Chapter 27

"shivani, can you please search at the ladies mesh near your house. You told me na there is a room empty." Antara asked shivani. "sorry yaar antu!! But it got filled last week. Someone had come there." shivani said with a sad face. "it's okk shivani." Antara said with a disappointed face. it was the break time in academy. Shivani and antara were seating at their favorite place and having lunch together sharing their foods. Shivani felt sad looking at antara's gloomy eyes. "hey antu... relax..." she kept her hand on antu's shoulder. "I know other plenty of hostel and meshes. I am sure you will get some places to live." Shivani said in assuring tone. "but it will be so late, I have to find a place to live and that's also within four to five days." Antara said in thoughtful face. "why so hurry antu?! You have your mumma's house to live yaar. And that's also not so far from academy. So what's the problem?" shivani was quite amused. "I am exhausted shivani... you don't know how many problems I am facing in that basti. It's enough yaar... I can't face the violence, the illegal work... and..." antara couldn't finish her words and shivani suddenly blurt out. "RAGHU..." she smirked while saying that. Antara froze while shivani took his name. she continued to look at shivani's face with wide eyes. "why are you looking at me like that?! Do you think I am dumb?! Antu I am watching for these two days that whenever you are coming to academy or leaving from here, raghu or his one of the man follows you everywhere. Specially, raghu... he didn't even try to come close to you or to disturb you anyhow. He just follows you everywhere. How much you try hard to avoid him, he just stick around you. so I just thought..." Shivani didn't say further. Antara dug her face in her chest. "I just don't know what to do shivani... he is keeping eye on me day and night. So that I can't get away from that basti..." antara said. "what?!! You want to go away from basti and he doesn't want you to leave?... my my... hero is on the mission to stop his heroine..." shivani laughed. "enough shivani.." antara said quite loudly making her shut up. "how could you shivani. You are also making joke on me... shivani can't you see?! Each and every day I am almost fighting with myself, with him... and you are saying that..." she couldn't say further as she saw shivani's silent gaze. "listen I am sorry!" antara was guilty, "I don't want to scream on you. you are the only one who understand my condition and me... I don't know shivani what's going on with me.. I just can't handle anymore." Antara looked away to hide her tears. "antu!... it's okk yaar... I don't mind.." she again touch her shoulder to console her. "but can I bother you with another question." She asked. antara looked at her and smiled. "antu I was just wandering you know, where and how did everything started?! Looking at you and raghu I felt like there is something about you two... I just want to know how your path crossed..." she asked causiously. Antara looked at the front with painful eyes. "I met raghu one year ago in Kashmir..." she said slowly. "what?!! That means you know each other before coming to Mumbai?!" shivani was amused a bit. antara told her the story of in short. Shivani became stunned after listening the story. Antara's painfull eyes were shifted towards the sky, "that night changed everything shivani. I came to know about the real face of the man whom I gave a very special place in my heart unknowingly. You don't know shivani how it felt. I felt like my world was crushed at the spot. I didn't understand how close he came to my heart on those few days. I didn't know anything about him, still I felt like he was very much known to me. I enjoyed being with him, I used to love his innocent blabbers. Trust me shivani even I didn't understand when I used to like him. I thought of him whenever I was alone. I didn't know what was happening with me. Each and everything felt so good. I didn't know when he managed to came inside my heart and took his special place. But at that nbight when I came to know that my sweet stranger friend is none other than but the notorious gangster raghunath naik..." she stopped her words as she felt a lump on her throat. Trying hard she controlled her tears she bit her lips. "antara..." shivani let out a startled gasp as she saw her broken face, She didn't know that antara was hiding that much inside her. "I decided to forget everything... I want to erase each and every memory of him from my heart. but I simply couldn't whenever I was alone or in my dreams... his deep eyes flashed in my mind and I felt like he was calling me. You don't know what my condition was at the first couple of month after knowing his truth. No one knows accept my pappa. I didn't told mamma or ishan about him as I didn't wanted to make them worried. Papa also left after some months and I have to take the responsibility of my family along with mamma. I thought, his memory wouldn't bother me when I would be busy in my daily work at radio station. But nope... it was hrder than I thought. After a whole one year I just started to gather up the things and compose myself... but I didn't know that my cruel destiny was planning to play same game with me and after a whole one year in Mumbai I found myself in front of him again..." antara sighed heavily and lowered her face. "yaar antu... what are you yaar?!!" even shivani's voice was chocked after listening to everything. "are you mad girl?! Why are you giving yourself so much suffering?! You know you won't be happy getting away from him and still you don't want to accept that?! You are still running away from him?! why antara?! you like him... and as much as I saw, he was totally gone for you!! then what's the problem?!" shivani asked in quite frustrated voice. "because I can't forget that he is a killer!! a gangster...!! How can I accept a man in my life knowing that he is in the wanted list for killing more than twenty people. It's not about the fact that you like someone... you also have to consider that the man is right for you or not and he is not right for me shivani. He is not!!" she said in firm voice, her eyes became hard all of a sudden. "antara!!" shivani dug her forehead in her both palms. "I don't understand this things yaar. May be you are right. But I am observing a thing which you can't see. Antara you are mentally hurting yourself badly in this whole process... I can't c this yaar." she said in sad voice. "huh!! You don't know I simply curse myself everyday for having those thoughts for a man like him. at least it will be easier to get far rather than facing him every day." Antara said in angry voice. "antara... don't get me wrong. But just you came to know that he is a gangster and you instantly changed your thought for him. I know he is a notorious criminal but you know him. he was with you for those days and still he didn't tried to do a single harm to you. not just at that time... still he didn't tried to do anything wrong with you or forced you anyhow. and still you think that he is wrong person?! I don't think he had any bad intensions regarding to you. His feelings are genuine for you and you two know that." Shivani said wandering. "shivani if he really didn't have any wrong intensions then why didn't he reveal his identity to me?" antara said in hard eyes. "who knows? May be he didn't get courage to tell you everything." shivani said. "I didn't get you." antara asked confusingly. "you know antara what hurts most?! To see hatred in the eyes of that person who is very special in your life. And I think same happened with raghu. he didn't get courage to say you everything cause he thought that you would definitely hate him which he couldn't see. And gues what?! His anticipation was true." Shivani chuckled. "shivani you should do character study rather than music study." Antara giggled. "come on yaar..." shivani was a bit miffed. "it's not that easy shivani. You don't know... and trust me... it's the best option for me now... to leave that basti." Antara said with a sigh. "oye yaar.. don't worry. Tension is not good for health and also your sweet nightingale voice." shvani chuckled. "let's go the class is about to start..." antara said with a smile. they both gathered their things and went inside.

