I'm back with part 2! I never expected myself to post 2 parts in less than 24 hours but i guess that's what EHMMBH does to you. I really appreciate all your comments! And I have tried to make this part longer and I will continue trying because I know how awful it is to read short parts but I promise you frequent updates. I love all you guys! 🤗 Another thing, maintaining the essence of the show is very important to me. So I hope I've done that. Please tell me!
Part 2.
Four months. It had been four horrible months since he got to know about her cancer. The word was poison. And a week of hell since the chemotherapy went bad. Time passed so fast, yet so slow. He wanted her to become perfectly fine so that they could start a life together and everything seemed to be going so well. Everyone was so optimistic. Jeevika had begun to smile again but then, all hell went loose and Maanvi had been in the ICU for a week now. Loss of blood, no appetite, excessive bleeding, bruises, fever. She'd been suffering so badly and the doctors had almost given up but how could they let that happen? Virat had seen a new side of his Bhabhi then. Like Durga Maa. She never left her sister's side. Literally. She made sure the doctors gave her the best treatment and got her shifted to Chandigarh after the mishap. No one got a say in front of her and Virat was happy so see that. Maybe then, his family could finally comprehend the bond between the sisters. Virat was even mad at his brother, to an extent, for coming in between them but then he realized that he was doing the same and hopefully, once Maanvi would become alright, and with Virat by her side, she wouldn't feel incomplete.
It had been three days since Virat went home and Viren finally convinced him to. He walked into the ICU and looked at her, sleeping peacefully or at least he hoped. He went up to her and bent down to kiss her gently on her forehead.
"I'll be back." He whispered, only for her ears but he knew she couldn't hear him. She was sleeping. Jeevika was still sitting by her sister and stroking the back of Maanvi's hand. He stood up straight and told her, "Bhabhi, apna khayal rakhna." and left from there without waiting for Jeevika to respond. He know she wouldn't. The only reason Jeevika was alive today was hope. Hope and belief that Maanvi would become completely fine.
He smiled at Viren and left the hospital. He wasn't allowed to drive. Dadaji, Swamini Bua and Ma had strictly forbidden it. They knew how Virat was. He would probably get himself killed. The driver came with the car and he sat at the back. He remembered how it all began. How Maanvi had pushed him towards Maya. How she wrote that beautiful, heart breaking letter and made Maya sign it. He kept that letter with him. Always. He took it out from his pocket and stared and the words that seemed incoherent now but he had managed to learn the whole thing. He knew that it was for his Bhabhi and not for him but that was what made him love her even more. That was what made him respect her even more. To think that she knew about her illness and still tried to patch up him and Maya made him shiver.
He looked out at the striked out "Jeevi" on the letter and wondered how he missed it the first time he read it. He should have know that it was Maanvi, always her. He could just imagine her saying all the words written on it.
He reached home and got out of the car and looked at his house. Inspite of Dadaji and Swamini Bua's behavior towards him, he loved this house. They'd been living here since before his father died and he did have a few memories of him. But now, everything seemed sad. He was in this house when he got to know about Maanvi's cancer. It was in this house that he saw Maanvi fall sick for the first time and it was in this house that he realized his love for Maanvi but with her in this state, lying on the hospital bed everything just looked so morose.
He sighed and walked into the house and saw his mother sitting in the living room, reading the Bhagvad Gita. He walked uo to her and bent to touch her feet. She immediately got up and looked at him with so much of love and sadness that he broke down and hugged her. He couldn't keep it in anymore. He needed to vent and his mother was always there for him.
"Ma.. Ma, Maanvi.." He sobbed into her shoulder. He couldnt form sentences but he knew that his mother understood. She understood when he didn't feel the same for Maya. She understood when he fell in love with Maanvi. She always understood and especially now, in this situation because she went through the same thing. She lost her love.
"Virat, beta, aise himmat nahi todhte. Agar tum himmat todhoge to Maanvi kaise himmat jutaaegi? Jeevika aur Viren ko kaisa lagega? Tum ne hi toh Maanvi ko sambhala hain aur ab tum hi himmat todh rahe ho?" her voice was a lullaby. He needed to be consoled by someone. He was broken.
"Ma, maine kitni koshish ki lekin kya karu? Aap usse dekhoge na, toh aap bhi himmat kho behthoge." He hugged his mother tighter.
"Acha, theek hai. Jaa ke fresh ho jao. Teen (3) din se ghar nahi aaye ho. Phir baat karte hain. Chalo jao." She parted from her son and carressed his cheek with a small smile.
"Ji, Ma." He tried to return a smile before walking into his room.
He walked into the room and sat on the edge of his bed and put his head in his hands, running them through his hair. He'd never felt to helpless before. He looked at the table beside his bed.
Virat had put a picture of Maanvi there. One from Viren and Jeevika's weeding. She was alone in the picture and was smiling at the camera with her head tilted slightly. The picture always made him smile and today was no different. He picked up the frame and stared at it. He wondered whether she had cancer even then. He always wondered the same thing. The thought scared him. All the dancing, running around must have surely detoriated her condition. There had to be something he could do to help her. To help his family.
He sighed. He was absolutely sick of this internal turmoil. Virat got up and took a clean towel and fresh clothes and went for a bath of steaming hot water. He needed some physical pain to subside the mental pain. He went under the shower and turned on the scalding hot water, burning his skin. He welcomed the feeling, cherised it. All the while picturing a healthy, happy
Maanvi. And then, Virat thought how it all began. How he fell in love with her. How he realized why he thought that he loved Maya
*Flashback*
Virat just got off the phone with Maanvi.
"Ajeeb ladki hain. Achanak se phone kaat diya."
He was feeling awful and he didnt know what to do about it. The thought of marrying Maya so soon made him uneasy. And he needed his partner but she seemed too busy. He sighed. he'd never understand that girl. Just then Maya walked into the room, and hugged him from back before he could turn around.
"Virat, I'm so happy! Finally itne saalo ke baad, hum shaadi kar rahe hain! I can't wait. Aur humari engagement sabsi achi hogi. Sab log dekhte reh jaaenge!"
Virat, on the other hand merely sighed. It seemed like a head ache to him. He didnt feel the happiness or excitement that he expected himself to feel at the thought of marrying the girl he loved. He moved her hands and turned to face her.
"Maya, main soch raha tha, ki shayad hume thodi der wait kar leni chaahiye. Abhi, abhi humara patch up hua hain. We should get used to each other."
"Nahi, Virat. Maine pehle tumhe na karke apni zindage ke sabse badi galti hain. Main phirse apni galti dohraana (repeat) nahi chahti." She smiled at him but he still felt uneasy but replied to her nevertheless.
"Acha theek hain. Toh phir hum planning karna shuru karte hain."
"Haan, I'm so excited! Lekin main soch rahin thi ki hum planning Swamini Bua pad chodte hain. Unko toh pata hi hain ki mujhe kaisi engagement pasand hain aur phir party unke class ke barabar hogi." She gave him a wide smile, to which he replied with what he was sure was a half dead smile but she didnt notice. Not when she was so excited."
"Acha, ab main chalti hoon. Apna khayal rakhna aur mujhe phone karna. Bye!" She hugged him and left.
*Flashback ends*
Virat almost laughed. That was the first clue. That was the first clue for him to kick Maya out of his life forever and the first clue of Maanvi's cancer. He put on his white shirt and jeans and walked out of the room to look for his mom. He'd go back to the hospital now, along with some food for Viren and Jeevika and hopefully try to send Jeevika home.
