Hey friends,
This is Pearl. It is my first post in the EKDV forum, although I've been flipping through the posts here.

EKDV is coming across as a really good story. I love the dynamics between the characters. But I want to know that is revealing Ramnath's truth to Shravan going to be worth it?

In real life scenarios, when a couple separates, the estranged parent rarely returns. Hard as it might be, people do move on and revisiting the past only leads to opening of wounds. Ramnath is being portrayed as the scrupulous amongst Ram-Nirmala, but Nirmala has her own flaws. Why was she absent for these intervening years? One threat from Ram and she leaves her 16 year old son alone, not even bothering to find about his well-being?? As bad as Ram is, he has been Shravan's rock throughout.

Given how sensitive Shravan is about his dad, the guy had literally lost his sanity the night he thought he lost his dad, will he be able to bear the truth??
Shravan already bears the scars of his past, won't the truth scar him more. He is unable to trust half the mankind (womankind, to be precise) , why snatch his remaining trust, his faith? Nobody can deny the devotion he and Ram has for one-another. He has been the ultimate loser in this battle. Will the truth not break him furthur, making him more vulnerable?

General thinking goes that Shravan needs to know the truth to remove his bitterness about womankind.. Also, Ram needs to pay for manipulating a young Shravan into thinking his mother as a deserter and an adultress. And Nirmala deserves to be reunted with her son. But is it Suman's place to acheive the abovementioned objectives??

According to me, Ramnath is already bearing the fruits of his manipulations, when he sees Shravan's bitternress, there are scenes when he feels that what have I turned my innocent son into, this woman hating cynic?? And about Nimala deserving her son's love, don't you think her efforts are too little, too late. Time and tide wait for none. Or atleast she will have to make renewed efforts time and again to forge a new bond with Shravan without making Sumo as the mediator. And about cleansing Shravan of his bitterness, gradually he will loosen up when his and Sumo's love will grow for each other.

Sumo can be his best friend, his love. I do not wish to offend anybody, but anything else is not her pkace. All this reforging ties between mother-son, revealing truths and generally daily soapish Bahu actions should be refrained IMO .

So back to the question, dont you think that the truth should remain burried, let time and fate decide its predicament. Sumo should atleast not plunge him into the cold truth, the least she can do is soften its blow or rather let it lay down?? What are your thoughts? Wont the truth make Shravan retreat back to the darkest of melancholy abyss, the pits of depression? His dad has been his anchor, and snatching him wirh the snap of finger might just about break him?

even I'm silent reader, n can;t agree more with you. Its case of good parent n bad spouse, ramnath has been a dotting father, but failed as a husband. His mom ( won;t take name.. as it is my mother's name) was a good wife but failed as a parent.
I any separation case, ppl fight for custody.. but his mom just left him ? no attempt in these many years .. so for sharvan his dad is hero n its quite natural .. Knowing the truth can;t justify his mom's action. Even as viewer I'm not convensed, as to why she got scared as just Ram's told he will fight a case.. it seems Lame to me.

Interesting post. Loved reading it. You raised few questions and all are valid. Would like to see how CVs answer them. Is there a way for shravan to know why Nirmala left Ram (not her son) without hurting shravan's feelings?

Wow amazing post. I know I love to read posts of certain writers but its been sometime and I have not seen new writers with a bang on post. Today was the day... o loved ur write and would request you to write more.
To your question... is there not such a thing as being cruel to be kind? And is livinga lie good? What if in future he comes to know the truth then there are 3 perpetrators in his life...

R who lied
N who abandoned
S who pretended to not know the truth

All these people at some level seem to have taken Shravans choices from him. Yes it would hurt and break him... But end of the day he would have the satisfaction of choosing the path his life would take... That I think is why Shravan should know the truth and ppl should trust him enough to let him make his choices Even if he stumbles and falls all the way home.

Hopefully Nirmala would revive her efforts and seek atonement

Looks like the makers to some extent are succumbing to the trp drama. But are still steering the show in their own unique style.

So those of you who are annoyed with the story line pls do not give up so easily. Indian TV needs to cater to the trp aunties to survive eod and this show sure is striking the balance.

Well said poppinss...Actually as they say " a single lie discovered is enough to create a contagious doubt over every truth ever expressed" Not knowing the truth meant the ability to decide was taken away. It would be just as easy for Shravan to turn back at all and ask was he a guinea pig for their experiments with truth? 😆 That he was emotionally fragile is a cause or effect of this experiment...now i don't know that!!😉

@sanfan
Thankyou dear!

The truth I ask is first and foremost in perspective of life. The decisions of parents affect the children. Ramnath and Nirmala have both overlooked Shravan's needs. Ram was a big MCP, his ego and controlling tendencies brought the worst out of him. But I am not overtly concerned about these two individuals.
I am not saying who is correct or wrong, the fact remains that there actions and causes have been done and dusted. Now it is Shravan's life that remains.
Lets dissect Shravan for now. He basically has three people in life: his dad, Sumo and Pushkar. His mom abandoning him has already torn his heart and whatever left portion of his heart belongs to his dad. I understand about the integrity of truth but what good is a truth that would completely crumble a person?