Antara was confused when she saw the huge piles of woods were gathered in the middle of basti. It seemed like something was going to happen. The anticipation was clear in the people's body language. She was relieved that raghu wasn't present at his usual place, on the garage and looking towards her with his piercing eyes fixed on her. His single intent gaze was enough to shake her all over. She felt like with that single gaze she would read her everything, her mind, her heart, the very secret she hiding in it. She literally ran inside the room everyday to save herself from that gaze. When she banged the door on his face she got the glimpse of his irresistible smirk directed to her fearful eyes. She watched the guy name pakiya keeping eyes on her while coming back from academy. May be raghu was busy for some work. Antara sighed. Why was she thinking of him again?! she knocked the door of her house. "hey antara... you are back." saroj said opening the door with a smile. "good afternoon mummy.." antara greeted with a smile and went inside. "okk.. Get freshen up. I have made your favorite allo paratha.." saroj said. "umm sounds yummy.." antara said, "hey mummy what's going on basti?! What's about that pile gathered at the middle?!" antara asked. "arey you don't remember?! It's arranged for holika dahan. Tomorrow, it's holi na.." saroj said. "really?!! I really don't remember.." antara was stunned. "yeah I understand. You are having so much pressure now a days." saroj said. "holi used to be momma's favorite festival. We didn't do much in holi but celebrated in our house..." antara smiled as she remembered her days in Kashmir. "I stil remember, pappa, mamma all of us used to visit in temple at first and start our day. Our relatives came at our house and we enjoyed holi together. Ishan always tried to throw water balloons on me but he always failed." Her eyes gleamed at the beautiful memories of holi in their house in kashmir. "yeah I know, didi always used to tell me about that in phone. Btw, you can also enjoy here na?!" saroj said with a smile. "here?!! Mummy I knew how the holi is celebrated here. It's nothing but another excuse to irritate people on the path throwing bad colors and to drinke alcohols and other things without any limitations." Her face showed utter disgust. "antara!! it's not like that everywhere. Why you have so much negative thoughts about Mumbai city? trust me it'snot that bad you think." Saroj assured. "lets c.." she sighed, "btw, I want to go to temple tomorrow moring. I want to start the day just like Kashmir. With the blessing of god and my pappa.." she smilled widely. "okk as you wish. But we will be going to your mama ji's friends house tomorrow. Would you like to join us?!" saroj asked. "I don't feeling like going out mummy. And also I have some works on my next project. So I will be doing that tomorrow." Antara said.

