Ishaan and Samrat Relation

I am having a hard time buying the relation or there lack of between Samrat and Ishaan. During and after the waiter interrogation scene there was no animosity between the two. Ishaan just let Samrat swoop in and take control of the situation.. Ummm WHY? He should have been like "Samrat don't interferer I am the lawyer here NOT you." and pushed him to the side.
