Rekh,
I never considered Shravan a gentleman in the first place..Aditya is a gentleman...Shravan was a thorough MCP when he returned from London...I am sure you can remember ample examples of that related to his behaviour with Suman and other women...to the extent Pushkar had to criticise him once on it...

I agree on their journey..in fact, I had mentioned it in one of my replies to U elsewhere...the vast difference the ten years have made in their thinking, when we reflect on them as teenagers...

Also, Suman waited expectantly..she was not sure if he'd accept her as a lover..(as a friend, she never seemed to have doubt until he made it extremely clear the night of the reunion) ...hence the quiet interrogation on the woman in his fb...I'd say she lived in hope, rather than assurance...

Coming to the two challenges...

Sumo had issued two challenges to Ram

1) How will u stop Shrav when he realises my love for him

2) I will not stop myself if he is hurt.

My thoughts:

The second one is a promise from Suman..That will NEVER CHANGE...

The first one is an expectation from Shravan...one she can no longer count on...perhaps the second challenge would play out first and trigger the first one..

New spoiler says Shravan blames Nirmala for taking suman away from him. Good. I thought he would blame Sumon more saying she purposely wanted to marry Nir son to hurt him more. But just a spoiler, might not be true.

My point was that the two challenges if read concurrently will tell us that if when she goes to him when he is hurt, there is a very strong likelihood of him realising that love that she has for him...basically meaning that the diverse qualities of these two would have to merge at some point...to get that convergence in the story..

Him accepting that she loves him and she making the move to go to him. Ofc the reverse can also happen in a love story...i am only saying the former based on their circumstances.

Btw who is a gentleman? If Shravan doesn't fit the bill Aditya also does not. No gentleman in my books coerces a woman to divulge her feelings the way he did. Also, his remarks about how women "aise satayengi" was sexist in my books...

I go by Beagleboy's definition of Shravan , which was quoted in the LU yesterday...and one I liked very much..
"Often, things of greatest beauty have flaws and warts, because perfection is not a tangible word and I don't think it exists. The way I have understood his character, and I'm possible wrong because I've understood it the way I want to, his past informs his present but within that limitation he is still more honorable and respectful than most men on Indian TV. "

I felt there is no better way to describe him. I no longer know what a gentleman stands for in the definition of the word...becos I think many turn out to be closet sexists and not respecting of gender equality...rather at times are condescending in their approach.

Chick an interesting post ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Shravan as a tedha guy does he fit into the narrative of a Shravan Malhotra we fell in love with?...

Well, for one thing we are not yet sure how tedha he will be and what his tedhapan will lead him to...

Shravan the guy we met in the early episodes was an interesting guy ...he was lovable and respectful towards his family members and Nanu but at the same time, he was also guy who could give a tit for a tat...case in point, Chachi, female figures like Urvashi and ofc, Sumo...
He did plan an elaborate revenge against Sumo but, as soon as the revenge was exacted..this same Shravan was also seen pacing in his room disturbed... listening to the barbs thrown at him by his younger brother...
Though he considered Sumo as selfish and self-centered yet when he heard a Verma badmouthing her ..he ran in the middle of the night to warn her...That not having helped he finally let go of his London trip and finally stayed back...
This guy was then even indifferent to the very presence of a Sumo...He had mouthed the words "Kaun Sumo"...He refused to even acknowledge her very identity...forget about giving her a space in his life...
This time around the Sumo whom he loves/d at least is a name..maybe more so, than a name...if his reactions to her marriage announcement is anything to go by...
So, his new avataar may for all purposes fizzle out as soon as he commits his first mistake...
I have written in another post...the core personality hardly ever changes.. though a new exterior can be adorned under suitable circumstances ...but, the core persona will shine out
I guess because the show has got an extension ..making digressions one too often...
And this new Shravan will be a much better digression than the previous ones.
But, if he completely becomes diabolical...then the show itself fizzles out...So, I guess we can reserve our judgement for at least two episodes๐Ÿ˜‰

Rekh,

At bold is what I felt too...
My point is also that, the rushing to him part is what comes naturally to her...and interestingly, the challenge spoke of not how he would love her back, but would understand her for who she is...Interesting that the trust issue is what the show upholds...