It's night time and antara was in her room cleaning her guitar when she heard some chaos at outside. She understood that holika dahan might had started. Her mummy ji told her to come there but she denied making excuses. She knew that raghu would definitely be there. She didn't want to face him again. the chaos increased. Antara became curious and came at the front balcony. The holika dahan had started. All people were gathered around the fire and at the front most row f the circle the some people were dancing. Antara saw a man in them who was carrying firelight in his hand. Probably he had lighted up the fire. Raghu!! she identifief him instantly. He was wearing that same military printed black jacket with his blue jeans. She didn't want to say, but that attire really suits him. he saw him dancing with those men in ruffian style in chill out mode. The huge grin in his face looked really cute. Antara shut her eyes tight before it went further. She had to control those thoughts. She had to shut her mind which was filled with him, before it was late. Each and every time she felt like battling against herself while she tried to cut out those feelings. After a deep sigh she opened her eyes with a keen determination for not to look at him anymore. She concentrated on the other people who were all enjoying the start of festive and greeting each other happy holi. Antara felt really good after seeing that. For the first time she saw something new rather than gang war and fights between two parties. So even after huge chaos every day, basti people didn't forget to share happiness in time of festival and celebration. For the first time she felt like naik basti was not only the place of terror, there were normal peoples like her too who had heart in them. She was feeling bad for not joining them. she missed the environment. A small smile came out from her lips as her eyes were fixed on those cheerful people beneath.

Raghu's eyes were madly searching for the single glance of that face inside the crowd which was gathered for holika dahan. He really hoped that she would come at that time. She saw saroj and govind talking to others but where was antara?! he went through the peoples to search for her. after some time when he came out of crowd with gloomy eyes. he faced machmach at the outside of crowd. "bhai dhundke koi fayda naii... woo yeri nahi ayi..." machmach informed. "tere ko kaise pata?!" raghu asked in slow voice. "arey apun apne kaano se suna aunty ji ko fulwati ke maa se kahete huye... woo antara ke barein mein puch rahi thi to aunty ji ne kahan ki ussey ghar mein kuch kaam par gaya iss liye nahi ayegi.." he informed. Raghu let out a big sigh and turned back towards crowd again in a vague hope that if she changed her mind and decided to come. He didn't get a single glimpse of her whole day as he was busy in preparation for holika dahan and holi. He wished if he could get a glimpse of her on the evening but seemed like it was his bad day. "bhai der ho rahi hain... chal..." machmach handed over the firelight in his hand. Raghu moved forward to the piles of logs and dry grasses and light up the pile. The fire spread on the whole pile slowly and went upward glowing with all his pride. "holi hain..." machmach screamed from side. All of them started to enjoy. Raghu, machmach, pakiya, chotu all of them started to dance and chill out circling the fire. Raghu enjoyed and his sadness was reduced a bit. the happiness of festival had started to spread in the air of basti. Raghu was busy in chilling out with machmach when suddenly he felt that. His feet stopped immediately. He stood for a sec with still eyes. what's going on?! Why he was feeling like that she was so close to him? he followed the pace and his eyes moved towards the balcony of kaul house. His eyes fixed on the scene. She was there, wearing a crimson anarkali which was perfectly matched with the glowing lights of yellow flame flashing on her. she herself looked like a flame of fire. But even the flames seemed so gloomy in front of her marvelous wide smile which he saw after ages. Her eyes were fixed on the crowd at the beneath. She seemed enjoying the view so much. The yellow light was glowing in her luminous hazels and her face was looking marvelous!! Raghu felt his heart keeping several beats as he saw her. he felt his breathing was stopped and he was driving inside a trance again. His eyes were catching that intense piercing look again. He remembered about the night in Kashmir when he bumped onto her while escaping from those police forces. He remembered how the light of that lantern was glowing on her beautiful face and hazels. Hallucinated, mesmerized by the pure, divine being in front of his eyes, he stepped forward to come out of crowd in slow pace. His eyes never left her. There were so many chaos and loud sound of laughter around him but he couldn't hear anything. It seemed like antara had become the focal point of his life. leaving all of them behind he moved towards his destination and stood just under the balcony fixing her mesmerized intense gaze to her. a small smile had started to spread on his face.

