I don't know your name TM but by making this post, you've really opened my eyes about how people are in this world. 👏
All the hatred for a positive character like Radhika amazes me a lot and hence you called her an angel and it cannot be digested so easily. I wonder how can one hate a positive character so much and may be this is the reason that good people are hated in real life too. May be they can't be like Radhika who is an angel in Arjun's life and she saved him by putting her life in danger. One really needs to have a conscience to tell them who is good and who is bad. Nobody can be like Radhika in really life and hence the hatred. 😳
I wasn't sure if I should write anything at first but seeing all the back / forth arguments, I am quite annoyed by the negativity on this forum. Honestly, I do not want a rude response with "free world / free speech" bla bla. We all have our favorite characters, couples, and friendships on this show. None of us are professional writers or in drama production business to think that we know more than the CVs. Some shows work, some don't - just as simple as that. All Indian serials in the past have been cringe worthy for me - I mean I'd rather watch paint dry then the never ending saga of a fully decked up daughter in law in a patriarch family. For me Manmarziyan was a change from the norm, and since June I have become hooked on this show!
Anyway coming to point ... my most favorite character on this show is Arjun simply because he has a lot of depth and layers to him. Also it is interesting to watch characters that are a dichotomy. Neil, Radhika and Sam are also likeable characters - but the show wouldn't be the same without Arjun in my opinion! Further, as I mentioned earlier, we have our own reasons to pick a couple - I would never base a couple on just how good they look together because well, there is no drama or story to it. For me, Radhika compliments Arjun's character perfectly, and Sam & Neil have the perfect contrasting personalities (but I am not sure if I want the latter two as a couple).
I remember I first started lurking on this forum to get update on the episodes, as I was not really an avid watcher. I would find it interesting how people would comment (just 1-2 weeks into the show) how the writers are going to butcher Sam's character - and honestly those comments have not changed 4 months into the show. How is it butchering when this has been Sam's character to begin with?! They show that apart from being a gorgeous city gal, she is a nice person at heart and will do a lot for the people she truly cares for; however, she also puts herself before others and is not the best judge of character. She reacts first, thinks later! There is nothing wrong in that, it's just who she is and that is one reason why I like Sam - it humanizes her. With last few episodes, honestly, I don't see the butchering of her character. Think of it from her POV: she is being manipulated to think her friend is trying to steal her to-be husband. Sam is just as much in dark about Arjun & Nandini & Saral as Radhika - so how is she at fault? As for the trust in friendship, let's get some things straight - the Sam-Radhika friendship is new, and not really stood the test of time or trust. In contrast, Neil & Sam friendship has lasted a lifetime as we are led to believe, so that territory comes with blind faith and trust. But I don't think the writers are making Sam bad - they are just creating a conflict between two friends!
On to Radhika, people here have called her all sorts of names - which are borderline taking jabs at the actor herself and that is just plain awful. The character of Radhika is supposed to be that of an average girl from an average family with simple values and innocence, a heart of gold and a real talent at writing. Her real beauty is her inner beauty and not some physical appearance of whatever. And quite honestly, that makes for a great heroine in a story. Think of all the lead novel heroines, with my favorite Pride and Prejudice - the most beautiful was Jane the eldest sister - Elizabeth was supposed to be charming with a strong mind, but nothing extraordinary in looks. For a lead heroine, the goodness in personality ALWAYS overpowers the physical appearance. Anyway, Radhika is not perfect either- her main character flaw is sometimes she is too naive and will basically become a sacrificial goat to please her family. When it comes to her family (or people she considers family), she lacks taking a stand on her own. Even in earlier episodes had it not been for her dada-ji, she would not have been able to take the step of going to Mumbai to follow her dreams. Anyway, I don't see how the writers have swayed in their portrayal of Radhika - she has been true to her character since the show started, same as Sam.
And of course Neil!! He is the nicest person and the most real character on this show. If anything, he is the most relatable character! I can't think of any major flaws for him other than the whole "devdas" type avatar he likes to take up. Oh he is similar to Radhika in the sense that he can be a doormat for people he genuinely loves! That is his flaw because he would always end up being the "nice friend" who gets the short end of stick. Also my only wish is we get to see more of him!
I understand many don't like the show right now or the revenge track - but to me it's interesting because we have four very different characters that are in this mix of hate, revenge and love... and it's a test of friendship, love, right vs wrong for each of these - so I want to enjoy the ride and see what the outcome is. Hopefully the writers don't drag this story and I sincerely hope this doesn't become another Indian serial in which everyone turns against a good character and the lone person is left to wallow in misery until some chain reaction months or years later resolves the issue - that is not something I would want from DYM. If it were to happen, then well, I guess I will have more time to do other things in life 😊.
