Chapter 3
Song- Do Dil Mil Rahe Hai
"So did that work?" she asked.
"Of course it did, maa ne itne dino tak dad se ladhai na karne ki koshish ki, pata nhin kya darra dia tha Sumo madam ne." he repilied playfully laughing.
"Bohot fierce thi aapki Sumo haan?"
"Aur utni hi gadhi bhi, koi uss pagal ko jitna bhi hurt karle, maggi jaisa tha uska gussa do minute main aata tha do minute main saffa chat. Ha-ha."
"Strange comparison, I must say, ha-ha" she too laughed along with him.
...flashback
"I dare you." Said a mischievous Poorna.
"Sumo, you are not doing any such thing." Shravan warned her.
"Shravan stop me if you can." Sumo said and rushed to the cycles kept away and Shravan chased her.
Sumo sat on the bicycle and started paddling, when the bicycle took on speed, Sumo left the handles and simply paddled putting her hands straight in the air. And shouted "Dekh le Poorna kar li dare, ab meri treat." She said looking towards her.
Suddenly out of nowhere a 5-7 year old boy came in front of the vehicle and in process of saving him from hurt sumo drifted to the left without realizing that there was a tree. She hit the tree by the front wheel of the cycle and fell on the ground with a thud, hitting her knee and elbow.
"Sumooo.." Shravan called out her name with terror and fear evident in his voice.
He rushed towards her figure followed by the child and all the others.
He removed the cycle that he found on top of her and lifted her torso from the ground and kept it on his thighs as he was bending down to lift her.
"Shravan, kya puri duniya ka naam sunana tha, kaan fatt gaye mere." Suman said lighting up the atmosphere seeing him tense as she opened her eyes feebly.
Everyone except for her saddu smiled.
"Itna bhi burra nhin tha, smile kar sakte the." She said sitting up with his help.
"Maine pehle bola.." he was cut in middle.
"Sorry, Didi." The child said softly.
Before sumo could have replied with a smile, Shravan did.
"Better be." He said angrily scaring the child.
Sumo sighed and brought the child near to her extending her arm. "Kya Shravan itne chotte se cute se bacche ko tumne darra diya." She said causing a smile to appear on his face. "Ye lo." She gave him a Choco ball from her handbag. The child kissed her cheek and went away with playing.
Shravan who was busy admiring her childish acts with the corners of his lips pulled up into a smile, was disturbed when she said, "Kya dekte hi rahoge ya uthaoge bhi?" bringing him back to reality.
"Nhin, tum pehle bacche se baat karlo." He said, giving her a hand to stand up.
As soon as he left her hand she neared falling down but was held by him from waist and right palm.
She tried walking but failed. Fed up of her failing trials he held her by waist and took her into his arms. (Bridal Style) Due to the sudden jerk Sumo gripped his neck tight, but loosened it a moment later.
"You drumhead, aage se tum aisa kuch karne ki sochogi bhi nhin, is that understood?" he said while pacing towards the car.
Sumo shook her head like a small kid, following his command.
"And you stop calling me dumbhead."
"You do act like one." He said earning a whack from her.
...flashback
"Kuch zyada hi calm thi aapki Sumo, isn't it?" Inquired Anshika.
"Bilkul bhi nhin saare duniya jahan ka gussa mujhpe nikalta tha na, jungle billi kahin ki."
...flashback
"Sumo let me remind you tumne marathon running main part nhin liya hai. Why are you god damn speeding like anything." Shravan said to a Sumo who had been pacing quite ahead of him, showing displeasure.
"You are not talking to me. Do you get it?" sumo said not facing him.
"Sumo, sunno to sahi." Shravan said trying to equalize with her.
"God damn. Sumo suno." Shravan said raising his tone. When Suman didn't stop, he paced up and kneeled right in front of her stopping her to go further and forcing her to look at him.
"Sumo tumne Rahul ko to kuch nahi kaha he had pushed you first and you had fallen down, then I responded to him." Shravan said justifying his act.
"Don't you get it you ,you stupid male being, tum mere dost ho voh nhin main use kuch nahin keh sakti thi tumhe to to keh sakti hu na." she said making him stand back to his feet.
"To iska kya mtlab hai tumhe ye right mil jata hai ki tum mujhse gussa hokar beth jao, mujhse baat na karo, tumhe yeh haq kabhi nahin milega, you should get that straight in your head, do you get it, you off tracked female." He said hugging her.
He could feel her nodding against his chest.
...flashback
"So you were really protective for her, haan." Anshika said comprehending from all the instances she came across.
"Like a big protective bear." He said elaborating her point.
"College?" Anshika said making him realize after recalling all the information she had come through that he didn't mention anything about college.