Antara was busy admiring the view. Might be mummy ji was right. The place was not that much bad at all. She was thinking to go down at once when suddenly she felt that intense gaze on her. she instantly felt his presence. The smile vanished from her face instantly. She gulped and moved her gaze. She found raghu standing just under her balcony and giving her his usual intense gaze making her breath hitch. The merriness was gone from her face all of a sudden. A sudden pain appeared darkening the glow of her hazels. He didn't shift his gaze for a single moment from her face. a small smile was playing on his lips and his black eyes seemed pleasant and warm. She looked at him with confused gaze for a while and then went inside with a slow pace. That usual irresistible smirk spread on raghu's lips. his eyes were still fixed towards the balcony.

Antara came inside and sat on the bed unconsciously. She shouldn't go outside. It was getting hard and painful each and every day. Every time she tried hard to avoid the steps which would lead her to him but at last she found herself taking the step and going towards him. "just some more days antara... just some days... after that everything would be fine. You don't have to face anymore. " she told slowly to herself in a way to console her, "god couldn't be so cruel to anyone. He had surely planned something better for you. he won't do anything wrong with you! you know it na?!" she again said in slow voice and closed her eyes taking a huge deep breath. suddenly her mobile beeped in massage tune. She took the mobile and the screen flashed a massage from an unknown number. hey who is it?!!" antara thought curiously and opened the massage. As she read the whole massage her eyes widened and was almost about to pop out. The content of the massage was this...

" eee misscall!! Niche ane ki takleef to madam ne ki naii to mere ko hi apna balance katwa ke massage karna para... niche atti to aamne saamne baat ho jata par janee dee... dil ki baat moo pe ho yaa phone ki connection se... baat to ek hi hain na... woo kya hain na... apun teere ko wooo... BARA WALA AUR HAPPY WALA HAPPY HOLI... Haan yahich kahena tha... pata hain tu too mere ko naii kahene wali abhi... par fikar not... Agle saal tu bhi apun ko kahegi aur woo bhi zoro se ek jhappi maar ke... Dekh lena...

Aur haan kaal aise andar bandh pari mat rahena... bahar aa ke full too maza lene ka... dekhna teri jo fifty watt wali smile aaj nikli hain na... kaal woo dhasso hundred watt wali niklegi... itni jhakass hasti hain to khulke hasa kar na... duniya se chupati kyun firti hain?

Antara literally felt like he heard the last sentence from his deep voice. he quickly shut her nouth with her palm. Her eyes were wide in amusement. The accent of the massage clearly said her who was the massager. But how on earth raghu got her phone number?!!! Was there something not possible for him? antara stroke her forehead and looked at the massage again. she felt her heartbeat had again became uneven while reading those lines again.
