I have not equated pragmatism to non-altruism. In fact if you read in between the lines, you will see that I have made out Sam to be extra smart and Radhika foolish. Radhika is foolish enough to think that she only need be selfless and the world can be rosy for the ones she loves. While at the same time I can say that Sam is smart, sharp and intelligent enough to know that she does not wear her heart on her sleeve.

Sam is very practical that way, she always comes first... she knows how to take care of herself. Else she would never have rejected Arjun's proposal the first time around. And she accepted him teh second time around only after he proved to her that he really has a soft side, when he stood Sam up on their date to save Radhika's life.

The whole scene was simply written to make Radhika to a charan sparsh and deify Arjun. It was actually a character butchering of Radz IMHO, simply because she is very intelligent and pragmatic as well.

to know that... I have not made Arjun out to be the quintessential hero. He is anything but that. He is not Harry Potter 9nice and sweet), He is more Jon Snow ( the bas***d boy who will love his ygritte silently, never love anyone else, but yet betray her for a larger cause, and if need be shake hands with the wildlings and bring the wrath of the good world upon himself.)

The bone of contention simply is this: How does Samaira bring darkness or make Arjun feel like a dead corpse when he himself is responsible for the situation he is in? Sam has NO hand in what he feels at this juncture,( it's simply not a case of semantics here because nothing's lost in translation)

Jon Snow committed many a cruel act for the greater good, betraying Ygritte is one such. In Arjun's case the greater good itself is questionable. When have we seen Arjun feel even a tinge of remorse for what he's doing with Sam? If Radhika hadn't come his way as a romantic interest, he would have gone on to destroy the Khannas at the behest of his foster sister. He is not interested in Sam simply because he loves Radhika, not because he has a well aligned moral compass. He is simply not an honorable guy like Jon Snow. Right now Arjun is not even half as interesting as the wannabe dark Gul Khan heroes. So I don't get why Sam gets the short end of the stick in this whole discussion. Just because Arjun feels drawn towards Radhika, should we discount his original vengeful motive? At all?

Arjun has to be the dark hero... Great stories are not made with nice guys that do good, smell flowers, weave wreaths for their sweethearts and smile always. That is why Game of Thrones is such a runaway hit... because the story is full of deceit, violence and hunger for power.

And that is why manmarziyaan will be a hit when and only when this guy Arjun who fluctuates between being God to Radhika and the Devil for Nandini's sake to Sam goes ahead with all the evil weapons he has in his arsenal. That and only that can give us a long long dark love story worth wasting our time on. Else he can be the do-gooder and usurp Neil's role completely from this serial and make it a limited episode one few Samarj fans can drool over.

Not a SamArj fan, so I don't get this constant jibes based on preconceived notions.😉