It is not as if he can ever return to share the same bond with his mother... cracks would always resurface. When he learns of his dad's truth, it is not as if he can shift his affections to his mom. It is not a button to be switched on or off in an instant. Dad's betrayal would hit him hard. All the important people in his life will have betrayed him at some point. He would never be able to trust or love freely. Some would say that he will have Sumo to collect his broken pieces. As wonderful as it sounds from a romantic perspective, a person needs other relationships. Shravan would be left empty and what good will truth do?

And when you if you are to solve a stalemate between friends, you specifically use the example of "friends". But when it comes to parents and familial relationships, everybody has a right to have a personal space. There is a thin line between friends, even best of friends tending to the point of lovers. She can tell him someday that I had met your mom once and there exists another aspect to the truth he knows. She should not foist a meeting with Nirmala on him.

And coming from Suman, I expect her to be a little less brash. Considering that she cannot hear a single word against her mother, she should try to understand Shravan more that he would not be dissauaded from his dad's side as he has the same kind of love for him.
It is simply my perspective. I do not wish to offend.

Thanks for the reply dear. I am not saying who is correct or wrong, the fact remains that there actions and causes have been done and dusted. Now it is Shravan's life that remains. So atleast now the parents should act in his best interests. I am disappointed with cvs for painting Ram completely black.

No, I dont think that there is a way to avoid extreme heartbreak on Shravan's part in revelation of truth. Basically the whole timing is off. Has Shravan had a loving wife ( Do I need to mention who)by his side with a kid or two, he would be more stable emotionally to put the truth into perspective.

Lovely topic. And let me tell you, I felt the same while watching the confrontation episode.😃

Why was it important to reveal the truth? Why put Shravan through so much of misery? His dad has been there for him, all things considered. He's been a good parent. His mom might've had some good reasons to call it quits in the marriage- but the truth is that she did abandon him.

All this while Shravan has been comfortable with the illusion that his mom left him and that his dad has always been there for him. At least, all these years he had this illusion to fall back on and lead his life with a semblance of normalcy, at least. His mom was M.I.A. all these years, and that would've only made it easier for him to accept these lies.

If he comes to know that his dad, the parent who stuck by him, used cruel means to separate him from his mom; that the dad who harped on trust and honesty was a liar and manipulator- it'll break him. I can't see how Shravan will survive something like that. He sees the world the way his father wants him to see it. He perceives the world and people through the prism of this essential reality- that his father is the only real connection in his life. If he doesn't have this reality- nothing else is real. I honestly don't see him getting over this betrayal at all. So one can question whether it'd have been better to let him continue living this comfortable illusion.

But then, I went back and looked at some very essential truths. Let's examine Shravan as an individual, for instance. In this regard, one dialogue of Sumo's is particularly relevant- "doosron par kya, usse khud apne aap par bharosa nahi hai". Shravan is hollow from within. He has trust issues not only regarding women, but the motivations and hidden agendas of all the people around him. Except for Pushkar, in whom he occasionally confides (that too because Pushkar pushes him always to try to express his feelings), he's not really expressive regarding his feelings and emotions.

Most importantly, he feels that he's unworthy of love, because if his own mother can abandon him- that has gotta be the biggest sucker punch of all. He might carry on as this hotshot lawyer, but underneath, he's craving for some validation, affection, and love. And most importantly, a woman in whom he can repose his trust and who can give him the companionship and validation that he so desires. I always think that Shravan's monologue before the confession was so poignantly pitiful- "Mujhe bhi pyaar karne ka haq hai". He said it in such a wondrous tone, full of awe- which made me so sad- that this wonderful guy doubts himself and thinks himself unworthy of forming bonds with other people. 😭

So yeah, weighing both sides- I can see why Sumo decided to tell him the truth. The way she did it was too hasty- but it was needed. Shravan needs to wake up and face some hard facts. What adds credence to this is that I just can't get over Ramnath counting all that he did for Shravan- something to the effect of how he'd raised him and educated him- almost as if he'd done him a favour by doing all that. That's not a good, healthy parental relationship.

Of course, in almost every relationship, there is some element of reciprocity involved- even b/w parents and children. But Ramnath has raised his son to be a toy who doesn't appreciate himself or others, feels scared of any semblance of intimacy, and runs away at the first instance of any closeness with another individual ( a 'bhagoda', as Sumo calls him), particularly a woman. If Nirmala had abandoned him and proved to be a bad parent, Ramnath doesn't come off as a good one either, by turning him into a cynic. The most important part of being a parent, according to me, is to ensure that your child grows to be an emotionally stable individual. And Ramnath has failed big time in that area. 🥱

So this rude, wake-up call for Shrav was very much needed. Hopefully, this will help him metamorphose into an emotionally healthy person, confident regarding his self-worth, and able to appreciate life for all its myriad experiences and emotions. And most importantly, to learn how to love, and be loved in return.😊

Thanks a lot dear.
"The truth is a beautiful and terrible thing, and should therefore be treated with caution."
Wow, you sutely gave me a new perspective. Until now, he did not have the right to make the choice but now all will be in his hands. He needs to know the truth, be it devastate him to smithers. Let a new Shravan rise from his ashes !

But I wish the blow had been softened. Sumo should not have foisted this meeting. She could have tried to make him familiar to the truth by conversing in a cool and composed manner.