"College was a fun affair." He said recalling some memories.
"One thing common in all colleges is RELATIONSHIPS, So what about you two?"
"Haan kuch relationships the, but purely flings, kisi main itni himmat hi nhin thi intimate hone ki, hum dono hi na kabhi patch ups pe zyada khush hue na hi break up pe zyada koi roya, ho gaya to ho gaya yaar, big deal?" he said opposing the views of this generation, people now tend to suicide on a heartbreak, is life just worth a minute or second when you breakup, and then it's all over, never do they think about the people they leave behind, all they leave behind is sorrow and melancholy.
"Kaash sab aap log jaise sochte, suicide naam ki problems bohot kam hoti." Anshika said recalling of a time when she herself was on the verge of falling into a temptation called suicide.
"Lag raha hoga na, puri zindagi is isaan ne kuch kaam nhin kiya." He laughed to himself.
"Nhin, writters ko itni liberty hoti hai ki voh itminaan se bhethkar kuch likkhe jo logo ko pasand aaye." She justified him.
...flashback
"Shravan". Suman sneaked into his room which seemed empty to her until she spotted him sitting on his desk, strike that lying on his desk on top of five to six heavy looking files. He had probably dozed off studying the numerous cases he had to fight this week. She smiled at his sleeping figure as she saw him closely, mouth slightly agape, lashes resting on the skin under his eyes and a mess out of his not really gelled hair, messed up on his forehead, making him look somewhat his age, which his all gelled up look and those humongous amount of files in his hand he looked no less than a person, burdened by the miseries of the universe whereas he was actually just 23. She knew he had been very talented and capable for his age but health is something he is neglecting and she has to pick up on every little thing, like this dumb friend of hers has dozed off, when his body was trying to catch up on the sleeping hours he had skipped.
She tried to wake him up shaking him softly and calling out his name. He nuzzled irritatingly, being woken up from his sweet slumber. He opened his eyes slowly and found his jhalli, in a cute messy bun and a pull over sweater with denim shorts, looking really cute.
"Shravan pehle utho, bed pe so jao, nhin to neck pain ho jaega." She instructed him.
"Pehle tum mere liye kuch khane ke liye lao, maine kuch nahin khaaya subah se." He said yawning and stretching his hands.
"Main na already khana banakar Preeti ke paas gayi thi, jao khud lo, lazy lad, kuch zyada hi bigaadh rakkha hai maine tumhe." She said glaring at him as he walked to the bed.
"Sumo pls na, pls." he said in his childish tone.
"Tum na.." she said point her index finger at him but lowered it when she saw he was actually very fatigue and had fallen asleep as soon as he pulled over the quilt.
She warmed the pasta for him, she had made it as lunch and he was eating it as a midnight snack. She also prepared 2 cups of coffee, one for herself, one for him and headed back to his room in the brand new 4- bedroom apartment they both had moved into, away from home. She again had to wake him up and she switched on the main light, and switched off all the lights he had switched on unnecessarily.
"Why do you switch on so many lights?" she said irritated as she sat cross legged on the corner of the bed.
"Because you're always there to switch them off for me." He said shrugging and then quickly continued to gobble up on the pasta, he found it quiet delicious.
"Jiss din nahi rahuni na tab pata chalega." She said as a matter of fact.
Shravan's dangerous glare at her told her not to talk nonsense stuff.
"Sumoo.." he said dragging her name.
"Hmm"
"Kya tum please mere liye voh Mr.Ahuja wala case, study kar sakti ho, I'm just too caught up."
His words brought the perfect "I TOLD YOU" look on Sumo's face.
"I will, but first you tell me why were you trying to be a superman, and pretended to be able to take care of everything, hmmph?" she teased him.
"Can you please, for heaven's sake loose this habit of yours of taunting me, every then-and-now.?" Shravan tossed an answer. "After all you are an equal partner of our firm, and it's your duty to help your fellow partner of the SHRAVAN MALHOTRA AND SUMAN TIWARI FIRM, when he needs it."
"It's not our field of work that we start arguing."
"That's always the excuse you find, when you're losing an argument with me."
"One more word and I'm not in this project."
"Accha sorry then." He said cutely closing one of his eye.
"Accha fine,then summarize the case"
...flashback
"So working in the same field was helpful?"
"Quite a lot."
"You people lived together.." Anshika said expecting him to add on.
"Anshika hold you're horses, just as friends. We had to live away from Delhi, we both had a joint firm in Mumbai, though we often switched between work and family." He said slowing her pace of thought.
I'm quoting the last line Shravan said for you excited ones. They live together in one house but in SEPARATE rooms, and that too JUST AS FRIENDS.
