today, I haven't got an issue with it. I don't mind being second in your life, because I know the importance of Maanvi. But you know what you forget in your little speech - yourself! Your there for Maanvi, but who's there for you? You! I am! Or at least I'm trying to be there. Do you know what that even means? I want you to..."
"What the hell is this? You drag me in this room to yell at me, that your there for me? Really? What is it with your obsession of being the hero, swooping down, and saving poor old Jeevika from her terrible life?! I don't need saving and I don't need pity..." Months of anger and resentment finally came to a surface, Jeevika and Viren spoke with such anger that their voices could be heard in neighbouring houses.
"Why does everything I do come back to pity. I don't pity you. You're my wife. Can't a husband be there for his wife? You have shut yourself off from everyone, even Maanvi you..."
"Don't bring Maanvi into this!" Infuriated by the even mention of Maanvi's name, Jeevika was ready to kill.
"Bring Maanvi in this? Are you kidding me? I'm not bringing her up, she here. She's always been here. Now more than ever. Let me ask you, have I ever stopped you from caring for Maanvi? Have I ever discouraged you? Then why can't you see that all I want to do is support you in this. Be someone you can lean on, when things get so hard that you can't breathe."
Jeevika blood was ready to spill and could have easily said many things that could have destroyed her marriage in a few short words, but this was more than she could handle. They had argued many times in the past, but Viren had never spoken like this before. Wanting to disappear and leave all this messiness behind, Jeevika attempted to leave again but with so much anger, boiling inside of him Viren was not letting his go. He grabbed her wrists once again, but this time Jeevika pushes back.
"I'm not doing this," she muttered under her breath.
"I'm not, you hear me? I not doing this!"She walks towards the door enraged and just wanted to escape; unexpectedly he whacks his hand against the door.
"I'm sorry my dear, but you are gonna have to. We can't go on like this forever"
Jeevika had buried her feelings for so long, that even if she wanted to she could not let it out. Feeding off Viren rage, she bursts:
"Forget this, you wanna leave? Leave. Go back to Chandigarh. I don't need you here and no one asked you come..."
Suddenly loud noise came from outside the room, startled by the sound; Viren quickly ran outside and saw that everything had been knocked off the table. He gazed up and saw Maanvi clutching the side of the table in a weak state. He ran and wrapped his arms around her like a cape, together they fell to the ground. She was weak and disorientated, he tried calling her name, but she didn't respond. All of a sudden, she started vomited blood by the pints. He screamed for Jeevika and Virat. They both rushed into the room. Jeevika stood there is shock she couldn't move a muscle. She had never seen her sister in such a dire state before. Viren kept shouting for her but it was as if she was deaf. Virat had called for an ambulance, but it could not get there any faster. Maanvi was lethargic and pale. Viren tried keeping her awake, as he cuddled her in his arms. Virat struggled to get Jeevika to talk; she stood there still as if she frozen in time. He tried to get her to sit and reassure her that nothing what happened to Maanvi. Viren was getting desperate, the ambulance had not arrived, and Maanvi seemed to be getting weaker by the second. He had laid her on her side as she was in and out of consciousness and was still vomiting.
The paramedics finally arrived, after what seemed to be a lifetime. They placed Maanvi on the stretcher and started an IV to try and rehydrated her. Viren and Virat accompanied the paramedics to the hospital. Leaving Jeevika sitting there - staring at the pool in blood in the living room.
Coming up- Maanvi in the hospital and Jeevika at home.