Now does it mean that it is her actions that would provoke that reaction in him...I am not saying that this would be the way they'd go about it, but what if her action of rushing to him is what he might actually use to his advantage..

...and yes, there have been plenty of instances where the two rush for each other...though what stays sharp in my memory is the few times he left her alone, because he was afraid of getting hurt...so Suman's part of the deal stays more continuous for me, though she has right now given up on her hope that the first would happen...but since it is in her nature, she'd continue with her caring...and most definitely, one day Shravan is going to sit down and ponder over that...

Gentleman: In my definition, Adi is still more of a gentleman...but if I were to pick between teh two, gladly it'd be Shravan...even though I feel Aditya means no harm...that is purely because I welcome the passion Shravan has for Sumo...and a man like him can only feel that for only one woman. Problem with 'gentlemen' is, they like to be in every girl's good books. ๐Ÿ˜‰

But you might have a point in calling Aditya sexist...but his brand is more subtle than Shravan's...Still I find the latter more amenable to change.

Indrani,

Like I mentioned- Tedha is to be a temporary change that is a coping mechanism...it is purely a reaction to the pain inflicted on him...a decision made in the blindness of a moment...as tedha as he was BY MAKING SURE SUMAN ATTENDED THE REUNION PARTY. I don't know why we don't remember this was there in him even back then!

@ Bold what U have written- I am saying the same thing too.๐Ÿ˜Š

Super post and a perfect summation+ analysis
And yes a way better episode in a long time, atleast the scenes which had Namik in them. This guy is simply outstanding and every scene that he is in just transforms into something else all together. What a flawless performance it was yesterday, every day your awe for him as an actor increases by leaps and bounds. Apart from the last part when he's drinking and fighting the goons ending with the monologue heralding his transformation, he was stupendous in the phera scene. I have never seen an actor whose eyes are as emotive as his face, it's like there is something which relays the same expressions his face has to his eyes. May sound weird and not sure where I am vocalising it correctly

Ofcourse the biggest takeaway from yesterday was our man Shravan who decides enough is enough and he's been take for a ride and granted enough and decides to metamorphose into a new Shravan who he's decided will be a opposite in behaviour and attitude.

The most important question is when he means "sab" does he mean that his outlook towards all except papa will change or will all of this be directed towards sumo only?

And even if he has decided to change to a hardened & selfish & bitter man, will it be possible for him to actually become one and whether he has it in his DNA to be someone like that? All said and done, Can he also harden his heart towards sumo permanently.

Which brings me to the next dilemma - till the time he continues to be the tedha Shravan what is going to be his objective and outlook towards life in general? revenge sumo ofcourse being the prime. Which leads me back to one possibility that of a marriage, where he strategises to break the adiman marriage and marry her himself. Given that nanu would be unwilling to wait much longer he will want to get Suman married off, I somehow think that this would be one reason enough for Shravan to act on being tedha and create circumstances where he engineers their marriage.

To be honest feeling quite apprehensive of what this new Shravan is going to do, behave and react to everybody and everything. Till now he has been such a sensitive, extremely kind, helpful guy with a strong conscious & now to see him diametrically opposite seems difficult to envisage. Next week should be upon us soon.

Another niggle is whether his new found love affair with the bottle going to continue, hope that in addition to all the changes his character will be shown to undergo, this one doesn't get added to the list.
(In a lighter vein) Else in addition to all those other classes on anger management , communication and other therapies, he will first need to become a member of AA considering the quantum he's guzzling away

Conjectures will continue and till next week when where the tracks actually headed becomes clearer, need to brace for the roller coaster that Mr.Shravan Swag Malhotra is going to put us through in his new tedha avatar
