When in severe shock, which is normal part of grief, people may do things they don't remember later. They may also find it difficult to communicate thoughts, ideas or feelings clearly.
Grief has a predictable pattern. Shock and denial occur in the first stage. This is an attempt to insult oneself from a too painful reality. Feeling isolated, depressed, and totally alone, may occur in the next stage. A person may be surrounded by people, yet feel alone and lost. Then, anger and rage may set in. The anger may be extreme and irrational, and may appear inappropriate or embarrassing to others. The last two stages of grief include arguing and bargaining, either with oneself, or even with God, as one tries to make some sense of his or her situation. The final stage involves acceptance of the new situation, and getting on with life.
Grief is a highly personal experience. The stages may overlap or occur simultaneously. Working through grief once, may not be enough. You may go through it several times. Subsequent events such as anniversaries, or the experience of others close to you, may trigger another bout to work through.
